Objective: To compare postoperative pain scores and opioid consumption in patients after transoral robotic surgery (TORS).
Study Design: Single institution retrospective cohort study.
Setting: TORS was performed at a single academic tertiary care center.
Objective: To assess the adverse event rate and operating cost of open bedside tracheostomy (OBT) at a community hospital. To present a model for creating an OBT program at a community hospital with a single surgeon.
Study Design: Retrospective case series pilot study.
Background: The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) in-person Oral Certification Examination (OCE) was halted abruptly in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The OCE was reconfigured to be administered in a virtual environment starting in December 2020.
Objectives: The purpose of this investigation was to determine whether there was sufficient validity and reliability evidence to support the continued use of the ABEM virtual Oral Examination (VOE) for certification decisions.
Introduction: World Trade Center (WTC) responders are experiencing a high risk of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia, though the etiology remains inadequately characterized. This study investigated whether WTC exposures and chronic post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) were correlated with plasma biomarkers characteristic of Alzheimer's disease (AD) neuropathology.
Methods: Eligible participants included WTC-exposed individuals with a baseline cognitive assessment and available plasma sample.

This is the protocol for a Campbell systematic review. The objectives are as follows: to produce a mega-map which identifies, maps and provides a visual interactive display, based on systematic reviews on all the main aspects of elder abuse in both the community and in institutions, such as residential and long-term care institutions.

Objectives: Diagnosis of angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma (AFH) can be challenging due to its variable histologic features and a lack of highly sensitive and/or specific immunohistochemical markers. The utility of TLE1 and BCOR as immunohistochemical markers for AFH is not known.
Methods: We examined the spectrum of histologic features of 36 AFHs, and studied the expression of both TLE1 and BCOR in AFH and its mimics by immunohistochemical staining.

Significant interest exists in the potential of electric field (EF) application to be developed into a technology to direct neuronal regeneration. In vitro, EFs were shown to direct the growth of retinal ganglion cell (RGC) axons, the neurons that make up the optic nerve. As larger EF gradients were shown to direct more efficient growth, investigations into the most effective stimulation strategies that can generate the greatest voltage gradient are needed before EF application can be developed into a technology to direct optic nerve regeneration in vivo.

Subjects/patients And Methods: We analysed data from men with localized PCa managed with radical prostatectomy (RP), radiation therapy (RT), or active surveillance (AS) in a prospective, population-based cohort study. We evaluated the association between BMI and management option with multivariable multinomial logistic regression analysis.

Background: Intracranial solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs), formerly known as hemangiopericytomas, are rare, aggressive mesenchymal extra-axial tumors typically treated via resection, often with preoperative embolization and postoperative radiation and/or antiangiogenic therapy. Although surgery confers a significant survival benefit, local recurrence and distant metastasis are not uncommon and may occur in a delayed fashion.
Observations: The authors describe the case of a 29-year-old male who initially presented with headache, visual disturbance, and ataxia, and was found to have a large right tentorial lesion with mass effect on surrounding structures.
Objective: To determine the safety and effectiveness of the middle cranial fossa (MCF) approach for spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid leak (sCSF-L) repair in class III obese patients. To also assess the need for prophylactic lumbar drain (LD) placement in this patient population.
Study Design: Retrospective cohort study.

Despite their rapid emergence as the dominant paradigm for electrochemical energy storage, the full promise of lithium-ion batteries is yet to be fully realized, partly because of challenges in adequately resolving common degradation mechanisms. Positive electrodes of Li-ion batteries store ions in interstitial sites based on redox reactions throughout their interior volume. However, variations in the local concentration of inserted Li-ions and inhomogeneous intercalation-induced structural transformations beget substantial stress.

Microseismic noise has been used for seismic velocity monitoring. However, such signals are dominated by low-frequency surface waves that are not ideal for detecting changes associated with small tectonic processes. Here we show that it is possible to extract stable, high-frequency body waves using seismic tremors generated by freight trains.

Patients And Methods: The study included 164 patients diagnosed with ≤2 pelvic lymph-node recurrence(s) of PCa documented on Ga-PSMA PET scan and treated with pelvic ± retroperitoneal sLND at 11 high-volume centres between 2012 and 2019. Pathologic findings were correlated to PSA values at time of sLND, categorized in early (<0.

Purpose: To review the current published literature on the utility of corneal hysteresis (CH) to assist the clinician in the diagnosis of glaucoma or in the assessment of risk for disease progression in existing glaucoma patients.
Methods: Searches of the peer-reviewed literature in the PubMed database were performed through July 2022. The abstracts of 423 identified articles were examined to exclude reviews and non-English articles.

Introduction: To evaluate the clinical validity of free water (FW), a diffusion tensor imaging-based biomarker kit proposed by the MarkVCID consortium, by investigating the association between mean FW (mFW) and executive function.
Methods: Baseline mFW was related to a baseline composite measure of executive function (EFC), adjusting for relevant covariates, in three MarkVCID sub-cohorts, and replicated in five, large, independent legacy cohorts. In addition, we tested whether baseline mFW predicted accelerated EFC score decline (mean follow-up time: 1.

Background Information on maternal and fetal outcomes of pregnancy in women with D-transposition of the great arteries is limited. We conducted a systematic literature review on pregnancies in women with transposition of the great arteries after atrial and arterial switch operations to better define maternal and fetal risk. Methods and Results A systematic review was performed on studies between 2000 and 2021 that identified 676 pregnancies in 444 women with transposition of the great arteries.

This has led to a high off-label utilization of devices in this vulnerable population. The Pediatric and Congenital Electrophysiology Society (PACES), the international organization representing pediatric and congenital heart disease arrhythmia specialists, developed a task force to comprehensively address device development issues relevant to pediatric patients with congenital arrhythmia.

Here, simple yttrium chloride salts (YClTHF and YCl·6HO), in combination with a bis(triphenylphosphoranylidene)ammonium chloride [PPN]Cl cocatalyst, are used as efficient and controlled catalysts for ten epoxide and anhydride combinations. In comparison to past literature, this simple salt system exhibits competitive turn-over frequencies (TOFs) for most monomer pairs.

Background: Surgery is a known risk factor for hospital-acquired venous thromboembolism (HA-VTE) in children.
Objectives: To assess whether the odds of HA-VTE differs across six anatomic sites of noncardiac surgery and to identify risk factors for HA-VTE in these children.
Methods: This was a multicenter, case-control study.
