The presence of bile acids in the cystic fibrosis patient's lungs contributes to an increase in the inflammatory response, in the dominance of pathogens, as well as in the decline in lung function, increasing morbidity. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of exposure of to primary and secondary bile acids on the production of several virulence factors which are involved in its pathogenic power. The presence of bile acids in the bacterial culture medium had no effect on growth up to a concentration of 1 mM.

Anatomical study of the vascularization of the pedicled osteo-myo-cutaneous scapulo-dorsal flap.

Purpose: The main objective of this study was to conduct a radioanatomical study of the osteo-myo-cutaneous scapulo-dorsal pedicled flap.

Methods: A radiological study was performed to study the anatomical variations of the dorsal scapular pedicle (origin, course of the deep branch of the dorsal scapular artery (DSA) in relation to the medial border of the scapula, perforators from the superficial branch of the DSA). Perforators from the superficial branch of the DSA were also identified on anatomical subjects, and their cutaneous vascular territory was determined.

Methods: Sixteen feet (12 patients) with hallux rigidus underwent decompressive chevron osteotomy. Standing cone beam 3D computed tomography (3DCT) were assessed preoperatively and at 4-month follow-up, and clinical data were collected.

This study aimed to determine the effect of active transportation duration, uninterrupted sitting time, and screen time to study on physical activity and sitting time during the lockdown.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study based on data collected via an online questionnaire for university students during the second confinement in France (between October and December 2020).

A retrospective study of 200 computed tomography angiographies was performed at the Larissa University Hospital Radiology Department, where the IJV variant morphology was investigated.

Risk of Incident Cancer in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease with Prior Breast Cancer: A Multicenter Cohort Study.

Background & Aims: Breast cancer is the most common malignancy observed in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). The aim of our study was to evaluate incident cancer rate (recurrence or new-onset cancer) in a cohort of patients with IBD with a history of breast cancer according to the subsequent IBD treatment provided.

Methods: A multicenter retrospective study included consecutive patients with IBD with prior breast cancer.

Here we identify the historical drought events of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries in geochemical records of a stalagmite from Caumont cave in Northern France and develop a mechanistic understanding of their root causes.

Update on Surveillance Guidelines in Emerging Wilms Tumor Predisposition Syndromes.

Wilms tumors are commonly associated with predisposition syndromes. Many of these syndromes are associated with specific phenotypic features and are discussed in the related article from the AACR Pediatric Cancer Working Group. Guidelines for surveillance in this population were published in 2017, but since then several studies have identified new genes with recurrent pathogenic variants associated with increased risk for Wilms tumor development.

Prostate cancer screening and management in patients candidate for endoscopic enucleation of the prostate: an international survey.

Background: To explore how urologists manage prostate cancer (PCa) screening and treatment in patients undergoing endoscopic enucleation of the prostate (EEP).

Methods: A team of experts in EEP collaboratively formulated the survey questions through an interactive process. The survey opened in January 2024 and closed in February 2024.

We describe a 17-year-old woman diagnosed with severe hypertension during routine follow-up after the prescription of a combined oral contraceptive pill. Initially, due to her age, the estradiol-containing contraception, and high-level sport practice, physicians suspected drug-induced hypertension. Blood tests showed hypokalemia, and further investigations revealed pseudoaldosteronism.

Recurrence rates with long-term follow-up after hallux valgus surgical treatment using shaft metatarsal osteotomies: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Purpose: Recurrence of hallux valgus (HV) following corrective surgery is a frequent concern. A recent systematic review estimated recurrence of HV in only 4.9%, which may be an underestimation, as most included studies had short- to mid-term follow-up.

Microfluidic antisolvent crystallization for chiral symmetry breaking.

We report on the use of a microfluidic antisolvent crystallization method to investigate the effect of solution volume on the chiral symmetry breaking (CSB) phenomena of enantiomeric sodium chlorate crystals. The utilization of a microfluidic device is capable of periodically producing emulsion droplets of uniform size and facilitates the quantitative analysis and visualization of crystallization phenomena occurring within the individual emulsions immersed in an oil continuous medium (, dodecane). To promote nucleation and crystallization, a small amount of an antisolvent (, ethanol) is introduced into the continuous phase.

This study investigates the climbing dynamics of learning on a long-time scale, by using Drifting Markov models. Climbing constitutes a complex decision-making task that requires effective visual-motor coordination and exploration of the environment. Drifting Markov models, is a class of constrained heterogeneous Markov processes that allow the modeling of data that exhibit heterogeneity.

The lingual and facial arteries' common origin: a systematic review with meta-analysis and a computed tomography angiography study.

Purpose: The present evidence-based systematic review with meta-analysis aimed to investigate the fusion morphology of the lingual artery and facial artery (in the form of the linguofacial trunk-LFT) pooled prevalence and morphometry. After carefully investigating the data literature, a retrospective computed tomography angiography (CTA) study was performed to investigate a few parameters that were not well-studied.

Materials: An evidence-based systematic review retrieved 41 studies that met our inclusion criteria to identify the LFT pooled prevalence.

Anthropogenic legacy of potassium-40 in French large rivers reconstructed from sediment cores.

Environmental imprint of inorganic fertilizer uses was assessed over the last hundred years at the downstream part of large French rivers (Loire, Moselle, Rhine, Rhone, Meuse and Seine rivers) based on Potassium-40 (K) activity concentration data sets acquired from soil monitoring (1980-2022) and from sediment coes collected from 2020 to 2022 to reconstruct the temporal trajectories of K activity concentrations since the beginning of the last century. Cultivated soils were significantly enriched in K compared to non-cultivated ones in the 1980s and 1990s when they turned back to the contents of non-cultivated soils during the following decades. In riverine sediments, all the rivers displayed close K temporal trajectories with peaking K contents in fine grain size sediments in the 1980s.

This paper aims to provide new information on the determinants of dental price setting and inform public decision-making in the context of the widespread rejection of prosthetic dental care for financial reasons. We focus on the competitive mechanism in the dental prosthetics market and measure the impact of the density of professionals and competitors' prices on the fees charged by dentists.

Micro-macro SERS strategy for highly sensitive paper cartridge with trace-level molecular detection.

Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) has become a powerful spectroscopic technology for highly sensitive detection. However, SERS is still limited in the lab because it either requires complicated preparation or is limited to specific compounds, causing poor applicability for practical applications. Herein, a micro-macro SERS strategy, synergizing polymer-assisted printed process with paper-tip enrichment process, is proposed to fabricate highly sensitive paper cartridges for sensitive practical applications.

The aim of this study is to thoroughly characterize the physicochemical, phytochemical, and biological properties of four floral honey varieties from the Fez-Meknes region in Morocco, with the goal of promoting the valorization of Moroccan honey in skincare and cosmetic products. The analyses of their physicochemical characteristics encompass various parameters such as pH, acidity, density, water content, Brix index, conductivity, ash content, hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) content, and color.
