Bone marrow, a soft spongy tissue, is containing mesenchymal stem cells, that are well-recognized according to their self-renewability and stemness. Therefore, we hypothesized that bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) could have a pivotal influence on the process of wound healing in particular when it is combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Thirty-six albino mice (BALB/c) were used in the study and they were grouped as negative-control, PRP treated, BMAC treated and BMAC plus PRP treated.

Article Synopsis
  • Updated data on chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) are essential for preventing and controlling these conditions as part of achieving the UN's goal of reducing premature mortality from non-communicable diseases by 2030.
  • From 1990 to 2019, global, regional, and national estimates were analyzed for various CRDs, including COPD and asthma, to assess their impact on mortality, disability, and overall prevalence.
  • In 2019, CRDs resulted in 4 million deaths and 454.6 million cases worldwide, with conditions like COPD being the leading cause of death among CRDs, despite a decline in age-standardized rates for most diseases over the period analyzed.

Disposal of waste containing heavy metals into the environment is a major threat to human health and can result in toxic or chronic poisoning in aquatic life. In the current study, metal-resistant was isolated from metal-contaminated samples collected from the Tanjaro River, located southwest of Sulaymaniyah, Iraq. was identified by partial amplification of 16S rRNA.

The small non-coding RNA, microRNA-21 (miR-21), is dysregulated in various cancers and can be considered an appropriate target for therapeutic approaches. Therefore, the detection of miR-21 concentration is important in the diagnosis of diseases. Low specificity and the cost of materials are two necessary limitations in the traditional diagnosis method such as RT-PCR, northern blotting and microarray analysis.

Human Cytomegalovirus UL24 and UL43 Cooperate to Modulate the Expression of Immunoregulatory UL16 Binding Protein 1.

Viral Immunol

October 2022

Unit of Herpesvirus and Molecular Virology, Key Laboratory of Molecular Virology & Immunology, Institut Pasteur of Shanghai, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, China.

The human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) UL24 and UL43 are tegument proteins that have recently been shown to interact with each other in a yeast two-hybrid system. By their overexpression in MRC5 cells, we demonstrate that these viral proteins interact with several important host proteins, especially Dicer and trans-activation response RNA binding protein. As these hots proteins are involved in regulating the production of cellular micro-RNAs, the cytomegalovirus (CMV) proteins could interfere with their actions to favor viral replication directly or through an immune escape mechanism.

Background/objective: Naringenin is a member of the flavonoid family that can perform many biological processes to treat a wide range of inflammatory diseases and pathological conditions related to oxidative stress (OS). Naringenin immunomodulatory activities have been the subject of recent research as an effective alternative treatment for autoimmune disorders. The effects of naringenin on the levels of inflammatory biomarkers and OS factors in animal models of autoimmune disorders (ADs) were studied in this meta-analysis.

Pancreatic duct adenocarcinoma, commonly known as pancreatic cancer (PC), is a cancer-related cause of death due to delayed diagnosis, metastasis, and drug resistance. Patients with PC suffer from incorrect responses to chemotherapy due to inherent and acquired chemical resistance. Numerous studies have shown the mechanism of the effect of chemoresistance on PC, such as genetic and epigenetic changes or the elucidation of signaling pathways.

Balanced cell death and survival are among the most important cell development and homeostasis pathways that can play a critical role in the onset or progress of malignancy steps. Anastasis is a natural cell recovery pathway that rescues cells after removing the apoptosis-inducing agent or brink of death. The cells recuperate and recover to an active and stable state.

Article Synopsis
  • COVID-19 is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, first identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, leading to severe respiratory infections and a global health crisis.
  • The interaction between the virus and the immune system can lead to diverse symptoms, with the adaptive immune response being vital for fighting the infection, but sometimes the innate immune system can exacerbate the situation.
  • The review discusses how the immune system becomes exhausted during the infection, the virus's ability to inhibit T cell responses, and explores potential strategies for immunomodulation to enhance immune defense against SARS-CoV-2.

Mesenchymal stem cells affect ALL cell biology under hypoxic conditions. We studied survival, proliferation, expression, and promoter methylation levels of essential genes involved in expanding MOLT-4 cells co-cultured with BM-MSC under the hypoxic condition. Here, MOLT-4 cells were co-cultured with BMMSCs under hypoxic conditions.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy is a promising and rapidly expanding therapeutic option for a wide range of human malignancies. Despite the ongoing progress of CAR T-cell therapy in hematologic malignancies, the application of this therapeutic strategy in solid tumors has encountered several challenges due to antigen heterogeneity, suboptimal CAR T-cell trafficking, and the immunosuppressive features of the tumor microenvironment (TME). Oncolytic virotherapy is a novel cancer therapy that employs competent or genetically modified oncolytic viruses (OVs) to preferentially proliferate in tumor cells.

Introduction: There are limited published data regarding the recent incidence trends of cancer in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Methods: The present study assessed the epidemiological estimates of cancer incidence, as well providing a projection of future cancer trends in the upcoming decade by analysing the population-based cancer registry between 2013 and 2019, in both the Erbil and Duhok governorates. A retrospective analysis was performed on data retrieved from the Medical Statistics Department at the Ministry of Health, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

Iraq has endured several conflicts and socio-political tensions that have disrupted its public health system. Nowadays, because health data are not collected on a routine basis, the country still lacks proper statistics and, consequently, response plans to meet present and future health needs of its population. An international partnership is developing in the Iraqi Kurdistan a Health Monitoring System with the aim of supporting evidence-based health policy decisions.
