Background And Aim: Among the most common symptoms of COVID-19 is taste dysfunction, which has a ranging clinical presentation. As well as its pathophysiology remains to be unclear, there is not enough information about the efficacy and safety of the available treatments. This study aims to report a series of cases using PBMT for the management of COVID-19-related taste impairment.

Nanocomposite scaffolds based on the combination of polymeric nanofibers with nanohydroxyapatite are a promising approach within tissue engineering. With this strategy, it is possible to synthesize nanobiomaterials that combine the well-known benefits and advantages of polymer-based nanofibers with the osteointegrative, osteoinductive, and osteoconductive properties of nanohydroxyapatite, generating scaffolds with great potential for applications in regenerative medicine, especially as support for bone growth and regeneration. However, as efficiently incorporating nanohydroxyapatite into polymeric nanofibers is still a challenge, new methodologies have emerged for this purpose, such as electrodeposition, a fast, low-cost, adjustable, and reproducible technique capable of depositing coatings of nanohydroxyapatite on the outside of fibers, to improve scaffold bioactivity and cell-biomaterial interactions.

Background: Ovariohysterectomy (OH) is one of the most frequent elective surgical procedures in routine veterinary practice. is a well-known medicine in phytotherapy, with proven analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, healing, antioxidant and immunomodulatory activity. However, there is still a shortage of studies on the action and effects of the homeopathic formulation of the medicine on animals.

Purpose: Direct peritoneal resuscitation (DPR) has been used to help preserve microcirculation by reversing vasoconstriction and hypoperfusion associated with the pathophysiological process of shock, which can occur despite appropriate intravenous resuscitation. This approach depends on infusing a hyperosmolar solution intraperitoneally via a percutaneous catheter with the tip ending near the pelvis or the root of the mesentery. The abdomen is usually left open with a negative pressure abdominal dressing to continuously evacuate the infused dialysate.

Olfactory dysfunction is commonly seen in COVID-19 patients; however, little is known about the pathophysiology and management. The present study aimed to report a series of cases in which three protocols of intranasal photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) were used for COVID-19-related olfactory dysfunction. Irrespective of the PBMT protocol, olfaction recovery was noted in all cases but with varying degrees of improvement.

Although the treatment and management options for perianal abscess vary considerably, most cases require incision and drainage. Whatever the clinical approach selected, it is imperative to monitor patients to identify postoperative signs and symptoms which suggest treatment failure or further complications, such as sepsis, recurrent abscess, and fistula formation. Considering the debate on the role of postoperative antibiotic therapy for patients with perianal abscess and the significant discomfort caused by the infection, the present study aimed to report a clinical case in which antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) and photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) were used after incision and drainage of a simple perianal abscess.

This study was designed to evaluate the accuracy of a novel computer-designed and selectively laser sintered surgical guide for flapless dental implant placement in the edentulous jaw. Fifty dental implants were placed in 11 patients with at least 1 totally edentulous jaw. Initially, cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) was performed in each patient to define the virtual position of the dental implants based on the assessment of bone availability and the proposed dental prosthesis.

Severe bone atrophies are considered a challenge in the rehabilitation process. In clinical situations involving excessive vertical bone deficiency in edentulous mandibles, there is a risk of fracture and frequently the need for an approach that involves highly complex procedures. In this context, simultaneous three-dimensional bone reconstruction associated with rigid fixation is a viable alternative to optimize longevity and avoid failures in these cases.

Sheep are intermediate hosts of the protozoon Toxoplasma gondii, a zoonotic parasite that that may cause abortion and reproductive losses in this species. Previous studies have shown that its prevalence is high in sheep herds in Brazil, but no information from the state of Espírito Santo was available. The aim of this study was to improve the epidemiological data in different regions of this state by analyzing occurrences of anti-T.

Currently, oxygen supply for in vitro cell culture is one of the major challenges in tissue engineering, especially in three-dimensional (3D) structures, such as polymeric hydrogels, because oxygen is an essential element for cells survival. In this context, oxygen levels must be maintained in articular cartilage to promote the differentiation, viability, and proliferation of chondrocytes due to the low level of oxygen presence in this region. Although some technologies employ oxygen-generating materials to add sufficient oxygen levels, the limitations and challenges of current technologies include the lack of controlled, sustained, and prolonged release of the oxygen.

Background: Prurigo of pregnancy (PP), a specific pregnancy dermatosis, has been associated with atopic background in the patient and/or the patient's family. However, this association was not validated in some studies, and cases without atopic background have been reported.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical features of PP not related to atopic background and search for comorbid conditions in medical and obstetric records.

In hematopoietic cell transplants (HCT) patients, opportunistic fungal infections - especially candidiasis - are typical and, due to the immunosuppressed condition, severe and fatal clinical conditions may occur. Many antifungal agents are used for treating candidiasis; however, there are non-responsive, drug-resistant cases in which alternative antimicrobial therapies are strongly needed. The present study aimed to report a clinical case in which antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) was used for extensive oral pseudomembranous candidiasis not responsive to micafungin in a patient undergoing HCT.

Oral lesions related to the novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been increasingly described; however, clinical and epidemiological information is still scant. Although a diversity of therapeutic strategies for the management of these lesions are present in the literature, one can note a lack of standardization and doubtful effectiveness. Thus, the present study aimed to report a series of cases in which a combination of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) and photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) was used for orofacial lesions in patients suffering from COVID-19.

Background: Dietary guidelines recommend limiting red meat intake because it is a major source of medium- and long-chain SFAs and is presumed to increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Evidence of an association between unprocessed red meat intake and CVD is inconsistent.
Objective: The study aimed to assess the association of unprocessed red meat, poultry, and processed meat intake with mortality and major CVD.

Likely as in other viral respiratory diseases, SARS-CoV-2 elicit a local immune response, which includes production and releasing of both cytokines and secretory immunoglobulin (SIgA). Therefore, in this study, we investigated the levels of specific-SIgA for SARS-CoV-2 and cytokines in the airways mucosa 37 patients who were suspected of COVID-19. According to the RT-PCR results, the patients were separated into three groups: negative for COVID-19 and other viruses (NEGS, = 5); negative for COVID-19 but positive for the presence of other viruses (OTHERS, = 5); and the positive for COVID-19 (COVID-19, = 27).

Osteoradionecrosis (ORN) is considered one of the most severe complications of radiotherapy (RT). Treatment modalities for ORN may vary considerably, including conservative or surgical procedures. Recently, alternative managements such as the combination of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) and antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) have also yielded promising results in patients presenting ORN or delayed healing post-RT.
