Although adenotonsillectomy is the first line treatment for children with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (0SAS), improvement in objectively documented outcomes is often inadequate and a substantial number of children have residual disease. Early recognition and treatment of children with persistent OSAS is required to prevent long-term morbidity. The management of these children is frequently complex and a multidisciplinary approach is required as most of them have additional risk factors for OSAS and comorbidities.

Fertility is usually restored in women after solid organ transplantation, and successful pregnancies have been reported in female recipients of kidney, liver, heart, pancreas-liver, and lung transplants. However, women with solid organ allografts have higher incidence of pregnancy complications like hypertension, preeclampsia, preterm delivery. Hypertension appears to be dependent on the type of immunosuppressive agents.

Improved survival and quality of life following liver transplantation are associated with an increased frequency of pregnancies in liver-transplanted women. We investigated the outcome, complications, and management of those pregnancies. We have reviewed the literature and report 8 pregnancies in 6 transplant recipients.

To study the role of extracellular nucleotides in the regulation of Sertoli cells, the effects of ATP and its analogs on the Ca(2+)-phospholipid- and cAMP-dependent pathways were tested. Cultured Sertoli cells from immature animals were incubated with ATP or structurally related compounds, and phosphoinositide (PI) turnover or cAMP accumulation was measured. Among the several nucleotide phosphate analogs tested, adenosine 5'-O-(3-thiotriphosphate) was the agonist most potent in stimulating inositol phosphate accumulation.

To gain insight into the differences in antiarrhythmic potential of right vs left stellate ganglionectomy, 72 dogs were randomized to either unilateral stellectomy or second intercostal space thoracotomy and left circumflex coronary arteriovenous pedicle occlusion was performed, without vagotomy, a mean of 8 weeks later under anesthesia. The type and timing of ventricular ectopic beats, including both nonsustained and sustained ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation, were investigated. Several covariates, including postischemic electrocardiographic changes, were considered.
