Background: We studied the effect of apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 status and sex on age of symptom onset (AO) in early- (EO) and late- (LO) onset Alzheimer's disease (AD).
Method: A total of 998 EOAD and 2562 LOAD participants from the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC) were included. We used analysis of variance to examine AO differences between sexes and APOE genotypes and the effect of APOE ε4, sex, and their interaction on AO in EOAD and LOAD, separately.

Models are mathematical representations of systems, processes or phenomena. In biomechanics, finite-element modelling (FEM) can be a powerful tool, allowing biologists to test form-function relationships , replacing or extending results of experimentation. Although modelling simplifications and assumptions are necessary, as a minimum modelling requirement the results of the simplified model must reflect the biomechanics of the modelled system.

Persons living with dementia and their caregivers are among society's most vulnerable, a condition exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. This national survey was conducted with dementia caregivers in the US. Primary outcomes targeted pandemic-related changes in cognitive, behavioral, and motors systems.

Background: We studied the effect of apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 status and sex on rates of cognitive decline in early- (EO) and late- (LO) onset Alzheimer's disease (AD).
Method: We ran mixed-effects models with longitudinal cognitive measures as dependent variables, and sex, APOE ε4 carrier status, and interaction terms as predictor variables in 998 EOAD and 2562 LOAD participants from the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center.
Results: APOE ε4 carriers showed accelerated cognitive decline relative to non-carriers in both EOAD and LOAD, although the patterns of specific cognitive domains that were affected differed.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by motor dysfunction. Although the inhibition of inflammation by Tai Chi has been demonstrated to involve a peripheral cytokine response and may play an important role in improving the motor function of PD patients, the related specific molecular mechanisms of the peripheral immune response to Tai Chi are not fully understood. The microarray dataset 'GSE124676' for the peripheral immune response to Tai Chi of PD patients was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database.

Aim: This concept analysis analyzes pressure injury screening in the emergency department setting using Walker and Avant's approach.
Background: Pressure injury treatment cost in the United States totals over 11 billion dollars annually. Although a pressure injury could develop in the few hours a patient is in the emergency department, there is little guidance on how an emergency department should screen, prevent, and treat patients.

Although discrete maternal exercise and polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) supplementation individually are beneficial for infant body composition, the effects of exercise and PUFA during pregnancy on infant body composition have not been studied. This study evaluated the body composition of infants born to women participating in a randomized control exercise intervention study. Participants were randomized to aerobic exercise (n = 25) or control (stretching and breathing) groups (n = 10).

WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: There are individuals living with serious mental illness in both healthcare and academia. The high stress nature of these fields can worsen or trigger mental illness, burnout, moral injury, and compassion fatigue in employees. Mental health nurses have the needed skillset to foster change in these settings.

The need to focus on immunology education has never been greater. The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has revealed that a significant proportion of our society is vaccine hesitant. Some of this hesitancy may stem from a general lack of understanding of how the immune system and immunological interventions work.

Background: Short peripheral intravenous catheters are the most common invasive procedure used to deliver medications, blood products, and fluids to patients, and failure has the potential to impact the quality of care.
Methods: This study compared IVs stabilized with current transparent film dressing to those using an engineered stabilization device. The first phase of the study evaluated documentation; data from patient records were found less than optimal but most complete for securement and removal, the two fields most critical to the study.

We have explored the physico-chemical properties of NNK diazonium ion to gain insight into its shape, bonding, charge distribution, and ro-vibrational features. This information is essential if the chemical reactivity and physical properties of this important intermediate are to be understood. NNK diazonium ion is a well-known alkylating agent.

Research studies on injuries within the jail setting are few and far between. Perhaps the assumption that violent offending and violent victimization precede injury explains the limited attention. We suggest that there is a need for more empirical investigations that distinctly focus on jail-based injury.

Exercise and polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) supplementation independently improve lipid profiles. The influence of both exercise and PUFAs on lipids during pregnancy remains unknown. This study evaluated exercise, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) concentrations on lipids during pregnancy.

Already facing a persistent shortage of sexual assault nurse examiners (SANEs) to serve patients across the life span, residents with medical forensic needs were often being referred to other hospitals across the state for care or simply were not receiving medical forensic examinations because of lack of access to trained examiners. The Indiana SANE Training Project was established to evaluate the forensic nursing workforce throughout Indiana and work to expand access to qualified SANEs through training and collaboration with stakeholders, with a focus on rural and underserved areas of the state.
