Retromer prevents the destruction of numerous receptors by recycling them from endosomes to the Golgi network or plasma membrane. This enables retromer to fine-tune the activity of many signaling pathways in parallel. However, the mechanism(s) by which retromer function adapts to environmental fluctuations such as nutrient withdrawal and how this affects the fate of its cargoes remains incompletely understood.

Receptor Recycling by Retromer.

Mol Cell Biol

July 2023

Lysosomal Health in Ageing, Lifelong Health, South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.

The highly conserved retromer complex controls the fate of hundreds of receptors that pass through the endolysosomal system and is a central regulatory node for diverse metabolic programs. More than 20 years ago, retromer was discovered as an essential regulator of endosome-to-Golgi transport in yeast; since then, significant progress has been made to characterize how metazoan retromer components assemble to enable its engagement with endosomal membranes, where it sorts cargo receptors from endosomes to the -Golgi network or plasma membrane through recognition of sorting motifs in their cytoplasmic tails. In this review, we examine retromer regulation by exploring its assembled structure with an emphasis on how a range of adaptor proteins shape the process of receptor trafficking.

Behavioral community psychology in the Amazon rainforest: Suggestions for when behavior analysts meet alterity.

Behav Soc Issues

September 2022

Department of Psychology, Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro (UFTM), Rua Vigário Carlos, 100, sala 525, Nossa Senhora da Abadia, Uberaba, MG CEP: 38025-350 Brazil.

The present paper aimed to discuss and interpret methodological issues and contributions arising mainly from professional field work conducted by a behavior analyst working as a behavioral community psychologist in the Amazon rainforest, in northern Brazil. We looked at such a professional's day-to-day circumstances and challenges within a semi-isolated Indigenous community, and systematized impressions and implications for practice with diverse verbal communities and social groups. We believe that looking at experience with those specific social contexts enables us to critically examine behavior analysis community practice more generally.

Self-expanding metal stents (SEMSs) are currently the gold standard for the localised management of malignant gastrointestinal (GI) stenosis and/or obstructions. Despite encouraging clinical success, in-stent restenosis caused by tumour growth is a significant challenge. Incorporating chemotherapeutic drugs into GI stents is an emerging strategy to provide localised and sustained release of drugs to intestinal malignant tissues to prevent tumour growth.

Integrated reporting is a voluntary reporting approach that has the potential to transform corporate reporting. This reporting approach involves integrating financial information with sustainability information and requires a coordinated approach by all organisational departments to address social and environmental issues affecting an organisation, a process referred to as integrated thinking. This paper builds on existing research on public sector organisations and explores the current status and motivations for integrated reporting by Australian local councils and the resulting potential organisational change leading to integrated thinking.

Introduction: Psoriasis is identified as an inflammatory, chronic, auto-immune disease requiring long-term treatment, imposing an unnecessary burden on the patient. A significant impediment for the treatment of dermatological disorders via transdermal route is the inability of drug molecules to cross the stratum corneum (SC), as the larger size of drug molecules inhibits them to pervade into the skin, thus hampering their absorption. Some drugs exhibit systemic side-effects, which curbs patient compliance, resulting in treatment discontinuation.

Stents are currently the primary choice for the treatment of both vascular and non-vascular occlusions and/or stenosis. Despite the proven history of clinical safety and efficacy, the benefit of traditional vascular or non-vascular stenting is often limited by in-stent restenosis, resulting in failure of existing stent or reintervention by use of another stent. Coronary drug-eluting stents (DESs) significantly reduce restenosis of vascular stents and have revolutionised the percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) treatment in coronary stenting patients.

Understanding the transport behaviour of new and emerging materials such as engineered nanoparticles (ENPs) is vital for the accurate assessment of their functionality and fate in environmental systems. Predicting ENP mobility in soil systems based on common attributes of either soil or ENPs is of significant interest as an alternative to conducting laborious and time consuming column experiments. Thus this study investigates the importance of different soil properties and experimental conditions on titanium dioxide nanoparticles (nTiO) mobility in real soil media and also evaluates four different modelling approaches including Multiple Linear Regression (MLR), Classification and Regression Tree (CART), Random Forest (RF) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for predicting nTiO mobility in soil media.
