Interleukin (IL)-33 is a key responder to intestinal injury and inflammation. In the colon, it is expressed by several cell populations, with the specific cellular source likely determining its role. The colonic epithelium expresses IL-33; however, the factors controlling its production and the specific epithelial lineage(s) expressing IL-33 are poorly understood.

Accurate documentation of state-level human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is required for public health planning and to inform corrective actions. To examine the representativeness of the California Immunization Registry, we compared the National Immunization Survey (NIS)-Teen, commercial HMOs in California, Medi-Cal, and California Immunization Registry data for HPV vaccine series completion. Our objectives were to evaluate the vaccine registries, compare and report their completeness, and make recommendations on how to improve and use these studies.

Medicare's Annual Wellness Visit (AWV) requires detection of cognitive impairment and may increase dementia diagnosis. We estimated the relationship between AWV receipt and incident dementia.

Methods: Adults ages 65 and over in the Understanding America Study, a nationally representative internet panel, were invited to participate in a short survey with three vignettes describing memory-related problems associated with normal aging, mild cognitive impairment, and mild dementia. Respondents were randomly assigned to vignettes about themselves or about an individual of the same age and asked whether the problems warranted follow-up discussion with a health-care provider.

Corticosteroids remain a crucial component of first-line therapy for immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) due to low cost, high initial response rates, and acceptable short-term tolerability. However, extended and recurrent use of corticosteroids is associated with substantial toxicity. Survey studies indicate that >95% of patients with ITP treated with corticosteroids report adverse effects, more than one-third of whom require reduction or discontinuation of treatment.

This study examined the frequency with which symptoms and laboratory findings suggesting MCA disorder occurred in patients diagnosed with POTS. Methods and Results Data were obtained from patients in whom symptoms and orthostatic testing were consistent with a POTS diagnosis.

Background/objective: We report the first analysis of an extended half-life recombinant factor IX, nonacog beta pegol (N9-GP), in previously untreated patients (PUPs) and minimally treated patients with hemophilia B.
Methods: Paradigm 6 (Safety and Efficacy of Nonacog Beta Pegol [N9-GP] in Previously Untreated Patients With Haemophilia B) is a multicenter, open-label, single-arm, phase 3 trial. Main inclusion criteria were males aged < 6 years, with hemophilia B with factor IX (FIX) activity ≤ 2%, who were previously untreated or with ≤ 3 exposure days (EDs) to FIX-containing products.
Background In a recent multicenter study of perinatal outcome in fetuses with Ebstein anomaly or tricuspid valve dysplasia, we found that one third of live-born patients died before hospital discharge. We sought to further describe postnatal management strategies and to define risk factors for neonatal mortality and circulatory outcome at discharge. Methods and Results This 23-center, retrospective study from 2005 to 2011 included 243 fetuses with Ebstein anomaly or tricuspid valve dysplasia.

Background: Little evidence is available for treatment of pediatric venous thromboembolism (VTE). Large randomized controlled trials are challenging in children. Current antithrombotic agents have many limitations, including nonoral administration and frequent monitoring.

We determined the relationships of depression, anger, anxiety, and chronic stress with incident AF in a multiethnic cohort of middle- and older-aged adults. Methods and Results This analysis included 6644 MESA (Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis) study participants who were free of AF at baseline.

The autonomic nervous system plays a major role in optimising function of the cardiovascular (CV) system, which in turn has important implications for CV health. Heart rate variability (HRV) is a measurable reflection of this balance between sympathetic and parasympathetic tone and has been used as a marker for cardiac status and predicting CV outcomes. Recently, the availability of commercially available heart rate (HR) monitoring systems has had important CV health implications and permits ambulatory CV monitoring on a scale not achievable with traditional cardiac diagnostics.

Metastatic penile squamous cell carcinoma (PSCC) is associated with dismal outcomes with median overall survival (OS) of 6-12 months in the first-line and <6 months in the salvage setting. Given the rarity of this disease, randomized trials are difficult. Prognostic risk models may assist in rational drug development by comparing observed outcomes in nonrandomized phase II studies and retrospective data vs.

Enterobacter sakazakii is an opportunistic pathogen associated with contaminated powdered infant formula and a rare cause of Gram-negative sepsis that can develop into meningitis and brain abscess formation in neonates. Bacterial pathogenesis remains to be fully elucidated. In this study, the host inflammatory response was evaluated following intracranial inoculation of Ent.
