Approximately half of all births globally occur in the Asia Pacific Region. Concerted efforts to support local activities aimed at developing national newborn screening (NBS) have been ongoing for almost 30 years, first by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and then through volunteer efforts. Sustainable newborn bloodspot screening (NBS) continues to be initiated and develop in many of the countries with developing economies in the region.

When squamous cell carcinoma necessitates mandibular resection, the resultant defect can be complex. An osteocutaneous fibula free flap is an effective reconstruction option, typically supplied by the peroneal artery for both the fibula and skin flap. In this case report, an anatomical variation was found: the skin paddle was supplied by soleus musculocutaneous perforators of the posterior tibial artery, whereas the fibula was supplied by the peroneal artery.

Background Context: Clinical outcomes are directly related to patient selection and treatment indications for improved quality of life. With emphasis on quality and value, it is essential that treatment recommendations are optimized.
Purpose: The purpose of the North American Spine Society (NASS) Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) is to determine the appropriate (ie, reasonable) multidisciplinary treatment recommendations for patients with metastatic neoplastic vertebral fractures across a spectrum of more common clinical scenarios.

Background: Restorative proctocolectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) is a common surgical procedure for ulcerative colitis and familial adenomatous polyposis. IPAA strictures are a known complication, often requiring surgical intervention. Endoscopic interventions offer a less invasive alternative, but their safety and efficacy remain uncertain.

Background: Debridement is considered the first step in treatment of chronic wounds, however, current enzymatic and autolytic debridement agents are slow or ineffective. Previous studies have shown positive initial results with EscharEx® (EX-02 formulation), a Bromelain-based enzymatic debridement agent in development for chronic wounds. The main objective of this study was to assess its efficacy in debriding venous leg ulcers (VLU), compared to gel vehicle (GV) as a placebo control and to non-surgical standard of care (NSSOC).

Purpose: Wheelchairs and associated seating and positioning systems require maintenance and repair services to sustain essential functions for wheelchair users. This study aims to amplify wheelchair users' opinions and experiences related to their perceived access to crucial wheelchair maintenance and repair services.
Methods: We conducted semi-structured interviews with four full-time wheelchair users using five semi-structured interview questions.

Introduction: Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other tauopathies are characterized by intracellular aggregates of microtubule-associated protein tau that are actively released and promote proteopathic spread. Microglia engulf pathological proteins, but how they endocytose tau is unknown.
Methods: We measured endocytosis of different tau species by microglia after pharmacological modulation of macropinocytosis or clathrin-mediated endocytosis (CME) or antagonism/genetic depletion of known tau receptors heparan-sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) and low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1 (LRP1).

Aims/hypothesis: Insulin resistance and compensatory hyperinsulinaemia are core features leading to beta cell failure in youth-onset type 2 diabetes. Insulin clearance (IC) is also a key regulator of insulin concentrations, but few data exist on IC in youth-onset type 2 diabetes. In a secondary analysis of our Treatment Options for Type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth (TODAY) randomised clinical trial, we investigated potential sex-, race-, ethnicity- and treatment-related differences in IC in youth-onset type 2 diabetes and aimed to identify metabolic phenotypes associated with IC at baseline and in response to metformin, metformin plus a lifestyle intervention, and metformin plus rosiglitazone.

Structural covariance in brain anatomy is thought to reflect inter-regional sharing of developmental influences - although this hypothesis has proved hard to causally test. Here, we use neuroimaging in humans and mice to study sex-differences in anatomical covariance - asking if regions that have developed shared sex differences in volume across species also show shared sex difference in volume covariance. This study design illuminates both the biology of sex-differences and theoretical models for anatomical covariance - benefitting from tests of inter-species convergence.

Ultrasound guidance for bedside procedures improves rates of success while reducing complications. It is the standard of care for most bedside procedures and has ever-increasing utility for peri-procedural assessment. Herein, we provide a concise description with associated images and videos detailing the proper technique for ultrasound image acquisition and interpretation, along with common pitfalls to be avoided.

is an obligate intracellular Gram-negative bacterium that causes acute and chronic Q fever in humans. Acute Q fever is usually a flu-like, self-limiting or treatable illness, but some infections can turn into a severe and sometimes fatal chronic disease. There is currently no FDA-approved vaccine available for the prevention of human Q fever in the US, development of a safe and effective vaccine for the prevention of human Q fever remains an important goal for public health.

A literature search on the subject of botulinum toxin treatment in psoriasis found 15 relevant articles, 11 on human subjects and 4 on animal studies. Of the human data, eight were clinical trials and three were single case reports. Seven out of eight clinical trials, all open-label, reported improvement in psoriasis following intradermal or subcutaneous botulinum toxin injections.

Background: Brain ageing is highly heterogeneous, as it is driven by a variety of normal and neuropathological processes. These processes may differentially affect structural and functional brain ageing across individuals, with more pronounced ageing (older brain age) during midlife being indicative of later development of dementia. Here, we examined whether brain-ageing heterogeneity in unimpaired older adults related to neurodegeneration, different cognitive trajectories, genetic and amyloid-beta (Aβ) profiles, and to predicted progression to Alzheimer's disease (AD).
