Objective: To evaluate the effect of staining, glazing, and polishing of stabilized zirconia with 5 mol% of yttrium oxide (5Y-TZP) on the wear behavior of opposing tooth enamel.
Materials And Methods: The plane specimens of 5Y-TZP were divided into 6 groups (n = 10), according to surface treatment: as sintered, staining, glazing, polishing, staining followed by glazing, and staining followed by polishing, and positioned against tooth enamel during the two-body wear test (20 N, 2 Hz, until completing 300,000 cycles). The wear rates of tooth enamel were evaluated using a profile projector and a digital pachymeter as a measure of vertical height loss.

Currently available conventional breeding methods for broilers often result in impaired biomechanics and skeletal growth for the animals. The addition of environmental enrichment is an alternative which can help alleviate these effects. This study examines the effects of environmental enrichment on biomechanics, morphometry, and bone mass of broilers across various age groups.

Drug repurposing, also known as drug repositioning, involves identifying new applications for drugs whose effects in a disease are already established. Doxycycline, a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the tetracycline class, has demonstrated potential activity against neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. However, despite its promise, the repurposed use of doxycycline encounters challenges in reaching the brain in adequate concentrations to exert its effects.

Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD), a complication following procedures such as orthopedic surgery, is associated with a worsened prognosis, especially in the elderly population. Several mechanisms have been proposed for communication between the immune system and the brain after surgery. In an experimental tibial fracture (TF) model, we aimed to understand the role of the NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) on oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction as mechanisms underlying POCD in aged and adult rats.

Background: Gestational weight gain (GWG) is a critical factor influencing maternal and fetal health. Excessive or insufficient GWG can lead to various complications, including gestational diabetes, hypertension, cesarean delivery, low birth weight, and preterm birth. This study aims to develop and evaluate machine learning models to predict GWG categories: below, within, or above recommended guidelines.

Introduction: The large mixture of races in Brazil gives the nose its distinctive composition, which makes rhinoplasty difficult for these patients. Every patient should have their anatomy thoroughly examined on an individual basis, as there is no unique strategy that works for all situations.
Methodology: This is a narrative overview of the last 10 years' worth of literature that describes the ethnic traits of each nose, with a particular emphasis on the Brazilian nose, and talks about the major surgical approaches that can be applied in these situations.

Natural rubber latex membrane (NRL) is a biocompatible macromolecule that stimulates angiogenesis and promotes bone repair. Similarly, β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) is an osteoconductive and osteoinductive bioceramic widely used as a bone substitute. Here, we investigated the combined use of these biomaterials in the guided bone regeneration process for calvarial defects in rats.

Intra-articular fractures of the distal radius require anatomical reduction and stable fixation. When the fracture encompasses the articular facet of the bone, maintaining the reduction is challenging due to the fragment's size and high instability. While specific implants have been developed to fix this fragment, their effectives have been limited.

Natural product (NP) databases are crucial tools in computer-aided drug design (CADD). Over the past decade, there has been a worldwide effort to assemble information regarding natural products (NPs) isolated and characterized in certain geographical regions. In 2023, it was published LANaPDB, and to our knowledge, this is the first attempt to gather and standardize all the NP databases of Latin America.

Graphene oxide (GO) undergoes multiple transformations when introduced to biological and environmental media. GO surface favors the adsorption of biomolecules through different types of interaction mechanisms, modulating the biological effects of the material. In this study, we investigated the interaction of GO with tannic acid (TA) and its consequences for GO toxicity.

To evaluate whether the presence of proteinuria, although no longer mandatory in the revised diagnostic criteria, results in worse maternal and fetal outcomes in preeclampsia (PE). A retrospective cohort study was conducted, analyzing data from pregnant patients diagnosed with PE between January 2015 and December 2019 at a tertiary care center in Brazil. Ethical approval was obtained, and the patient records were reviewed to assess maternal and perinatal outcomes based on the revised diagnostic criteria by the College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, focusing on the presence or absence of proteinuria.

The aim of this study was to compare the kinematics of reaching tasks at different speeds between children with neonatal brachial plexus palsy (NBPP) and unaffected controls. This cross-sectional study included thirteen children with NBPP (10 ± 2 years old, of which six had upper Erb's palsy and seven had extended Erb's palsy) matched for age and sex with thirteen unaffected controls. Kinematic data were acquired using a Motion Monitor unit with a 3D motion tracking electromagnetic system (Liberty, Polhemus).

Objective: Herein, we investigate the potential analgesic effect of a newly synthesized chalcone-derived apocynin in a neurogenic pain model.
Methods: Molecular docking was used to foretell the apocynin binding features and dynamics with the TRPV1 channel, and the activity was tested in vitro, using transfected HEK 293T cells with the rat TRPV1 receptor. The analgesic effect of apocynin was investigated using a capsaicin-induced pain model.

Senescence impairs liver physiology, mitochondrial function and circadian regulation, resulting in systemic metabolic dysregulation. Given the limited research on the effects of combined exercise on an ageing liver, this study aimed to evaluate its impact on liver metabolism, circadian rhythms and mitochondrial function in senescence-accelerated mouse-prone 8 (SAMP8) and senescence-accelerated mouse-resistant 1 (SAMR1) mice. Histological, reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and immunoblotting analyses were conducted, supplemented by transcriptomic data sets and AML12 hepatocyte studies.
