Background Persistent sensorimotor impairments after stroke can negatively impact quality of life. The hippocampus is vulnerable to poststroke secondary degeneration and is involved in sensorimotor behavior but has not been widely studied within the context of poststroke upper-limb sensorimotor impairment. We investigated associations between non-lesioned hippocampal volume and upper limb sensorimotor impairment in people with chronic stroke, hypothesizing that smaller ipsilesional hippocampal volumes would be associated with greater sensorimotor impairment.

The first total convergent synthesis of 4(),5()-oxido-17()-hydroxy-6(),8(),10(),13(),15(),19()-docosahexaenoic acid (1) is described. The reported synthesis led to confirmation of the native epoxydocosahexaenoic acid as the biosynthetic precursor of lipid mediators resolvin D3 and resolvin D4. These potent enzymatic products of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are important signaling molecules in the resolution of inflammation.

Objective: The objective of this study is to determine if Aquablation therapy can maintain its effectiveness in treating men with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with large-volume (80-150 cc) prostates at 3 years.

Subjects And Methods: One hundred one men with moderate-to-severe BPH symptoms and prostate volumes between 80 and 150 cc were enrolled in a prospective, nonrandomized, multicenter, international clinical trial in late 2017. Baseline, procedural, and follow-up parameters were recorded at baseline and scheduled postoperative visits.

Long life is standardly assumed to be associated with high stress tolerance. Previous work shows that the copepod breaks this rule, with longer life span under benign conditions found in males, the sex with lower stress tolerance. Here, we extended this previous work, raising animals from the same families in food-replete conditions until adulthood and then transferring them to food-limited conditions until all animals perished.

Despite the high mortality and disability associated with traumatic brain injury (TBI), effective pharmacologic treatments are lacking. Of emerging interest, bioactive lipids, including specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators of inflammation (SPMs), act to attenuate inflammation after injury resolution. The SPM lipidome may serve as a biomarker of disease and predictor of clinical outcomes, and the use of exogenous SPM administration represents a novel therapeutic strategy for TBI.

Introduction: Clinical trials for sporadic Alzheimer's disease generally use mixed models for repeated measures (MMRM) or, to a lesser degree, constrained longitudinal data analysis models (cLDA) as the analysis model with time since baseline as a categorical variable. Inferences using MMRM/cLDA focus on the between-group contrast at the pre-determined, end-of-study assessments, thus are less efficient (eg, less power).

Methods: The proportional cLDA (PcLDA) and proportional MMRM (pMMRM) with time as a categorical variable are proposed to use all the post-baseline data without the linearity assumption on disease progression.

Oxide dissolution is important for metal extraction from ores and has become an attractive route for the preparation of inks for thin film solution deposition; however, oxide dissolution is often kinetically challenging. While binary "alkahest" systems comprised of thiols and -donor species, such as amines, are known to dissolve a wide range of oxides, the mechanism of dissolution and identity of the resulting solute(s) remain unstudied. Here, we demonstrate facile dissolution of both bulk synthetic and natural mineral ZnO samples using an "alkahest" that operates reaction with thiophenol and 1-methylimidazole (MeIm) to give a single, pseudotetrahedral Zn(SPh)(MeIm) molecular solute identified by X-ray crystallography.

The importance of interprofessional collaborative practice has come into focus over the past decade as coordination and delivery of health care becomes increasingly complex. The need for students to acquire collaboration-building skills to prepare them to work effectively within diverse healthcare teams to improve patient outcomes is a goal of interprofessional education (IPE). Accrediting bodies across healthcare professions require IPE as part of a robust curriculum to build collaborative skill sets and create a practice ready workforce.

Background: Bariatric surgery produces weight loss in part by impacting appetite and eating behavior. Research suggests physical activity (PA) assists with regulation of appetite and eating during non-surgical weight loss, although whether PA carries similar benefits in the context of bariatric surgery is unknown.

Objective: Evaluate associations of moderate-to-vigorous intensity PA (MVPA) and sedentary time (ST) with appetite sensations (hunger [homeostatic/hedonic], satiety) and eating regulation behaviors (restraint, disinhibition) before and during the initial year following bariatric surgery.

Introduction: To describe the protocol and findings of the instrumental validation of three imaging-based biomarker kits selected by the MarkVCID consortium: free water (FW) and peak width of skeletonized mean diffusivity (PSMD), both derived from diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), and white matter hyperintensity (WMH) volume derived from fluid attenuation inversion recovery and T1-weighted imaging.

Methods: The instrumental validation of imaging-based biomarker kits included inter-rater reliability among participating sites, test-retest repeatability, and inter-scanner reproducibility across three types of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners using intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC).

Results: The three biomarkers demonstrated excellent inter-rater reliability (ICC >0.

Introduction: Allopregnanolone (ALLO), an endogenous neurosteroid, promoted neurogenesis and oligogenesis and restored cognitive function in animal models of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Based on these discovery research findings, we conducted a randomized-controlled phase 1b/2a multiple ascending dose trial of ALLO in persons with early AD (NCT02221622) to assess safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics. Exploratory imaging outcomes to determine whether ALLO impacted hippocampal structure, white matter integrity, and functional connectivity are reported.

Pediatric pain is challenging to assess and manage. Frequently underestimated in children, untreated pain may have consequences including increased fear, anxiety, and psychological issues. With the current opioid crisis, emergency physicians must be knowledgeable in both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches to address pain and anxiety in children that lead to enhanced patient cooperation and family satisfaction.
