Background: The immune response to infections may become dysregulated and promote myocardial damage contributing to heart failure (HF). We examined the relationship between infection-related hospitalization (IRH) and HF, HF with preserved ejection fraction, and HF with reduced ejection fraction.
Methods And Results: We studied 14 468 adults aged 45 to 64 years in the ARIC (Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities) Study who were HF free at visit 1 (1987-1989).

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains a leading cause of death for women in the United States, with veterans being at potentially higher risk than their nonveteran counterparts due to accelerated aging and distinct biopsychosocial mechanisms. We examined pathways between selected indicators of socioeconomic status (SES) such as education, occupation, household income, and neighborhood SES and major CVD events through lifestyle and health characteristics among veteran and nonveteran postmenopausal women.
Methods And Results: A total of 121 286 study-eligible WHI (Women's Health Initiative) participants (3091 veterans and 118 195 nonveterans) were prospectively followed for an average of 17 years, during which 16 108 major CVD events were documented.

Several studies have been performed on the immunomodulatory effects of yeast β-(1,3) glucan, but there is no proper evaluation of the thermal and immunomodulating properties of zymosan (ZM). Thermogravimetry analysis indicated a 54% weight loss of ZM at 270 °C. Circular dichroism showed absorption peaks in the region of 250 to 400 nm, suggesting a helical coil β-sheet configuration.

Background: Brain arterial diameters (BADs) are novel imaging biomarkers of cerebrovascular disease, cognitive decline, and dementia. Traditional vascular risk factors have been associated with BADs, but whether there may be genetic determinants of BADs is unknown.
Methods And Results: The authors studied 4150 participants from 6 geographically diverse population-based cohorts (40% European, 14% African, 22% Hispanic, 24% Asian ancestries).

Background: Approximately 30% of the 700 000 Gulf War veterans report a chronic symptom-based illness of varying severity referred to as Gulf War illness (GWI). Toxic deployment-related exposures have been implicated in the cause of GWI, some of which contribute to metabolic dysregulation and lipid abnormalities. As this cohort ages, the relationship between GWI and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is a growing concern.

Background Cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4 and 6 inhibitors have significantly improved survival in patients with hormone receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer. There are few data regarding the epidemiology of cardiovascular adverse events (CVAEs) with these therapies. Methods and Results Using the OneFlorida Data Trust, adult patients without prior cardiovascular disease who received at least 1 CDK4/6 inhibitor were included in the analysis.

Current approaches to clinical SP are largely based on traditional machine learning and require hand-building a lexicon. The recent advancements in neural SP show a promise for building a robust and flexible semantic parser without much human effort.

Background Existing studies on cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) often focus on individual-level behavioral risk factors, but research examining social determinants is limited. This study applies a novel machine learning approach to identify the key predictors of county-level care costs and prevalence of CVDs (including atrial fibrillation, acute myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, and ischemic heart disease). Methods and Results We applied the extreme gradient boosting machine learning approach to a total of 3137 counties.

Objectives: To investigate the utility of a novel serum miRNA biomarker panel to distinguish teratoma from nonmalignant necrotic/fibrotic tissues or nonviable tumours in patients with NSGCT undergoing post-chemotherapy consolidation surgery.
Patients And Methods: We prospectively collected pre-surgical serum samples from 22 consecutive testicular NSGCT patients with residual NSGCT after chemotherapy undergoing post-chemotherapy consolidation surgery. We measured serum miRNA expression of four microRNAs (miRNA-375, miRNA-200a-3p, miRNA-200a-5p and miRNA-200b-3p) and compared with pathologic findings at time of surgery.

Background: The epithelial Na channel (ENaC) is intrinsically linked to fluid volume homeostasis and blood pressure. Specific rare mutations in , , and , genes encoding the α, β, and γ subunits of ENaC, respectively, are associated with extreme blood pressure phenotypes. No associations between blood pressure and , which encodes the δ subunit of ENaC, have been reported.

Background Recent genetic discoveries in stroke have unleashed the potential of using genetic information for risk prediction and health interventions aimed at disease prevention. We sought to estimate the lifetime risk of stroke (LTRS) by levels of genetic risk and to investigate whether optimal cardiovascular health can offset the negative impact of high genetic risk on lifetime risk of stroke. Methods and Results Study participants were 11 568 middle-aged adults (56% women, 23% Black adults), who were free of stroke at baseline and were followed up for a median of 28 years.

Background: The availability of whole-genome sequencing data in large studies has enabled the assessment of coding and noncoding variants across the allele frequency spectrum for their associations with blood pressure.
Methods: We conducted a multiancestry whole-genome sequencing analysis of blood pressure among 51 456 Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine and Centers for Common Disease Genomics program participants (stage-1). Stage-2 analyses leveraged array data from UK Biobank (N=383 145), Million Veteran Program (N=318 891), and Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (N=10 643) participants, along with whole-exome sequencing data from UK Biobank (N=199 631) participants.

Objectives: Multimodal kidney-preserving (MKP) strategies may be an option for patients with localised or locally advanced high-risk upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) who have a relative contraindication for nephroureterectomy (NU).
Materials And Methods: We studied patients with UTUC who were managed with MKP strategies, consisting of systemic anticancer therapy, with or without local/topical strategies after endoscopic control of intraluminal tumours. Primary end points were overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS).
Background Pharmacological inhibition of angiogenesis via the vascular endothelial growth factor pathway is an important therapeutic target that prevents tumor growth and the formation of metastases. Although vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitor (VPI) is well understood as a well-defined safety profile, few real-world studies are comparing the incidence, clinical features, and prognosis of the aneurysm and artery dissection. Methods and Results To evaluate and compare the links between different VPIs and aneurysm and artery dissection, we identified 634 reports with VPIs in the US Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System database ranging between January 2004 to March 2020.

This paper describes an initial dataset and automatic natural language processing (NLP) method for extracting concepts related to precision oncology from biomedical research articles. We extract five concept types: Cancer, Mutation, Population, Treatment, Outcome. A corpus of 250 biomedical abstracts were annotated with these concepts following standard double-annotation procedures.

The task ofCR requires the extraction of relevant documents from the electronic health records (EHRs) on the basis of a given query. Given the recent advancements in the field of document retrieval, we map the task of CR to a document retrieval task and apply various deep neural models implemented for the general domain tasks.

Background Excess visceral adipose tissue (VAT) is a primary driver for the cardiometabolic complications of obesity; VAT-associated cardiovascular disease risk varies by race, but most studies have been done on Non-Hispanics. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and metabolic correlates of VAT, its association with subclinical atherosclerosis, and the factors affecting this association in Mexican Americans. Methods and Results Participants (n=527) were drawn from the Cameron County Hispanic Cohort (CCHC), on whom a carotid ultrasound to assess carotid intima media thickness and a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scan to assess for VAT were obtained.
