Background: The duration of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is a negative predictor of outcomes in acute ischemic stroke (AIS), yet the precise mechanisms are unclear. We investigated whether the placement of large-bore catheters intracranially reduces blood flow to the ischemic penumbra and diminishes the efficacy of MT.
Methods: We investigated the impact of different catheter sizes on flow through the intracranial circulation using an in vitro model.

Background: A higher number of recanalization attempts reduces the efficacy of endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke secondary to large vessel occlusion (LVO). We assessed the impact of switching EVT techniques after a failed first pass on procedural and clinical outcomes.
Methods: This multicenter international study, conducted between January 2013 and December 2022, included patients undergoing EVT for anterior circulation LVO (internal carotid artery or M1 segments) with failed first pass recanalization.

Background And Objectives: Microsurgical aneurysm repair by clipping continues to be highly important despite increasing endovascular treatment options, especially because of inferior occlusion rates. This study aimed to present current global microsurgical treatment practices and to identify risk factors for complications and neurological deterioration after clipping of unruptured anterior circulation aneurysms.
Methods: Fifteen centers from 4 continents participated in this retrospective cohort study.

Background: The Pipeline Embolization Device (PED) has been the only flow-diverting device (FDD) approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the U.S. market for nearly a decade, with more FDD choices in the United States following recent FDA approval of the Flow Redirection Endoluminal Device and Surpass.

Objective: Stent retriever (SR) and direct aspiration (DA) mechanical thrombectomy (MT) improve clinical outcomes for stroke secondary to large vessel occlusion. The purpose is to perform an updated meta-analysis comparing the two techniques.
Methods: PubMed database was searched for studies between January 1, 2015, and July 5th, 2021 with mechanical thrombectomy to treat acute ischemic stroke.

Previous studies have shown that infiltration of capsaicin into the surgical site can prevent incision-induced spontaneous pain like behaviors and heat hyperalgesia. In the present study, we aimed to monitor primary sensory neuron Ca activity in the intact dorsal root ganglia (DRG) using Pirt-GCaMP3 male and female mice pretreated with capsaicin or vehicle before the plantar incision. Intraplantar injection of capsaicin (0.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is an aggressive tumor of the brain, with an average post-diagnosis survival of 15 months. GBM stem cells (GBMSC) resist the standard-of-care therapy, temozolomide, and are considered a major contributor to tumor resistance. Mammalian target of rapamycin Complex 1 (mTORC1) regulates cell proliferation and has been shown by others to have reduced activity in GBMSC.

Telemedicine holds vast amounts of potential in changing the way outpatient plastic and reconstructive surgery is practiced. Before the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, video conferencing was used by a small fraction of medical specialties. However, since the start of the pandemic, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the largest private health insurance companies have relaxed regulations to allow the majority of specialties to use video conferencing in lieu of in-person visits.

Background: One limitation of anti-VEGF therapy is the need for monthly retreatment to maintain efficacy. The purpose of this study was to determine the duration of effect in eyes with macular edema (ME) secondary to branch or central retinal vein occlusion (BRVO or CRVO) treated with anti-VEGF therapy plus sustained-release dexamethasone (DEX implant; Ozurdex).
Materials And Methods: This open-label, interventional case series included 62 eyes with ME due to RVO, central foveal thickness (CFT) >300 μm, and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) of 20/40 or worse.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the prevalence of spring ligament pathology and other radiographic changes related to flatfoot deformity in the presence of different degrees of tibialis posterior tendon pathology. A total of 72 patients (24 with tibialis posterior tendon abnormality and 48 sex- and age-matched controls) were evaluated for tibialis posterior tendon pathology, spring ligament pathology, and plain pedal radiographic angles, including cuboid abduction, talar declination, calcaneal inclination, and Meary's angles. The patients with tibialis posterior tendon pathology were subdivided into either minor (Type I) or severe (Type II/III), according to the Conti classification of tibialis posterior tendon pathology on MRI.

Charcot arthropathy, also known as neuroarthropathy, is most commonly associated with diabetes mellitus, despite a variety of other etiologies. A limited number of case reports have been published on neuroarthropathies caused by other forms of neuropathy, including alcoholic peripheral neuropathy. We report 4 cases of neuroarthropathy associated with chronic alcoholism in nondiabetic individuals.
