Visual estimates of cover are widely used among ecologists, from describing vegetation communities to tracking and monitoring species' abundance. However, despite the known bias associated with visual estimates, no standardised training is available to improve these measurements. We developed a free online training tool, the COVERater, that effectively teaches users to visually estimate the percent cover of species in a variety of ecosystems (including alpine heath, arid lands, coral reefs, temperate reefs and wetlands).

A comprehensive immune landscape for infection is crucial for developing new treatments for brucellosis. Here, we utilized single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) of 290,369 cells from 35 individuals, including 29 brucellosis patients from acute ( = 10), sub-acute ( = 9), and chronic ( = 10) phases as well as six healthy donors. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays were applied for validation within this cohort.

The need for biomarker-informed stratification of targeted therapies has underpinned the need to uncover the underlying properties of the tumor microenvironment (TME) through high-plex quantitative assays.
Methods: In this study, we profiled resected NSCLC tissues from 102 patients by targeted spatial proteomics of 78 proteins across tumor, immune activation, immune cell typing, immune-oncology, drug targets, cell death and PI3K/AKT modules to identify the tumor and stromal signatures associated with overall survival (OS).

Objectives: Globally, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most prevalent form of lung cancer and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Tumor-associated circulating cells in NSCLC can have a wide variety of morphological and phenotypic characteristics, including epithelial, immunological or hybrid subtypes. The distinctive characteristics and potential clinical significance of these cells in patients with NSCLC are explored in this study.

Objectives: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a member of a class of highly pathogenic coronaviruses. The large family of coronaviruses, however, also includes members that cause only mild symptoms, like human coronavirus-229E (HCoV-229E) or OC43 (HCoV-OC43). Unravelling how molecular (and cellular) pathophysiology differs between highly and low pathogenic coronaviruses is important for the development of therapeutic strategies.

The growth of graphene on silicon carbide on silicon offers a very attractive route towards novel wafer-scale photonic and electronic devices that are easy to fabricate and can be integrated in silicon manufacturing. Using a Ni/Cu catalyst for the epitaxial growth of graphene has been successful in the mitigation of the very defective nature of the underlying silicon carbide on silicon, leading to a consistent graphene coverage over large scales. A more detailed understanding of this growth mechanism is warranted in order to further optimise the catalyst composition, preferably the use of characterization measurements.

Objectives: To develop an online treatment decision aid (OTDA) to assist patients with low-risk prostate cancer (LRPC) and their partners in making treatment decisions.
Patients And Methods: , an OTDA for LRPC, was rigorously co-designed by patients with a confirmed diagnosis or at risk of LRPC and their partners, clinicians, researchers and website designers/developers. A theoretical model guided the development process.
Flowers come in a variety of colours, shapes, sizes and odours. Flowers also differ in the quality and quantity of nutritional reward they provide to entice potential pollinators to visit. Given this diversity, generalist flower-visiting insects face the considerable challenge of deciding which flowers to feed on and which to ignore.

Background: Attitudes towards vaccines have affected COVID-19 vaccination programs in many countries. This study sought to evaluate the effects of general perceptions on the safety and health concerns and the confidence in COVID-19 vaccines on its uptake in Ghana.
Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted between January and March 2021.
Mutualisms are prevalent in many ecosystems, yet little is known about how symbioses are affected by ecological pressures. Here, we show delayed recovery for 13 coral-dwelling goby fishes (genus ) compared with their host corals following four consecutive cyclones and heatwaves. While corals became twice as abundant in 3 years postdisturbances, gobies were only half as abundant relative to predisturbances and half of the goby species disappeared.

The breakdown of allochthonous organic matter, is a central step in nutrient cycling in stream ecosystems.
