Indoor production of basil ( L.) is influenced by light spectrum, photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD), and the photoperiod. To investigate the effects of different lighting on growth, chlorophyll content, and secondary metabolism, basil plants were grown from seedlings to fully expanded plants in microcosm devices under different light conditions: (a) white light at 250 and 380 μmol·m·s under 16/8 h light/dark and (b) white light at 380 μmol·m·s under 16/8 and 24/0 h light/dark.

The life-long adherence to a dietary pattern able to provide a high amount of polyphenols demonstrating beneficial cardiometabolic effects is demanding for the general population. In this study, red grape pomace (GP) was used as an ingredient to increase the daily polyphenols' intake. The incorporation of crude crushed GP at 20 and 30% (/) in a control (CTR) biscuit formula improved the nutritional profile by increasing the fiber and reducing lipid and energy content while providing up to 540 mg of polyphenols per 100 g.

In this study, a new methodology for designing and creating a custom-made template for maxillofacial surgery has been developed. The custom-made template can be used both for cutting and repositioning of the mandible arches for executing a BSSO (bilateral sagittal split osteotomy) treatment. The idea was developed in order to give the possibility of using a custom-made template with standard plates, thus reducing long times, high costs and low availability of custom-made plates; this represents the proof of novelty of the proposed template, based on a well-established methodology.

In recent years, self-healing polymers have emerged as a topic of considerable interest owing to their capability to partially restore material properties and thereby extend the product's lifespan. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the nanoindentation response in terms of hardness, reduced modulus, contact depth, and coefficient of friction of a self-healing resin developed for use in aeronautical and aerospace contexts. To achieve this, the bifunctional epoxy precursor underwent tailored functionalization to improve its toughness, facilitating effective compatibilization with a rubber phase dispersed within the host epoxy resin.

Herein, additive manufacturing, which is extremely promising in different sectors, has been adopted in the electrical energy storage field to fabricate efficient materials for supercapacitor applications. In particular, AlO-, steel-, and Cu-based microparticles have been used for the realization of 3D self-assembling materials covered with reduced graphene oxide to be processed through additive manufacturing. The presence in seawater of low-molecular-weight polyethylene (PE) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), synthetic polymers with high chemical resistance, has been demonstrated in this study for the first time by developing a novel methodology for their recovery and quantification from surface seawater. The diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) unit represents one of the building blocks more widely employed in the field of organic electronics; in most of the reported DPP-based small molecules, this unit represents the electron acceptor core symmetrically coupled to donor moieties, and the solubility is guaranteed by functionalizing lactamic nitrogens with long and branched alkyl tails. In this paper, we explored the possibility of modulating the solubility by realizing asymmetric DPP derivatives, where the molecular structure is extended in just one direction. Four novel derivatives have been prepared, characterized by a common dithyenil-DPP fragment and functionalized on one side by a thiophene unit linked to different auxiliary electron acceptor groups.

A backbone-substituted N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) zinc complex, in combination with alcohol initiators, has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of trimethylene carbonate (TMC) to poly(trimethylene carbonate) (PTMC) devoid of oxetane linkages. The ROP of TMC proceeded in solution to give PTMC, possessing controlled molecular mass (2500 < < 10000) and low dispersity ( ∼ 1.2).

In this paper, a blend composed of alginate-pectin-chitosan loaded with sodium hyaluronate in the form of an in situ forming dressing was successfully developed for wound repair applications. This complex polymeric blend has been efficiently used to encapsulate hyaluronate, forming an adhesive, flexible, and non-occlusive hydrogel able to uptake to 15 times its weight in wound fluid, and being removed without trauma from the wound site. Calorimetric and FT-IR studies confirmed chemical interactions between hyaluronate and polysaccharides blend, primarily related to the formation of a polyelectrolytic complex between hyaluronate and chitosan.

This paper explores possible procedures to accelerate CO capture from ambient air by a crystalline alkylamine surfactant (octadecylamine), leading to the corresponding crystalline ammonium-carbamate. In this paper, electrospinning and supercritical impregnation were coupled to produce polyurethane fibrous membranes loaded with mesoglycan and lactoferrin. The proposed methodology allowed the production of three skin wound healing bilayer systems: a first system containing mesoglycan loaded through electrospinning and lactoferrin loaded by supercritical impregnation, a second system where the use of the two techniques was reversed, and a third sample where the drugs were both encapsulated through a one-step process. SEM analysis demonstrated the formation of microfibers with a homogeneous drug distribution.

The two-electron electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) to hydrogen peroxide (HO) is a valuable alternative to the more conventional and energy-intensive anthraquinone process. From a circularity viewpoint, metal-free catalysts constitute a sustainable alternative for the process. In particular, lightweight hetero-doped C-materials are cost-effective and easily scalable samples that replace - more and more frequently - the use of critical raw elements in the preparation of highly performing (electro)catalysts.
