Racemic ethyl 3,4-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzoxazine-2-carboxylate is a key synthon for the design of promising therapeutic drugs. It is mainly synthesized from racemic ethyl 2,3-dibromopropionate and 2-aminophenol in presence of K CO in refluxed acetone. Unfortunately, synthesis of (R)- and (S)-enantiomers using the enantioselective version of this reaction, which should normally be performed with a double S 2 mechanism, is unsuitable due to a racemization process involving the dehydrobromination of enantiopure ethyl 2,3-dibromopropionate into ethyl 2-bromoacrylate.

The crucial role of phosphate (Pi) for plant alongside the expected depletion of non-renewable phosphate rock have created an urgent need for phosphate-efficient rice varieties. In this study, 157 greenhouse-grown Vietnamese rice landraces were treated under Pi-deficient conditions to discover the genotypic variation among biochemical traits, including relative efficiency of phosphorus use (REP), relative root to shoot weight ratio (RRSR), relative physiological phosphate use efficiency (RPPUE), and relative phosphate uptake efficiency (RPUpE). Plants were grown in Yoshida nutrient media with either a full (320 μM) or a low Pi supply (10 μM) over six weeks.

In the present work, we reported the fabrication of a novel electrochemical sensing platform to detect 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) by using a copper benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate-graphene oxide (Cu-BTC/GO) composite. The sensor was prepared by drop-casting Cu-BTC/GO suspension onto the electrode surface followed by electrochemical reduction, leading to the generation of an electrochemically reduced graphene oxide network (ErGO). By combining the large specific area of the Cu-BTC matrix with the electrical percolation from the graphene network, the number of accessible reaction sites was strongly increased, which consequently improved the detection performance.

Nowadays, sensor devices are developing fast. It is therefore critical, at a time when the availability and recyclability of materials are, along with acceptability from the consumers, among the most important criteria used by industrials before pushing a device to market, to review the most recent advances related to functional electronic materials, substrates or packaging materials with natural origins and/or presenting good recyclability. This review proposes, in the first section, passive materials used as substrates, supporting matrixes or packaging, whether organic or inorganic, then active materials such as conductors or semiconductors.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) that is wreaking havoc on worldwide public health and economies has heightened awareness about the lack of effective antiviral treatments for human coronaviruses (CoVs). Many current antivirals, notably nucleoside analogs (NAs), exert their effect by incorporation into viral genomes and subsequent disruption of viral replication and fidelity. The development of anti-CoV drugs has long been hindered by the capacity of CoVs to proofread and remove mismatched nucleotides during genome replication and transcription.

Racemic ethyl 2,3-dibromopropionate, commercially available at low price, is a key intermediate used in the synthesis of several heterocycle fragments, which are present in many biologically active compounds. Surprisingly, the enantiomers are not commercially available and have never been described in the literature. In this work, we undertook two different strategies to obtain these enantiomers, which are enantioselective synthesis and preparative HPLC enantioseparation of commercially available racemate on multigram scale.

In this work, we successfully demonstrated the facile fabrication of highly flexible and floatable CuO/rGO on Vietnamese traditional paper (VTP) for the solar-light-driven photocatalytic degradation of the antibiotic ciprofloxacin. The catalyst membrane was prepared by the green reduction of both Cu(OH) to CuO nanoparticles and graphene oxide to reduced graphene oxide. VTP has a fibrous structure with tiny fibers connected like a spider web and multiple layers in the form of a multidimensional array, which functions as a flexible and highly porous supporter to the catalyst.

Among organic thin film transistors (OTFTs), Organic Electrochemical Transistors (OECTs) have been extensively used for cell monitoring while Electrolyte-Gated Organic Field-Effect Transistors (EGOFETs) have never been described for that kind of application. However, EGOFETs are well adapted for this use because, as well as OECTs, they can operate directly in aqueous solutions such as cells culture media, but they offer much a higher on/off ratio which could lead to better sensitivity. As a proof of concept, we propose herein to monitor the photosynthetic activity of a cyanobacterium (Anabaena flos-aquae) contained within an EGOFET's electrolyte.

In this work, we have combined nanosphere lithography with electrochemical reduction of aryldiazonium salts to elaborate nanostructured mixed layers of organic materials. The strategy consists first in the deposition of a close-packed hexagonal monolayer of microbeads used as a mask for the electroreduction of a first aryldiazonium salt. After removing the beads, an ultrathin organic layer with holes remains.

Background: Due to their sessile life style, plant survival is dependent on the ability to build up fast and highly adapted responses to environmental stresses by modulating defense response and organ growth. The phytohormone jasmonate plays an essential role in regulating these plant responses to stress.
Results: To assess variation of plant growth responses and identify genetic determinants associated to JA treatment, we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) using an original panel of Vietnamese rice accessions.

Text mining has become an important research method in biology, with its original purpose to extract biological entities, such as genes, proteins and phenotypic traits, to extend knowledge from scientific papers. However, few thorough studies on text mining and application development, for plant molecular biology data, have been performed, especially for rice, resulting in a lack of datasets available to solve named-entity recognition tasks for this species. Since there are rare benchmarks available for rice, we faced various difficulties in exploiting advanced machine learning methods for accurate analysis of the rice literature.
