Twenty-six patients with a limited-disease presentation of small-cell bronchogenic carcinoma (SCBC) had surgery after achieving a partial remission with three cycles of chemotherapy. Persistent SCBC was found in 15 patients (58%), non-small-cell bronchogenic carcinoma (NSCBC) in six patients (23%), and no malignancy in five patients (19%). Twelve patients have died since surgery.
