Background And Objective: Non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) poses a significant clinical challenge, particularly when failing bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) therapy, necessitating alternative treatments. Despite radical cystectomy being the recommended treatment, many patients are unfit or unwilling to undergo this invasive procedure, highlighting the need for effective bladder-sparing therapies. This review aims to summarize and report the evidence on the efficacy and to estimate the costs of bladder-preserving strategies used in NMIBC recurrence after failure of intravesical BCG therapy.

Urban rats are significant reservoirs of zoonotic endoparasites, posing serious health risks to humans. This study aimed to detect common endoparasites in wild brown rats (Rattus norvegicus) in Budapest, addressing the current lack of endoparasite surveys in Hungary. Carcasses of 131 rats collected following extermination were examined.

Nipah virus disease is a bat-borne zoonosis with person-to-person transmission, a case-fatality rate of 38-75%, and well recognised potential to cause a pandemic. The first reported outbreak of Nipah virus disease occurred in Malaysia and Singapore in 1998, which has since been followed by multiple outbreaks in Bangladesh and India. To date, no therapeutics or vaccines have been approved to treat Nipah virus disease, and only few such candidates are in development.

There is evidence that people who fare worse in recovery do so, not only because of their illness, but also because of social and structural determinants. For example, food insecurity and poor nutrition, unemployment, poverty, social isolation and loneliness, limited social support, and poor access to medical care represent marked obstacles to recovery. Those who experience social or structural disadvantage have a poor start to their critical illness journey and are more vulnerable to adverse material conditions that contribute to and worsen their health outcomes.

Amyloid diseases are characterized by the accumulation of misfolded protein aggregates in human tissues, pose significant challenges for both diagnosis and treatment. Protein aggregations known as amyloids are linked to several neurodegenerative conditions including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and systemic amyloidosis. The key goal of this research is to employ Small-Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) to examine the supramolecular structures of amyloid aggregates in human tissues.

Background: This observational study compared effectiveness and safety of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs; apixaban, rivaroxaban, dabigatran) or vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) at high risk for gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB).
Methods: Anticoagulant-naïve adults with NVAF with ≥1 GIB risk factor, initiating anticoagulant treatment January 2016-December 2019, and covered by the French national health data system were eligible. Outcomes included major bleeding (MB) and stroke/systemic embolism (SE).

Background: Parkinson's disease is a complex progressive neurodegenerative disease increasing globally. Self-management interventions have shown promise in improving the quality of life for people with chronic conditions. This paper aims to describe the development processes and the core components of a facilitated self-management toolkit to support people with Parkinson's disease to self-manage their condition.

Background: Research in recent years has increasingly highlighted the relationship between exposure to potentially morally injurious events (PMIEs) and poor mental health outcomes. Human trafficking survivors often report exposure to many traumatic and PMIEs and given the complexities of trafficking exploitation, survivors may be especially vulnerable to moral injury. Despite this, no research has investigated experiences of PMIEs and moral injury in human trafficking survivors.

Deuterium-labeled pyocyanin was prepared from deuterium-labeled phenazine methosulfate in gram scale by a simplified flow photosynthesis in water. The main product was the protonated red form of pyocyanin-d (Pyo-d-H) in 85 % yield. Quantum chemical calculations of NMR support that nitrogen-10 is protonated.

Several buildings in a Danish social housing estate exceeded indoor air guidance values for polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), leading to their demolition. Here, we conducted a biomonitoring study among the workers on-site (n = 24) to evaluate their exposure to all 209 PCBs across the two-year demolition. We compared their PCB serum concentrations and accumulation to those of demolition workers at other worksites (n = 21) and office workers (n = 17).

Large Language Models (LLMs), particularly those similar to ChatGPT, have significantly influenced the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP). While these models excel in general language tasks, their performance in domain-specific downstream tasks such as biomedical and clinical Named Entity Recognition (NER), Relation Extraction (RE), and Medical Natural Language Inference (NLI) is still evolving. In this context, our study investigates the potential of instruction tuning for biomedical language processing, applying this technique to two general LLMs of substantial scale.

According to the World Health Organization, neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) affect over two billion people worldwide. While the links between nutrition and many diseases have become clear over recent decades, NTDs have lagged behind and the linkage with nutrition is largely unknown. We conducted this systematic review with meta-analysis to determine the current knowledge on the association between NTDs and malnutrition.

Background: African, Caribbean, and Black im/migrant women experience a disproportionate burden of HIV relative to people born in Canada, yet there is scarce empirical evidence about the social and structural barriers that influence access to HIV care. The objectives of this study is to estimate associations between African, Caribbean, and Black background and stigma and non-consensual HIV disclosure outcomes, and to understand how experiences of stigma and im/migration trajectories shape access to HIV care and peer supports among African, Caribbean, and Black im/migrant women living with HIV in Canada.
Methods: This mixed-methods analysis draws on interviewer-administered questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with self-identifying African, Caribbean, and Black women living with HIV in the community-based SHAWNA (Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS: Women's Longitudinal Needs Assessment) cohort.

Background: People with Achilles tendinopathy (AT) experience persistent pain that can limit engagement with daily occupations and negatively impact mental health. Current therapeutic exercise approaches vary in success, with many people experiencing reinjury, leading to a cycle of chronic tendinopathy often lasting years. High-magnitude precision loading may help people exit this feedback cycle, but applying these principles clinically is challenging.

Background: The underdiagnosis of cognitive impairment hinders timely intervention of dementia. Health professionals working in the community play a critical role in the early detection of cognitive impairment, yet still face several challenges such as a lack of suitable tools, necessary training, and potential stigmatization.
Objective: This study explored a novel application integrating psychometric methods with data science techniques to model subtle inconsistencies in questionnaire response data for early identification of cognitive impairment in community environments.

Land use change is crucial to addressing the existential threats of climate change and biodiversity loss while enhancing food security [M. Zurek , , 1416-1421 (2022)]. The interconnected and spatially varying nature of the impacts of land use change means that these challenges must be addressed simultaneously [H.
