Non-pharmaceutical interventions are needed to target the growing intergenerational cycle of obesity. We aimed to determine whether in utero exposure to different exercise doses during pregnancy directly reduces infant cellular and whole-body adiposity. Pregnant women completed ~24 weeks of supervised exercise training; for standardization of exercise analysis (frequency, intensity, time, and volume-FIT-V), metrics were assessed from 16 to 36 weeks.

Dental professionals as clinical educators: A transcendental inquiry into training needs.

Purpose: Clinical instructors are responsible for educating dental hygiene students in the patient care environment. While these instructors have experience in the dental field, they often do not have pedagogical training, or a background, related to education. The purpose of this qualitative, phenomenological study was to explore the experiences of dental professionals who transitioned from clinical practitioners to clinical instructors at one US dental hygiene program in 2022.

The relationship between self-efficacy and sustainable Lean management systems within the healthcare arena.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to improve the understanding of the social contexts of sustainable Lean culture in healthcare by examining self-efficacy (SE) as a fundamental construct related to the value of perceived readiness, prior education of Lean and the importance of leadership's system-level support.

Design/methodology/approach: A descriptive correlational study was conducted to identify the relationships between SE and Lean readiness factors, SE and prior Lean training, SE and clinical vs administrative roles and SE and perceived system-level support in a large health system.

Findings: There was a statistically significant difference in self-reported readiness to use Lean tools between individuals who had received Lean training during their academic education and those who had not; however, their level of education did not impact SE.

Regulatory properties of transcription factors with diverse mechanistic function.

Transcription factors (TFs) regulate the process of transcription through the modulation of different kinetic steps. Although models can often describe the observed transcriptional output of a measured gene, predicting a TFs role on a given promoter requires an understanding of how the TF alters each step of the transcription process. In this work, we use a simple model of transcription to assess the role of promoter identity, and the degree to which TFs alter binding of RNAP (stabilization) and initiation of transcription (acceleration) on three primary characteristics: the range of steady-state regulation, cell-to-cell variability in expression, and the dynamic response time of a regulated gene.

Are Functional Performance Test Scores Better When Compared to Baseline or Contralateral Limb Scores Following LE Injury in Adolescent Athletes?

Background: Functional performance tests (FPT) have been used with athletes following an injury to determine readiness to return-to-play (RTP), usually using limb symmetry indices to the contralateral limb or a baseline score. There is not a consensus as to which criterion scores are best compared.

Hypothesis/purpose: This study aimed to compare common functional performance test scores from injured athletes at the time of release to RTP to both preseason baseline scores and to the contralateral limb.

Judgments of sex trafficked women: The role of emotions.

This study examined how incidental emotions influence decisions to arrest or release sex trafficking survivors. Community members ( = 984) completed an autobiographical memory task invoking disgust, sympathy, or no emotion and read case facts from (2014) varying whether the survivor had a prior history of sex work and whether she came from a vulnerable or nonvulnerable background. Participants in the vulnerable condition believed that the survivor was less able to resist the trafficker's proposal.

In terrestrial vertebrates, the outermost layer of the skin, the stratum corneum (SC), provides a durable and flexible interface with the environment and is comprised of corneocytes embedded in lipids. However, the morphology and lipid composition of the SC varies throughout evolutionary history. Because crocodilians and birds phylogenetically bracket the Archosaurian clade, lipid composition in crocodilian SC may be compared with that of birds and other vertebrates to make inferences about broader phylogenetic patterns within Archosaurs while highlighting adaptations in vertebrate skin.

Meat consumption & positive mental health: A scoping review.

The objective of this scoping review was to examine the breadth of the existing literature on the relation between meat consumption or meat abstention and positive psychological functioning. In April 2022, we conducted a systematic search of online databases (PubMed, PsycINFO, CINAHL Plus, Medline, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science) for primary research examining positive psychological functioning in meat consumers and those who abstain from meat. Thirteen studies met the inclusion/exclusion criteria, representing 89,138 participants (54,413 females and 33,863 males) with 78,562 meat consumers and 10,148 meat abstainers (13-102 years) from multiple geographic regions.

Teleost fishes have evolved a number of sound-producing mechanisms, including vibrations of the swim bladder. In addition to sound production, the swim bladder also aids in sound reception. While the production and reception of sound by the swim bladder has been described separately in fishes, the extent to which it operates for both in a single species is unknown.

Use of Capture-Recapture Analysis to Estimate the Number of Agricultural Fatalities and Severe Agricultural Injuries in Indiana.

Conducting surveillance of agricultural injuries and fatalities in the United States has been an ongoing challenge, with many cases falling outside the criteria of national and local surveillance systems. In this research, capture-recapture analysis was used to estimate the number of fatal agricultural injuries in Indiana between 2016 and 2020. A limited analysis of non-fatal injuries is also provided.
