Rapid, sensitive, and accurate detection of heavy metal ions is significant for human health and ecological security. Herein, a novel single-stranded DNA with poly(thymidine) tail is tactfully designed as template to synthesize dual-emission silver nanoclusters (ssDNA-AgNCs). The obtained AgNCs simultaneously emit red and green fluorescence, and the red emission can be selectively quenched by Hg, meanwhile the green emission of AgNCs increases synchronously.

Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) composed of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and polymer matrixes have garnered significant attention due to their potential to overcome the permeability-selectivity trade-off inherent in polymeric membranes. Nevertheless, the application and industrial production of MOF-based MMMs have been hindered by issues such as poor interfacial compatibility and cumbersome fabrication processes. Recently, strategies have emerged as promising approaches for fabricating MOF-based MMMs, offering enhanced interfacial compatibility between MOF fillers and polymers, as well as a simplified construction process.

A novel approach for the synthesis of pyrone and indanone derivatives utilizing Fe(III)-catalyzed reductive radical ring expansion of olefins and cyclopropenone has been proposed. The preliminary mechanism study shows that the alkyl radical is formed by hydrogen atom transfer, which can open the tension ring and then generate the intermediate. There are two paths for the intermediate: when there is a hydroxyl group at the β-position of the olefin, the reaction produces pyrones, and otherwise 1-indanone is generated.

In this work, the coprecipitation approach was successfully used to create Mg-Al hydrotalcite-like inhibitors modified with varying amounts of Zn, and their characteristics were assessed. The findings indicate that the flame retardancy of Mg-Al hydrotalcite (MgAl-LDHs) is not significantly affected by Zn content. By adding MgAl-LDHs, the temperature at which the exothermic reaction started to occur was raised from 146.

Cellulose-based paper is inherently poor in hydrophobicity and mechanical strength, limiting its practical applications in daily life such as packaging materials, water-resistant labels, and disposable tableware. This study aimed to develop an effective and eco-friendly strategy to address these limitations by enhancing the hydrophobicity and mechanical properties of cellulose paper. To achieve this, an internal sizing agent was prepared by combining (3-glycidoxypropyl) trimethoxy (GPS) with natural rosin.

The production of expressive molecular representations with scarce labeled data is challenging for AI-driven drug discovery. Mainstream studies often follow a pipeline that pre-trains a specific molecular encoder and then fine-tunes it. However, the significant challenges of these methods are (1) neglecting the propagation of diverse information within molecules and (2) the absence of knowledge and chemical constraints in the pre-training strategy.

Chemical fumigation can effectively inhibit the occurrence of soil-borne diseases; however, this approach can negatively affect the structure of the soil microbial community. The combination of soil fumigant and organic fertilizer application thus represents a widely adopted strategy in agricultural practice. Traditional Chinese medicine residue (TCMR) is a high-quality organic fertilizer; however, the impact of post-fumigation TCMR application on keystone taxa and their functional traits remains uncertain.

Anode-less sodium metal batteries (SMBs) suffer from the formation of Na dendrites and inactive Na on an anode substrate though showing advantages of high energy densities and low costs. Herein, N,O co-doped carbon spheres (NOCS), which are synthesized via a scalable polymerization and pyrolysis method, are employed as a thin and stable sodiophillic nucleation layer on the Cu foil. Combined with electrochemical measurements, Na deposition morphology observations and density functional theory calculations, it is revealed that the introduced N and O heteroatoms can greatly enhance the adsorption of Na on the carbon substrate and reduce the nucleation overpotential, thus forming sufficient seeding sites and guiding homogeneous Na deposition.
