Coronary artery calcification (CAC) is a key marker of coronary artery disease (CAD) but is often underreported in cancer patients undergoing non-gated CT or PET/CT scans. Traditional CAC assessment requires gated CT scans, leading to increased radiation exposure and the need for specialized personnel. This study aims to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) method to automatically detect CAC from non-gated, freely-breathing, low-dose CT images obtained from positron emission tomography/computed tomography scans.

In response to the problem of noise interference in the knock detection signal received by the pickup in the ceramic sheet knock non-destructive testing, a noise removal method is proposed based on the improved secretary bird optimization algorithm (ISBOA) optimized variational mode decomposition (VMD) combined with wavelet thresholding. First, the secretary bird optimization algorithm is improved by using the Newton-Raphson search rule and smooth exploitation variation strategy. Second, the ISBOA is used to select the key parameters in the VMD.

Inducing multiple neurobehavioural and neurochemical deficits, olfactory bulbectomy (OBX) has been developed as a rodent model of depression with potential for antidepressant drug screening. However, the generality of this model in other vertebrate taxa remains poorly understood. A small freshwater teleost fish, the zebrafish (Danio rerio), is rapidly becoming a common model species in neuroscience research.

Intracellular spatiotemporal chemical heterogeneities with controlled properties are essential for life. However, creating these heterogeneities artificially is challenging. In this study, we used both acid- and base-producing enzymatic reactions simultaneously and demonstrated that the execution of these reactions in the presence of audible sound can effectively create spatiotemporally ordered pH domains in a solution.

detection of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is critical for understanding its complex physiological and pathological roles. Fluorescent probes, known for their sensitivity and selectivity, are the preferred approach for such detections. Anthracene carboxyimide, an analog of naphthalimide, offers extended excitation and emission wavelengths, making it an excellent candidate for developing new fluorescent probes that address the limitations of naphthalimide.

The tunable electronic band structure of a AlP/CsBiICl van der Waals heterostructure induced by an electric field: a first-principles study.

Phys Chem Chem Phys

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Hunan Province on Information Photonics and Freespace Optical Communications, School of Physics and Electronics Science, Hunan Institute of Science and Technology, Yueyang 414006, People's Republic of China.

Constructing van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs) has emerged as an attractive strategy to combine and enhance the optoelectronic properties of stacked materials. Herein, by means of first-principles calculations, we investigate the geometric and electronic structures of the AlP/CsBiICl vdWH as well as its tunable band structure an external electric field. The AlP/CsBiICl vdWH is structurally and thermodynamically stable due to the low binding energy and the small energy fluctuation at room temperature.

Artificial dimension control has been playing a vital role in electronic structure manipulation and properties generation. However, systematic investigations into the dimensional regulation, such as transformation from two-dimensional (2D) materials to well-controlled one-dimensional (1D) ribbons, remain insufficient via molecular beam epitaxy. Here, high-quality ultranarrow zigzag CuTe nanoribbons are atomically precisely prepared via the dimensional regulation induced by adjusting the Te chemical potential, utilizing CuSe monolayer as the starting 2D template.

Inefficient endosomal escape has been regarded as the main bottleneck for intracellular nucleic acid delivery. While most research efforts have been spent on designing various nano-sized particles, we took a different path here, investigating micron-sized carriers for direct cytosol entry. Using the spontaneous co-assembly of mRNA and the designer 27 amino acid oligopeptide named pepMAX2, micron-sized co-assemblies were obtained with various sizes by altering the concentration of NaCl salt and time for pre-incubation.
