Monodisperse nanoparticles of biodegradable polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) polymers, copolymers of 3-hydroxybutyrate (3HB) and 4-hydroxybutyrate (4HB), are synthesized using a membrane-assisted emulsion encapsulation and evaporation process for biomedical resorbable adhesives. The precise control over the diameter of these PHA particles, ranging from 100 nm to 8 μm, is achieved by adjusting the diameter of emulsion or the PHA concentration. Mechanical properties of the particles can be tailored based on the 3HB to 4HB ratio and molecular weight, primarily influenced by the level of crystallinity.

Ischemic stroke is a vascular disease that may cause cognitive and behavioral abnormalities. This study aims to assess abnormal brain function in ischemic stroke patients using the percent amplitude of fluctuation (PerAF) method and further explore the feasibility of PerAF as an imaging biomarker for investigating ischemic stroke pathophysiology mechanisms. Sixteen ischemic stroke patients and 22 healthy controls (HCs) underwent resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) scanning, and the resulting data were analyzed using PerAF.

Applications of zinc-air batteries are partially limited by the slow kinetics of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR); Thus, developing effective strategies to address the compatibility issue between performance and stability is crucial, yet it remains a significant challenge. Here, we propose an in situ gas etching-thermal assembly strategy with an in situ-grown graphene-like shell that will favor Mn anchoring. In this work, a bio-based material (CGP) is obtained by combing chitosan, gelatin and polyvinyl alcohol through a simple solution mixing to simultaneously address polylactic acid film (PLA)' flammability and poor barrier, toughness and antibacterial properties by soaking. The results of open fire testing show that modified PLA films can effectively prolong the combustion time, improve the thermal stability and reduce the release of heat in the cone calorimeter test. For the PLA sample after soaking for 5 times (PLA-5) in particular, it can reduce the peak heat release rate (pHRR) and total heat release (THR) values to 85.

The microorganisms of the pit mud (PM) of Nongxiangxing baijiu (NXXB) have an important role in the synthesis of flavor substances, and they determine attributes and quality of baijiu. Herein, we utilize metagenomics and genome-scale metabolic models (GSMMs) to investigate the microbial composition, metabolic functions in PM microbiota, as well as to identify microorganisms and communities linked to flavor compounds. Metagenomic data revealed that the most prevalent assembly of bacteria and archaea was Proteiniphilum, Caproicibacterium, Petrimonas, Lactobacillus, Clostridium, Aminobacterium, Syntrophomonas, Methanobacterium, Methanoculleus, and Methanosarcina.

By using first principles calculations, we theoretically investigate the electronic structures and the interfacial and optical properties of the two-dimensional tellurene (Te)-gallium arsenide (GaAs) van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs), , α-Te/GaAs and γ-Te/GaAs, formed using Te and GaAs monolayers. It has been demonstrated that, the semiconductor-semiconductor contacted α-Te/GaAs vdWH exhibits a type-II band alignment with a direct band gap of 0.28 eV while the metal-semiconductor contacted γ-Te/GaAs vdWH has a p-type Schottky contact with a Schottky barrier height (SBH) of 0.

Problems with minced pork include water release and low gel strength. This study aimed to investigate the effect of treatments with κ-carrageenan (κ-CAR), egg white powder (EWP), wheat gluten (WG), soy isolate protein (SPI), and a combination of these treatments on the gel properties and protein structures of minced pork. The discovery of novel and highly effective P-gp inhibitors is considered to be an effective strategy for overcoming tumor drug resistance. In this paper, a phenotypic screening a self-constructed synthetic methodology-based library identified a new class of tricyclic spiroindole derivatives with excellent tumor multidrug resistance reversal activity.
