Inhibitory immune checkpoint (ICP) molecules are important immunosuppressive factors in a tumor microenvironment (TME). They can robustly suppress T-cell-mediated antitumor immune responses leading to cancer progression. Among the checkpoint molecules, cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein-4 (CTLA-4) is one of the critical inhibitors of anticancer T-cell responses.

Although semen cryopreservation is an important, widely used technique for long-term sperm storage, it not only induces partially irreversible damages to sperm but might also deteriorate anatomical, biochemical, and structural organelles. These cellular and epigenetic modifications are the main reasons underlying the decline in sperm motility and fertility during the freeze-thaw process. Using the two Lake and Beltsville semen extenders, the present study aims to evaluate the epigenetic patterns (DNA methylation and histone modification), cellular parameters (e.

In this study, the ELP sequence was fused to human interferon-γ (hIFN-γ) and hIFN-γ-ELP fusion protein accumulated with high levels of yield and purity, compared with the corresponding unfused hIFN-γ protein. The hIFN-γ was exclusively produced in the form of insoluble inclusion bodies while the hIFN-γ was relatively soluble when expressed as an ELP fusion protein. The insoluble inclusion bodies were then solubilized under denaturing conditions, refolded in the presence of arginine and purified by single-step ion-exchange chromatography.

Cancer cachexia is a multifactorial syndrome characterized by anorexia, body wasting, and muscle and adipose tissue loss, impairing patient's tolerance to anticancer treatments and survival. The aim of the present study was to compare the effects induced in mice by tumor growth alone (C26) or in combination with chemotherapy [C26 oxaliplatin and 5-fluorouracil (oxfu)] and to evaluate the potential of moderate exercise. Oxfu administration to C26 mice exacerbated muscle wasting and triggered autophagy or mitophagy, decreased protein synthesis, and induced mitochondrial alterations.

Cockerel semen is sensitive to cooling, which limits chilled storage of semen for more than 24 h. Results of artificial insemination with cold-stored semen are not desirable. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary fish oil and vitamin E (vitE) for cold-storage of rooster semen and its effects on parameters of semen during 48 h cooling preservation.

Unique properties of lead chalcogenides have enabled multiple exciton generation (MEG) in their nanocrystals that can be beneficial in enhancing the efficiency of third-generation solar cells. Although the intrinsic electric field plays an imperative role in a solar cell, its effect on the multiple exciton generation (MEG) has been overlooked, so far. Using EOM-CCSD as a many-body approach, we show that any electric field can affect the absorptivity spectra of the lead chalcogenide nanocrystals (Pb Te , Pb Se , and Pb S ).

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation as an environmental factor alters the physiological and metabolic processes in plants. Manganese (Mn) is an essential element that is required for plant growth and development. This experiment was conducted in order to determine the effects of Mn supply and UV radiation on the physiological and metabolic responses in Mentha aquatica.

CO concentration (XCO) shows the spatial and temporal variation in Iran. The major purpose of this investigation is the assessment of the spatial distribution of carbon dioxide concentration in the different seasons of 2013 based on the Thermal And Near Infrared Sensor for Carbon Observation-Fourier Transform Spectrometer (TANSO-FTS) level 2 GOSAT data by implementing the ordinary kriging (OK) method. In this study, the Land Surface Temperature (LST), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data from the MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), and metrological parameters (temperature and precipitation) were used for the analysis of the spatial distribution of CO over Iran in 2013.

Cadmium (Cd) is toxic to animals and humans after it accumulates over decades in the kidney cortex. Food crops grown in Cd-contaminated soils are the primary sources of excessive Cd entry into humans. Although plant available Zn concentration in soil is an important factor which can greatly reduce Cd uptake by plant roots and its translocation into the edible parts, Cd:Zn ratio is suggested to be a more important factor in comparison with Zn concentration alone in determining Cd uptake by plants.

Rooster sperm is sensitive to cooling, which restricts procedures to store sperms for extended periods of time for artificial insemination of commercial flocks. This study was conducted to evaluate the suitability of adding L-carnitine (LC) to chilled-storage of rooster sperm and its effects on sperm quality parameters and its fertility potential during storage at 5 °C. Pooled semen from roosters were divided into six equal aliquots and diluted with media supplemented with different concentrations of LC (0, 0.

Rooster semen cryopreservation is not efficient for artificial insemination in breeder flocks. L-Carnitine (LC) has been evaluated for effectiveness in cryopreservation media on the characteristics of rooster sperm after freeze-thawing. Motility characteristics, membrane functionality, abnormal morphology, apoptotic like changes, mitochondria activity and lipid peroxidation of rooster sperms were assessed after freeze-thawing with different concentrations of LC in Beltsville medium.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the fertility response of artificial insemination (AI) methods with fresh and frozen sperm in sheep. In experiment 1, one hundred and fifty fat tailed Zandi ewes were assigned into 3 equal groups and inseminated with three AI methods consisting of vaginal, laparoscopic and trans-cervical AI with fresh semen. In experiment 2, a factorial study (3 AI methods × 2 extenders) was used to analyze the effects of three AI methods and two freezing extenders containing soybean lecithin (SL) or Egg yolk (EY) on reproductive performance of 300 fat tailed Zandi ewes.

In this study, we used nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide (N-TiO) NPs in conjugation with visible light, and show that both reactive oxygen species (ROS) and autophagy are induced by this novel NP-based photodynamic therapy (PDT) system. While well-dispersed N-TiO NPs (≤100 μg/ml) were inert, their photo-activation with visible light led to ROS-mediated autophagy in leukemia K562 cells and normal peripheral lymphocytes, and this increased in parallel with increasing NP concentrations and light doses. At a constant light energy (12 J/cm), increasing N-TiO NP concentrations increased ROS levels to trigger autophagy-dependent megakaryocytic terminal differentiation in K562 cells.

Ram semen cryopreservation is not efficient for artificial insemination in commercial herds. Beneficial effects of dietary fish oil have been evaluated for cryopreservation of ram semen in soybean lecithin (SL) and egg yolk (EY)-based extenders. A factorial study (two diets × two extenders) was used to analyze the effects of two diets supplemented with fish oil (n-3 fatty acid) or palm oil (saturated fatty acids; [SFAs]) to freeze ram semen in two extenders containing SL or EY.

Background: Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine is the only vaccine that is used against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, but its efficacy is limited in mycobacterium-endemic regions. One of the major antigens present on the cell envelope of the vaccine that suppresses the immune system is mannosylated lipoarabinomannan (ManLAM).
Materials And Methods: In this study, we immunized 4-week-old mice with sonicated BCG vaccine injected intraperitoneally two times at an interval of 2 weeks and with ManLAM antigen injected intravenously and then extracted the spleen cells of the immunized mice.

Background: Cervical ripening for labor induction is one of the most important issues in midwifery. Isosorbide dinitrate (ISDN) is one of the most important choices that have been proposed for cervical ripening, but still there are controversies regarding its prescription. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of vaginal and oral ISDN compared to the control group for pre-induction cervical ripening.
