Protein aggregation is a biological process that occurs when proteins misfold. Misfolding and aggregation of human superoxide dismutase (hSOD1) cause a neurodegenerative disease called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Among the mutations occurring, targeting the E21K mutation could be a good choice to understand the pathological mechanism of SOD1 in ALS, whereof it significantly reduces life hopefulness in patients.

Background: Numerous features are commonly generated in radiomics applications as applied to medical imaging, and identification of robust radiomics features (RFs) can be an important step to derivation of reliable, reproducible solutions. In this work, we utilize a tensor radiomics (TR) framework, where numerous fusions are explored, to generate different flavours of RFs, and we aimed to identify RFs that are robust to fusion techniques in head and neck cancer. Overall, we aimed to predict progression-free survival (PFS) using Hybrid Machine Learning Systems (HMLS) and reproducible RFs.

Background: Although handcrafted radiomics features (RF) are commonly extracted via radiomics software, employing deep features (DF) extracted from deep learning (DL) algorithms merits significant investigation. Moreover, a "tensor'' radiomics paradigm where various flavours of a given feature are generated and explored can provide added value. We aimed to employ conventional and tensor DFs, and compare their outcome prediction performance to conventional and tensor RFs.

According to recent researches, people with diabetes mellitus (type 1 and 2) have a higher incidence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is caused by a SARS-CoV-2 infection. In this regard, COVID-19 may make diabetic patients more sensitive to hyperglycemia by modifying the immunological and inflammatory responses and increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) predisposing the patients to severe COVID-19 and potentially lethal results. Actually, in addition to COVID-19, diabetic patients have been demonstrated to have abnormally high levels of inflammatory cytokines, increased virus entrance, and decreased immune response.

Despite community vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and reduced mortality, there are still challenges in treatment options for the disease. Due to the continuous mutation of SARS-CoV-2 virus and the emergence of new strains, diversity in the use of existing antiviral drugs to combat the epidemic has become a crucial therapeutic chance. As a broad-spectrum antiparasitic and antiviral drug, ivermectin has traditionally been used to treat many types of disease, including DNA and RNA viral infections.

Cross-laminated timber (CLT) can be used as an element in various parts of timber structures, such as bridges. Fast-growing hardwood species, like poplar, are useful in regions where there is a lack of wood resources. In this study, the withdrawal resistance of nine types of conventional fasteners (stainless-steel nails, concrete nails and screws, drywall screws, three types of partially and fully threaded wood screws, and two types of lag screws), with three loading directions (parallel to the grain, perpendicular to the surface, and tangential), and two layer arrangements (0-90-0° and 0-45-0°) in 3-ply CLTs made of poplar as a fast-growing species and fir as a common species in manufacturing of CLT was investigated.

Aims: Despite extensive efforts to find new treatments, chemotherapy is still one of the first and foremost choices for cancer treatment. The main problems of using these drugs are the resistance of cancer cells and reducing their sensitivity to chemotherapy as well as the side effects of their systemic administration. Because STAT3 plays a very important role in the survival and susceptibility of cancer cells to apoptosis, we hypothesized that suppression of STAT3 expression could induce greater susceptibility to DOX-induced cancer cell death.

Increased expression of Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) in the tumor microenvironment, mainly due to tumor growth, plays a major role in the growth of cancer. Tumor cells induce the expression of cyclooxygenase 2 (COX2) and its product, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), through overexpression of HIF-1α. It has been shown that ligation of PGE2 with its receptor, EP4, robustly promotes cancer progression.

The plant-based expression systems are now accredited as bioreactors for the high production of various biopharmaceuticals. However, low levels of agglomeration and the absence of effective procedures for purification of recombinant proteins have remained two essential obstacles in molecular farming. In this research, we have studied the production of human interferon gamma (hIFN-γ) in tobacco and analyzed the effects of elastin-like polypeptide (ELP) tag and subcellular localization on its accumulation.

The immunosuppressive state of the tumor microenvironment diminishes the efficacy of dendritic cell (DC)-based cancer immunotherapy. Inhibitory immune checkpoint molecules expressed on tumor-infiltrating T lymphocytes, such as cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA-4) molecules are one of the main barriers in priming T cells by DCs. Therefore, it seems that blockade of such molecules facilitates the T cells activation by the DC vaccine.

Overexpression of adenosine in the tumor region leads to suppression of various immune cells, particularly T cells through ligation with adenosine 2a receptor (A2aR). In this study, we intended to increase the efficacy of tumor lysate-loaded DC vaccine by silencing the expression of A2aR on T cells through the application of A2aR-specific siRNA-loaded PEG-chitosan-lactate (PCL) nanoparticles (NPs) in the 4T1 breast tumor-bearing mice. Combination therapy by DC vaccine and siRNA-loaded NPs markedly induced tumor regression and increased survival time of mice.
