The colonic epithelium expresses IL-33; however, the factors controlling its production and the specific epithelial lineage(s) expressing IL-33 are poorly understood.

Assessment of human papillomavirus vaccination rates of adolescents in California, 2018-2019.

Accurate documentation of state-level human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is required for public health planning and to inform corrective actions. To examine the representativeness of the California Immunization Registry, we compared the National Immunization Survey (NIS)-Teen, commercial HMOs in California, Medi-Cal, and California Immunization Registry data for HPV vaccine series completion. Our objectives were to evaluate the vaccine registries, compare and report their completeness, and make recommendations on how to improve and use these studies.

Introduction: Early detection of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias allows clinicians and patients to prepare for future needs and identify treatment options. Medicare's Annual Wellness Visit (AWV) requires detection of cognitive impairment and may increase dementia diagnosis. We estimated the relationship between AWV receipt and incident dementia.

Barriers to seeking care for memory problems: A vignette study.

Introduction: This study compares how older adults judge the need for follow-up care for memory-related problems when they are responding about themselves versus someone of the same age.

Methods: Adults ages 65 and over in the Understanding America Study, a nationally representative internet panel, were invited to participate in a short survey with three vignettes describing memory-related problems associated with normal aging, mild cognitive impairment, and mild dementia. Respondents were randomly assigned to vignettes about themselves or about an individual of the same age and asked whether the problems warranted follow-up discussion with a health-care provider.

Corticosteroid overuse in adults with immune thrombocytopenia: Cause for concern.

Corticosteroids remain a crucial component of first-line therapy for immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) due to low cost, high initial response rates, and acceptable short-term tolerability. However, extended and recurrent use of corticosteroids is associated with substantial toxicity. Survey studies indicate that >95% of patients with ITP treated with corticosteroids report adverse effects, more than one-third of whom require reduction or discontinuation of treatment.

Mast Cell Activation Disorder and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome: A Clinical Association.

Background Recently there has been increased interest in a possible association between mast cell activation (MCA) disorder and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). This study examined the frequency with which symptoms and laboratory findings suggesting MCA disorder occurred in patients diagnosed with POTS. Methods and Results Data were obtained from patients in whom symptoms and orthostatic testing were consistent with a POTS diagnosis.

Background/objective: We report the first analysis of an extended half-life recombinant factor IX, nonacog beta pegol (N9-GP), in previously untreated patients (PUPs) and minimally treated patients with hemophilia B.

Methods: Paradigm 6 (Safety and Efficacy of Nonacog Beta Pegol [N9-GP] in Previously Untreated Patients With Haemophilia B) is a multicenter, open-label, single-arm, phase 3 trial. Main inclusion criteria were males aged < 6 years, with hemophilia B with factor IX (FIX) activity ≤ 2%, who were previously untreated or with ≤ 3 exposure days (EDs) to FIX-containing products.

Risk Factors for Mortality and Circulatory Outcome Among Neonates Prenatally Diagnosed With Ebstein Anomaly or Tricuspid Valve Dysplasia: A Multicenter Study.

Background In a recent multicenter study of perinatal outcome in fetuses with Ebstein anomaly or tricuspid valve dysplasia, we found that one third of live-born patients died before hospital discharge. We sought to further describe postnatal management strategies and to define risk factors for neonatal mortality and circulatory outcome at discharge. Methods and Results This 23-center, retrospective study from 2005 to 2011 included 243 fetuses with Ebstein anomaly or tricuspid valve dysplasia.

The Edoxaban Hokusai VTE PEDIATRICS Study: An open-label, multicenter, randomized study of edoxaban for pediatric venous thromboembolic disease.

Background: Little evidence is available for treatment of pediatric venous thromboembolism (VTE). Large randomized controlled trials are challenging in children. Current antithrombotic agents have many limitations, including nonoral administration and frequent monitoring.
