Opioid use disorder (OUD) has emerged as a significant public health crisis affecting individuals across all age groups. However, there remains a critical gap in understanding the specific nuances and challenges associated with OUD in pediatric populations. This article provides a comprehensive review of the epidemiology, definition of OUD, screening recommendations for OUD, and evidence-based management strategies for OUD in pediatric patients.

Acute agitation in youth is a challenging presentation to the emergency department. In many cases, however, youth can be behaviorally de-escalated using a combination of environmental modification and verbal de-escalation. In cases where additional strategies such as pharmacologic de-escalation or physical restraint are needed, using the least restrictive means possible, including the youth in the decision-making process, and providing options are important.

Methods: We used data from the UK Biobank ( = 14,415; 45 to 81 years) that included accelerometer-derived measures of SB and MVPA, and WMH volumes from MRI.
Results: Both MVPA and SB were associated with WMH volumes (β= -0.
Objective: To characterize presentation, disease course, and treatment of idiopathic subglottic stenosis (iSGS) in non-Caucasian women and compare this cohort to the predominantly female, Caucasian patient cohorts identified in the literature.
Study Design: Retrospective review. Results are compared to systematic review of demographics.

Asthma, the most common chronic disease in children, affects more than 4 million children in the United States, disproportionately affecting those who are economically disadvantaged and racial and ethnic minorities. Studies have shown that the racial and ethnic disparities in asthma outcomes can be largely explained by environmental, socioeconomic and other social determinants of health (SDoH). Utilizing new approaches to stratify disease severity and risk, which focus on the underlying SDoH that lead to asthma disparity, provides an opportunity to disentangle race and ethnicity from its confounding social determinants.

Background: Children hospitalized with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) frequently require intravenous vasoactive (IVV) support drugs and are at risk for adverse cardiovascular (ACV) outcomes. We wished to assess whether serial changes in B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels are associated with successful weaning off IVV support and/or prespecified ACV outcomes in children hospitalized with ADHF.
Methods And Results: Children hospitalized with ADHF from 2005 to 2021 at our institution were assessed for serial changes in BNP, weaning off of IVV support, and ACV outcomes.

Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) is a severe cutaneous adverse reaction characterised by fever, lymphadenopathy, morbilliform rash, haematologic abnormalities, and multiorgan involvement. Herein, we describe a 32-year-old female presenting with a 9-day history of facial oedema, cervical and inguinal lymphadenopathy, and a pruritic rash comprised of vesicles and pustules on her face, trunk, and extremities. Her only medications were valproate, which she had been taking for several years, and levetiracetam, which was initiated 41 days prior to rash onset.

Objective: Safe home tracheostomy care requires engagement and troubleshooting by patients, who may turn to online, AI-generated information sources. This study assessed the quality of ChatGPT responses to such queries.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, ChatGPT was prompted with 10 hypothetical tracheostomy care questions in three domains (complication management, self-care advice, and lifestyle adjustment).

A novel bioresorbable agent on the market is PuraGel® (3-D Matrix, Tokyo, Japan), a RADA-16 product that acts as a synthetic hemostatic and space-filling gel that promotes wound healing and prevents adhesion formation. Given the reported benefits of accelerated wound healing and scar tissue prevention, there are multiple otolaryngologic applications where RADA-16 might improve outcomes. Our study highlights current utilization and associated post-operative complications with this product.

Methods: Using data from the Aging, Demographics, and Memory Study (ADAMS), the Health Retirement Study (HRS), and traditional Medicare claims, we estimated the Clinical Dementia Rating Scale for ADAMS respondents and applied parameter estimates to predict dementia severity for HRS respondents with claims-based incident dementia diagnosis.
Results: Seventy percent of older adults received a dementia diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia (early stages).
Objective: Evaluate ergonomic differences of various modalities for performing middle ear surgery.
Study Design: Observational study.
Setting: Two academic tertiary care centers.
Full dechlorination of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) in a controlled manner to yield useful polymeric and chlorinated products is of great interest for the processing of PVC waste. Forming polyethylene (PE) without corrosive by-products would allow for a pre-treatment of PE wastes that are often contaminated with PVC. Herein, full dechlorination of PVC has been achieved generation of silylium ions , to furnish PE products.

The lncRNA tumor protein translationally controlled 1-antisense RNA 1 (TPT1-AS1) is known for its oncogenic role in various cancers, but its impact on the pathological progression of prostate cancer remains unclear. Our previous study demonstrated that the RE1-silencing transcription factor (REST) regulates neuroendocrine differentiation (NED) in prostate cancer (PCA) by derepressing specific long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), including TPT1-AS1. In this study, we revealed that TPT1-AS1 is overexpressed in LNCaP and C4-2B cells after IL-6 and enzalutamide treatment.

Despite significant research, the mechanistic nuances of unusual reactivity at the air-water interface, especially in microdroplets, remain elusive. The likely contributors include electric fields and partial solvation at the interface. To reveal these intricacies, we measure the frequency shift of a well-defined azide vibrational probe at the air-water interface, while independently controlling the surface charge density by introducing surfactants.

The development of novel nanosheet-based drug delivery systems requires a systematic understanding of the interactions between the drug and the nanosheet carrier under various physiological environments. In this work, we investigated electronic and quantum molecular descriptors of a SiC monolayer adsorbed with the anticancer drugs nitrosourea (NU) and carmustine (BCNU) using density functional theory (DFT). Our calculations revealed negative adsorption energies for both drugs, indicating a spontaneous and energetically favorable adsorption process.
