Children and young adults with sickle cell disease (SCD) develop kidney disease early in childhood with some patients progressing to require dialysis and kidney transplantation. The prevalence and outcomes of children with end stage kidney disease (ESKD) due to SCD is not well described. This study aimed to assess the burden and outcomes of ESKD in children and young adults with SCD in a large national database.

Hospitals, payors, and patients increasingly expect us to report our outcomes in more detail and to justify our treatment decisions and costs. Although there are many stakeholders in surgical outcomes, physicians must take the lead role in defining how outcomes are assessed. Skull base lesions interact with surrounding anatomy to produce a complex spectrum of presentations and surgical challenges, requiring a wide variety of surgical approaches.

The 2022 WHO classification reinforces the 2016 classification and subclassifies precursor lesions and tumours into human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated and HPV-independent types. HPV-associated penile intraepithelial neoplasia (PeIN) is a precursor lesion of invasive HPV- associated SCC, whereas differentiated PeIN is a precursor lesion of HPV-independent SCC.

Background: Tumor boards are part of standard care of patients with complex cancers, but appropriate multidisciplinary expertise and infrastructure are often not available in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) for pediatric cancers, such as neuroblastoma. Our goal was to review results of a Global Neuroblastoma Network (GNN) tumor board accessible to LMIC.
Methods: De-identified clinical cases presented via internet conference during a weekly GNN virtual tumor board from 2010 through 2020 were evaluated in a standardized format, including diagnostic imaging, pathology, therapy information, resource limitations, and questions for discussion.

Because of the everincreasing costs and the complexity of institutional medical reimbursement policies, the necessity for extensive laboratory work-up of potentially infected patients has come into question. We hypothesized that intensivists are able to differentiate between infected and non-infected patients clinically, without the need to pan-culture, and are able to identify the location of the infection clinically in order to administer timely and appropriate treatment. Data collected prospectively on critically ill patients suspected of having an infection in the surgical intensive care unit (SICU) was obtained over a six-month period in a single tertiary academic medical center.
