Solid tumors are abnormal mass of tissue, which affects the organs based on its malignancy and leads to the dysfunction of the affected organs. The major problem associated with treatment of solid tumors is delivering anticancer therapeutics to the deepest layers/core of the solid tumor. Deposition of excessive extracellular matrix (ECM) hinders the therapeutics to travel towards the core of the tumor.

Magnetic particle imaging (MPI) is an emerging imaging modality that provides direct and quantitative mapping of iron oxide tracers. To achieve high sensitivity and good spatial resolution images, a magnetic nanoparticle with a higher contrast intensity needs to be developed. Currently, a majority of MPIs being developed for potential clinical application are composed of iron oxide nanoparticles with a spherical shape.

Prior research in cyber deception has investigated the effectiveness of the timing of deception on human decisions using simulation tools. However, there exists a gap in the literature on how the availability of subnets and port-hardening influence human decisions to attack a system. We tested the influence of subnets and port-hardening on human attack decisions in a simulated environment using the HackIT tool.

Background: A cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) is used to determine the ventilatory thresholds and to directly assess cardiorespiratory capacity. However, its reproducibility should be tested in people with stroke as sequelae imposed by the stroke may induce important variations among and within each subject, affecting the reproducibility of the physiological responses to CPET.
Purpose: This cross-sectional repeated measures study design aims to determine the reproducibility of anaerobic threshold (AT), respiratory compensation point (RCP), and maximal cardiorespiratory capacity assessed during a CPET in people with stroke.

Mutations in the HCFC1 transcriptional co-factor protein are the cause of cblX syndrome and X-linked intellectual disability (XLID). cblX is the more severe disorder associated with intractable epilepsy, abnormal cobalamin metabolism, facial dysmorphia, cortical gyral malformations, and intellectual disability. In vitro, murine Hcfc1 regulates neural precursor (NPCs) proliferation and number, which has been validated in zebrafish.

Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a non-invasive technique that measures tissue perfusion using red blood cells oxygen saturation and venous occlusion plethysmography (VOP) is the gold standard to assess microvascular blood flow and function. The purpose of this study was to determine if NIRS can surrogate the microvascular blood flow assessment after an ischemic challenge obtained via VOP. Twenty apparently healthy subjects (10 males and 10 females), aged 18 to 35 years, were recruited for this single session study.

Fibrosis has been shown to develop in individuals with underlying health conditions, especially chronic inflammatory diseases. Fibrosis is often diagnosed in various organs, including the liver, lungs, kidneys, heart, and skin, and has been described as excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix that can affect specific organs in the body or systemically throughout the body. Fibrosis as a chronic condition can result in organ failure and result in death of the individual.

Among the various dosage forms, oral medicine has extensive benefits including ease of administration and patients' compliance, over injectable, suppositories, ocular and nasal. Despite of extensive demand and emerging advantages, over 50% of therapeutic molecules are not available in oral form due to their physicochemical properties. More importantly, most of the biologics, proteins, peptide, and large molecular drugs are mostly available in injectable form.

Arctic terrestrial herbivores influence tundra carbon and nutrient dynamics through their consumption of resources, waste production, and habitat-modifying behaviors. The strength of these effects is likely to change spatially and temporally as climate change drives shifts in herbivore abundance, distribution, and activity timing. Here, we review how herbivores influence tundra carbon and nutrient dynamics through their consumptive and nonconsumptive effects.

Few studies explore in-depth accounts of women's and men's experiences with, and transitions between, obstetrician/gynaecologists (OB/GYNs) and reproductive endocrinologists during infertility diagnostic and treatment processes. This study examined this subject matter with data from qualitative, in-depth, semi-structured interviews. Between April 2007 and March 2008, the first author interviewed 20 women and eight men from a large midwestern metropolitan area in the USA who had used, or were in the process of using, any fertility treatment in the 5 years preceding the interview.

Research has shown that individuals from diverse backgrounds and women are underrepresented in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. A lack of identifiable role models/mentorship and poor mentoring experiences are a few cited factors that continue to limit increased diversity. As an underrepresented individual and a faculty member at a minority-serving institution, I strive to provide my students with a strong example, one that they can identify with.

Filipino Americans show higher thyroid cancer recurrence rates compared to European Americans. Although they are likely to die of this malignancy, the molecular mechanism has not yet been determined. Recent studies demonstrated that small non-coding RNAs could be utilized to assess thyroid cancer prognosis in tumor models.

Importance: Despite the contentious immigration environment and disproportionate rates of COVID-19 infection among Latinx individuals in the US, immigrants' concerns about engaging in COVID-19-related testing, treatment, and contact tracing have been largely unexplored.
Objective: To examine the proportions of Latinx immigrants who endorse statements about the potential negative immigration ramifications of seeking and using COVID-19-related testing and treatment services and engaging in contact tracing.
Design, Setting, And Participants: In this cross-sectional survey study, 25 COVID-19-related items were incorporated into the online Spanish-language survey of an ongoing study.

Ecological studies require quality data to describe the nature of ecological processes and to advance understanding of ecosystem change. Increasing access to big data has magnified both the burden and the complexity of ensuring quality data. The costs of errors in ecology include low use of data, increased time spent cleaning data, and poor reproducibility that can result in a misunderstanding of ecosystem processes and dynamics, all of which can erode the efficacy of and trust in ecological research.

COVID-19 vaccines were approved for use in the general American public by late 2020 and early 2021. Media reports started highlighting COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy in racial and ethnic minorities. However, little is known about the extent of COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy in racial and ethnic minorities and whether there are unique sociodemographic and cognitive correlates associated with vaccine hesitancy.

Background: Heparan sulfate proteoglycan 2 (HSPG2) encodes for perlecan, a large proteoglycan that plays an important role in cartilage formation, cell adhesion, and basement membrane stability. Mutations in HSPG2 have been associated with Schwartz-Jampel Syndrome (SJS) and Dyssegmental Dysplasia Silverman-Handmaker Type (DDSH), two disorders characterized by skeletal abnormalities. These data indicate a function for HSPG2 in cartilage development/maintenance.

Background: Processed nerve allograft (PNA) is an alternative to autograft for the reconstruction of peripheral nerves. We hypothesize that peripheral nerve repair with PNA in a military population will have a low rate of meaningful recovery (M ≥ 3) because of the frequency of blasting mechanisms and large zones of injury.
Methods: A retrospective review of the military Registry of Avance Nerve Graft Evaluating Utilization and Outcomes for the Reconstruction of Peripheral Nerve Discontinuities database was conducted at the Walter Reed Peripheral Nerve Consortium.
