Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a chronic neurobehavioral condition characterized by a cycle of tolerance development, increased consumption, and reinstated craving and seeking behaviors during withdrawal. Understanding the intricate mechanisms of AUD necessitates reliable animal models reflecting its key features. (), with its conserved nervous system and genetic tractability, has emerged as a valuable model organism to study AUD.

Background: Comparative studies of interim veneer restorations crafted using subtractive computer-aided manufacturing (s-CAM) milling technology and traditional direct hand-made approaches are needed.
Purpose: This comparative in vitro study evaluated the fracture resistance of two types of provisional veneer restorations for maxillary central incisors: milled (s-CAM) and traditional direct hand-made bis-acryl veneers.
Materials And Methods: Fifty maxillary right central incisor veneers (25 specimens per group) were fabricated and divided according to the fabrication method: (1) s-CAM milled (Structure CAD, VOCO Dental); and (2) hand-made (Protemp Plus, 3M).

This epidemiological study examined ocular and orbital lymphomas in the United States from 1995 to 2018, using data from the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries database of 87,543 patients with ocular and adnexal malignancies. We identified 17,878 patients (20.4%) with ocular and orbital lymphomas, with an age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) of 2.

Background: Clostridium Difficile Infection (CDI) is a significant cause of mortality. This study aims to identify predictors of CDI in general surgery patients.
Methods: Patients who underwent general surgery operations in the 2019 National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database were identified with demographic, intervention, and outcome data abstracted.

Objective: We examined whether diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a serious complication of type 1 diabetes (T1D) was more prevalent among Non-Hispanic (NH) Black and Hispanic patients with T1D and laboratory-confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) compared with NH Whites.
Method: This is a cross-sectional study of patients with T1D and laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 from 52 clinical sites in the United States, data were collected from April to August 2020. We examined the distribution of patient factors and DKA events across NH White, NH Black, and Hispanic race/ethnicity groups.
Introduction: Noncompaction cardiomyopathy is a rare phenotype of cardiomyopathy associated with severe cardiac arrhythmia and thromboembolic complications.
Case Presentation: A 55-year-old woman presented with frank pulmonary edema and received a diagnosis of noncompaction cardiomyopathy.
Discussion: Left ventricular noncompaction cardiomyopathy is increasingly being diagnosed because of advances in imaging modalities.

BACKGROUND ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is usually caused by rupture of unstable plaque with thrombus formation and abrupt cessation of blood flow through a single coronary artery that is deemed the culprit. The simultaneous thrombotic occlusions of multiple coronary arteries in the setting of STEMI is a rare occurrence with implications for patient management and outcome not fully addressed in the current STEMI guidelines, although more recent studies suggest a benefit of complete revascularization compared to culprit vessel-only treatment in the setting of STEMI. CASE REPORT A 74-year-old female presented with STEMI.

Study Design: A retrospective analysis.
Objectives: The objective of this study is to determine whether dipstick protein analysis (DSP) or random urine protein:creatinine ratios (UPC) are accurate in predicting clinical proteinuria in the chronic spinal cord injury (SCI) population.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed in 219 veterans with SCI, comparing DSP and 24-h urine protein excretion.

Objective: To determine whether following American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and American College of Medical Genetics recommendations would have detected carriers in pedigrees of patients diagnosed with fragile X.
Study Design: Using a database of patients referred to the UT genetics clinic for evaluation of fragile X, pedigrees of cases of fragile X syndrome were analyzed.
Results: Eight of 17 cases identified had a family history of unexplained mental retardation (MR) or fragile X MR and would have been diagnosed using current guidelines.

Urogenital atrophy, although a frequently occurring symptom of aging for all women, is a condition often not thought of as a symptom of distress for older women or a sign of pelvic pathology requiring treatment by clinicians. Rather, many clinicians feel it is an expected consequence of aging, and older women themselves assimilate their lifestyle to the uncomfortable symptoms of dryness, irritation, itching and malodorous discharge. At times, when symptoms become intolerable with coitus, women will abandon sexual intercourse with their partners due to dyspareunia and not seek intervention to reverse the condition owing to embarrassment in raising this sensitive topic.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare success rates of 643 patients who had ectopic pregnancy from the same database who were treated with multidose or single-dose methotrexate protocols.
Study Design: We compared demographics, gestational age, serum human chorionic gonadotropin, progesterone levels, ectopic sac size and volume, overall ectopic mass size and volume, ectopic cardiac activity, history of ectopic pregnancy, number of treatment days, methotrexate doses, and outcome in consecutive patients with ectopic pregnancy who were treated with methotrexate.
Results: Success rates were comparable between patients with multidose and single-dose therapy (95% vs 90%, respectively) as were human chorionic gonadotropin and progesterone levels, history of ectopic pregnancy (21.

Background: Numerous combination and single-agent antimicrobial regimens are available for the treatment of intra-abdominal infections. Selection of empiric agents must be directed at providing reliable activity against endotoxin-generating Escherichia coli, other gram-negative facultative bacteria, and anaerobes such as Bacteroides fragilis. Safety profiles, pharmacokinetic profiles, and cost-effectiveness must also be considered.

Thrombin is a potent mitogen for vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC). To understand its mitogenic signaling events, we have studied the role of calcium-independent phospholipase A2 (iPLA2). Without affecting its levels, thrombin increased iPLA2 activity in a time-dependent manner in VSMC.

Vasodilator effects of glutamate in the cerebral circulation are, in part, mediated by carbon monoxide (CO), which is formed from heme via the heme oxygenase (HO) pathway. The hypothesis addressed was that glutamate receptors (GluRs) in cerebral microvascular endothelium are functionally linked to HO. Using a radioligand binding and immunoblotting, GluRs were characterized in cerebral microvascular endothelial cells (CMVEC) from newborn pigs.
