It is clear that the stress response differs between females and males. Moreover, the nucleus accumbens shell is considered a critical area in the brain's response to stress. In the present study we investigate the effect of the transient inactivation of the NAc shell on the metabolic and hormonal disturbance induced by acute stress in female rats.

There is a near correlation between N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors in the modulation of learning and memory in the basolateral amygdala (BLA). In this study, we investigated the involvement of GABAA receptors in the BLA in amnesia induced by (+)-MK-801, a noncompetitive antagonist of NMDA receptors, in male Wistar rats. After guide cannulae were bilaterally placed in the BLA, animals were trained in a step-through type passive avoidance task and then tested 24h after training to measure memory retrieval and locomotor activity.

The present study evaluates the roles of serotonergic receptors of the medial septum on amnesia induced by arachidonylcyclopropylamide (ACPA; as selective cannabinoid CB1 receptor agonist) in adult male Wistar rats. Cannulae were implanted in the medial septum of the brain of the rats. The animals were trained in a passive avoidance learning apparatus, and were tested 24 hours after training for step-through latency.
