Objectives: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a noninvasive neurostimulation technique that uses magnetic field to comprehensively influence events in the brain. Its use in patients after stroke focuses mainly on influencing brain neuroplasticity and therefore has the potential to improve motor functions in these patients. This study investigates the effect of rTMS on motor function recovery in patients in the acute stage of ischemic stroke.

Background: The balance between antioxidants and pro-oxidants plays a significant role in the context of oxidative stress, influenced by both physiological and non-physiological factors.
Objectives: In this study, 18 prescribed antibiotics (including doxycycline hydrochloride, tigecycline, rifampicin, tebipenem, cefuroxime, cefixime, potassium clavulanate, colistin, ampicillin, amoxicillin, amikacin, nalidixic acid, azithromycin, pipemidic acid trihydrate, pivmecillinam, aztreonam, fosfomycin sodium, and ciprofloxacin) were subjected to simultaneous determination of antioxidant and pro-oxidant potential to assess if pro-oxidant activity is a dominant co-mechanism of antibacterial activity or if any antibiotic exhibits a balanced effect.
Methods: This study presents a recently developed approach for the simultaneous assessment of antioxidant and pro-oxidant potential on a single microplate in situ, applied to prescribed antibiotics.

Four branched-chain aliphatic α-amino acids─α-alanine, valine, leucine, and isoleucine (-)─were investigated by quantum-chemical calculations in water as a solvent by two methods. The B3LYP variant of DFT calculations was used to obtain the electronic structure and molecular descriptors of these species in their canonical amino acid form as well as the related zwitterionic form in three oxidation states (cation, neutral molecule, and anion). A total of 24 species were subjected to full geometry optimization and complete vibration analysis.

Three neurotransmitters belonging to catecholamines (dopamine, noradrenaline, adrenaline) and related α-amino acids (DOPA and tyrosine) were studied by quantum-chemical and DFT calculations using B3LYP and DLPNO-CCSD(T) methods in water. In addition to the three canonical forms, zwitterionic forms were also investigated, each in three oxidation states (molecular cation L, electroneutral molecule L, and molecular anion L). Each species was subjected to geometry optimization followed by vibrational analysis.

The UPPS-P Impulsive Behavior Model and the various psychometric instruments developed and validated based on this model are well established in clinical and research settings. However, evidence regarding the psychometric validity, reliability, and equivalence across multiple countries of residence, languages, or gender identities, including gender-diverse individuals, is lacking to date. Using data from the International Sex Survey ( = 82,243), confirmatory factor analyses and measurement invariance analyses were performed on the preestablished five-factor structure of the 20-item short version of the UPPS-P Impulsive Behavior Scale to examine whether (a) psychometric validity and reliability and (b) psychometric equivalence hold across 34 country-of-residence-related, 22 language-related, and three gender-identity-related groups.

It has been reported that, in the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) model of hypertension, different components of the G-protein/adenylate cyclase (AC)/Calcium-activated potassium channel of high conductance (BK) channel signaling pathway are altered differently. In the upstream part of the pathway (G-protein/AC), a comparatively low efficacy has been established, whereas downstream BK currents seem to be increased. Thus, the overall performance of this signaling pathway in SHR is elusive.

Currently, the main α-amylase family GH13 has been divided into 47 subfamilies in CAZy, with new subfamilies regularly emerging. The present in silico study was performed to highlight the groups, represented by the maltogenic amylase from Thermotoga neapolitana and the α-amylase from Haloarcula japonica, which are worth of creating their own new GH13 subfamilies. This enlarges functional annotation and thus allows more precise prediction of the function of putative proteins.

In recent years, a significant number of infections have been attributed to non-albicidal species (NAC), mainly due to the increasing resistance of NAC to antifungal agents. As only a few antifungal agents are available (azoles, echinocandins, polyenes, allylamines and nucleoside analogues), it is very important to look for possible alternatives to inhibit resistant fungi. One possibility could be essential oils (EOs), which have been shown to have significant antifungal and antibacterial activity.

Chiral resolution of racemic compounds represents an important task in research and development and, most importantly, in the large-scale production of pharmaceuticals. Zeolites, which are already frequently utilized for their unique properties, represent materials that can be used for the development of new chiral stationary phases for liquid chromatography, simulated moving bed or enantioselective membranes. The aim of this study was to modify a series of MWW zeolites by a chiral anion-exchange type selector thereby creating a chiral stationary phase for enantiomeric resolution of acidic compounds.

In this work, the effect of moderate electromagnetic fields (2.5, 10, and 15 mT) was studied using an immersed coil inserted directly into a bioreactor on batch cultivation of yeast under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. The study of how micro-organisms detect and respond to different stresses has a long history of producing fundamental biological insights while being simultaneously of significance in many applied microbiological fields including infection, food and drink manufacture, and industrial and environmental biotechnology. This is well-illustrated by the large body of work on acid stress. Numerous different methods have been used to understand the impacts of low pH on growth and survival of micro-organisms, ranging from studies of single cells to large and heterogeneous populations, from the molecular or biophysical to the computational, and from well-understood model organisms to poorly defined and complex microbial consortia.

This scoping review aims (1) to map the literature dealing with neurophysiological and biomechanical aspects of back problems in athletes in order to identify valid risk-factors for their prevention, plus (2) to identify gaps in the existing research and propose suggestions for future studies. A literature search conducted with Scopus, Web of Science, MEDLINE and Cochrane Library was completed by Elsevier, SpringerLink and Google Scholar. The main neurophysiological risk factors identified leading to back problems in athletes are neuromuscular imbalance, increased muscle fatigability, muscle dysfunction and impaired motor control, whilst biomechanical risk factors include maladaptive spinal, spinopelvic and lower limb kinematics, side-to-side imbalances in axial strength and hip rotation range of motion, spinal overloading and deficits in movement pattern.

The subfamily GH13_16 trehalose synthase (TreS) converts maltose to trehalose and vice versa. Typically, it consists of three domains, but it may contain a C-terminal extension exhibiting clear sequence features of a maltokinase (MaK).
