Folia Morphol (Warsz)

November 2019

Department of Anatomy, University of Süleyman Demirel, School of Medicine, Isparta, Turkey.

Background: Neural tube defects are congenital malformations of the central nervous system. Genetic predisposition and some environmental factors play an important role in the development of neural tube defects. This study aimed to investigate the effects of diclofenac sodium on the neural tube development in a chick embryo model that corresponds to the first month of vertebral deve- lopment in mammals.

Introduction: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a complex, polygenic and multifactorial disease. The relationship between Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) polymorphisms and sleep disturbances has been established, but the relationship with HLA alleles has not been fully clarified. In addition, sleep deprivation in OSAS patients can cause changes that affect the components and responses of the immune system.

Background: There are no published studies regarding the role of the plasminogen (PLG) system in familial Mediterranean fever (FMF), FMF-associated secondary amyloidosis, or chronic periodontitis (CP), although recent limited data have focused on the association between FMF and chronic periodontitis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the serum, salivary, and gingival tissue levels of PLG in patients with CP, FMF, and amyloidosis.

Methods: The study population included 122 patients with FMF (only FMF, and FMF and amyloidosis and 128 individuals who were systemically healthy controls.

Some lectin binding properties of the tongue of the mole rat, Nannospalax xanthodon.

Biotech Histochem

May 2018

d Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine , University of Aksaray, Aksaray , Turkey.

We investigated carbohydrate residues on the epithelial surface, in the epithelial cells and in gland cells of the tongue of the mole rat using histochemical methods. We used horseradish peroxidase-conjugated lectins from Helix pomatia (HPA), Arachishypogaea (PNA), Ulexeuropaeus (UEA I), Canavaliaensiformis (Con A). The most intense reactivity was observed in the keratin layer with HPA, UEA I and Con A, and in the epithelial cells with UEA I and Con A.

R202Q/M694V as novel MEFV gene mutations in chronic periodontitis and familial Mediterranean fever.

J Periodontal Res

December 2017

Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Süleyman Demirel, Isparta, Turkey.

Background And Objective: Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) and chronic periodontitis are inflammatory diseases leading to an increase in the number of inflammasomes. To date, no published studies have reported on mutations in the Mediterranean fever (MEFV) gene in patients with chronic periodontitis, although the roles of MEFV gene mutations in FMF and FMF-associated amyloidosis (FMF-A) are well known. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the frequencies of MEFV gene mutations and serum amyloid A (SAA) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels in patients with chronic periodontitis, FMF and FMF-A.
