Preeclampsia is a complex condition characterized by elevated blood pressure and organ damage involving kidneys or liver, resulting in significant morbidity and mortality for both the mother and the fetus. Increasing evidence suggests that oxidative stress, often caused by mitochondrial dysfunction within fetal trophoblast cells may play a major role in the development and progression of preeclampsia. Oxidative stress occurs as a result of an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the capacity of antioxidant defenses, which can lead to placental cellular damage and endothelial cell dysfunction.

Virtual reality (VR) technology has emerged as a ground-breaking tool in neuroscience, revolutionizing our understanding of neuroplasticity and its implications for neurological rehabilitation. By immersing individuals in simulated environments, VR induces profound neurobiological transformations, affecting neuronal connectivity, sensory feedback mechanisms, motor learning processes, and cognitive functions. These changes highlight the dynamic interplay between molecular events, synaptic adaptations, and neural reorganization, emphasizing the potential of VR as a therapeutic intervention in various neurological disorders.

Research Question: Can a biomimetic microfluidic sperm sorter isolate motile sperm while minimizing DNA damage in comparison with density gradient centrifugation (DGC)?
Design: This was a two-phase study of 61 men, consisting of a proof-of-concept study with 21 donated semen samples in a university research laboratory, followed by a diagnostic andrology study with 40 consenting patients who presented at a fertility clinic for semen diagnostics. Each sample was split to perform DGC and microfluidic sperm selection (one-step sperm selection with 15 min of incubation) side-by-side. Outcomes evaluated included concentration, progressive motility, and DNA fragmentation index (DFI) of raw semen, and sperm isolated using DGC and the microfluidic device.

Introduction: The identification of effective, selective biomarkers and therapeutics is dependent on truly deep, comprehensive analysis of proteomes at the proteoform level.
Methods: Bovine serum albumin (BSA) isolated by two different protocols, cold ethanol fractionation and heat shock fractionation, was resolved and identified using Integrative Top-down Proteomics, the tight coupling of two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE) with liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).
Results And Discussion: Numerous proteoforms were identified in both "purified" samples, across a broad range of isoelectric points and molecular weights.

Although the biomedical advancements in HIV treatment have improved the original prognosis of the illness, people living with HIV (PLHIV) continue to encounter psychosocial challenges that impact their quality of life (QoL), including HIV-stigma and social connectedness. The present study investigates how different types of HIV-related stigma, as per the Conceptual Model of Perceived Stigma, respectively relate to QoL in the context of social connectedness in PLHIV. A total of 213 PLHIV attending a tertiary HIV clinic in Sydney Australia, completed questionnaires assessing HIV-related stigma, social connectedness, and QoL.

This study presents a multi-mode X-ray detection and imaging strategy by integrating photochromism, photoluminescence, and radioluminescence into Tb-doped CaAlSiO. CaAlSiO: Tb exhibits stable radioluminescence, oxygen vacancy-related photochromism, and photoluminescence modulation, all of which showed a linear relationship with X-ray exposure. This multi-mode response enables high-quality imaging and detection in both bright and dark conditions, facilitating time-dependent cumulative X-ray radiation dose assessments.

Disordered hyperuniform materials are increasingly drawing attention due to their unique physical properties, associated with global isotropy and locally broken orientational symmetry, that set them apart from traditional crystalline materials. Using a dynamic space-partitioning process, we generate disordered hyperuniform cellular structures where distinct patterns of pentagonal and heptagonal topological defects emerge within hexagonal domains. The microscopic defect dynamics are guided by local topological transitions, commonly observed in viscoelastic systems.

Street fight videos on the internet may provide information about little known aspects of human physical aggression, but their reliability is unclear. Analyses of 100 dyadic fight videos addressing ethological, game theoretic and sex-differentiated questions derived from research on other animals found that prefight verbalizations or gestural signals of nonaggressive or aggressive intent loosely predicted who would strike first and who would win. The head is the preferred strike target.

Currently, vascular grafting is the preferred option to replace or bypass the defective vascular segments, but finding materials with good biocompatibility and diversity alternative for practical clinical applications are still the challenge. The construction of tissue engineered blood vessels (TEBVs) with complex structures will be realized using 3D bioprinting technology, which provides a new idea for vascular transplantation. In this paper, the decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM)/nano clay (NC)/sodium alginate (SA) hybrid bioink was prepared to construct tubular scaffolds in vitro by coaxial 3D bioprinting.

Small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) are membranous vesicles released from cellular structures through plasma membrane budding. These vesicles contain cellular components such as proteins, lipids, mRNAs, microRNAs, long-noncoding RNA, circular RNA, and double-stranded DNA, originating from the cells they are shed from. Ranging in size from ≈25 to 300 nm and play critical roles in facilitating cell-to-cell communication by transporting signaling molecules.

Understanding how crop varieties acclimate to elevated temperatures is key to priming them for future climates. Here, we exposed two genotypes of Sorghum bicolor (one sensitive to heat shock (Sen) and one tolerant (Tol)) from multiple growth temperatures to a six-day heat shock (reaching 45°C), carrying out a suite of measurements before and during heat shock. Sen consistently reduced photosynthetic functioning during heat shock, while Tol increased its photosynthetic rate.
