Interspecific interactions among species of the same guild play a critical role in shaping their realized niches, and their understanding may disclose mechanisms of coexistence. Investigating interactions among apex predators is of ecological and management interest, especially in human-dominated landscapes where type and intensity of their interspecific competition may be affected by human interference. During 2005-2010, we investigated, by means of GPS-telemetry, interactions between brown bears ( = 19) and wolves ( = 7) in a long-established national park in the central Apennines, Italy, where bears and wolves have always coexisted close to humans.

Background: This study aimed to measure differences among informal caregivers, users, and mental healthcare workers (MHW) regarding job/organizational satisfaction and perceptions of respect for rights in the mental health services of one region of Italy.
Methods: A sample of 100 caregivers, 240 MHW, and 200 users completed the "Well-Being at Work and Respect for Human Rights Questionnaire" (WWRR) in community mental health centers in Sardinia.
Results: Caregivers reported higher satisfaction toward MHW on perceiving respect for human rights among users (5.

Background: Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is the most frequent cardiac arrhythmia following cardiac operations. It has been associated with an increased risk of postoperative cerebrovascular complications, morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study is to evaluate if the type of venous cannulation to institute the cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) during major cardiac surgery procedures can influence the rate of POAF and late FA onset.

Introduction: Heterotopic ossifications (HO) are common after total hip arthroplasty (THA). The invasiveness of surgical approaches plays a relevant role in HO development. The aims of this study were to assess the development of HO 6 months after THA through direct lateral approach (DLA) or direct anterior approach (DAA) without a dedicated orthopaedic table and to assess the clinical impact of HO.

Mass spectrometry can gain analytical interpretability by studying complementarity and synergy between the data obtained by the same technique. To explore its potential in an untargeted metabolomic application, the objective of this work was to obtain organic and aqueous coffee extracts of three coffee Canephora groups produced in Brazil with distinctive aspects: geographical origin and botanical variety. Aqueous and organic extracts of roasted coffee beans were analyzed by direct infusion electrospray ionization mass spectrometry.

Infection with Schistosoma haematobium causes urogenital disease associated with organ disfunction, bleeding, pain, and higher susceptibility to infections and cancer. Timely and accurate diagnosis is crucial for prompt and appropriate treatment as well as surveillance efforts, and the use of plasma biomarkers offers important advantages over parasitological examination of urine, including increased sensitivity and the possibility to use the same specimen for multiple investigations. The present study aims to evaluate the diagnostic performance of different plasma biomarkers in endemic populations from Burkina Faso, West Africa.

Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are a large class of persistent emerging pollutants, ubiquitous in different environmental compartments. In this study, twenty-one PFASs were determined in seventy-eight water samples collected from six different rivers in the Umbria region (central Italy) during a 13-month monitoring campaign. The sum of the twenty-one target analytes (ΣPFASs) ranged from 2.

PFASs are a variety of ecologically persistent compounds of anthropogenic origin loosely included in many industrial products. In these, the carbon chain can be fully (perfluoroalkyl substances) or partially (polyfluoroalkyl substances) fluorinated. Their ubiquitous presence in many environmental compartments over the years and their long-lasting nature have given rise to concerns about the possible adverse effects of PFASs on ecosystems and human health.

The HAGOS (Hip and Groin Outcome Score) questionnaire is a valid and reliable measure of the self-assessment of symptoms, activity limitation, participation restriction, and quality of life (Qol) of subjects with hip and/or groin pain. The aims of this study are to translate and transculturally adapt the HAGOS into Italian (HAGOS-I) and to assess its internal consistency, validity, and reliability in physically active, young, and middle-aged subjects. The translation and transcultural adaptation of (HAGOS-I) was carried out according to international guidelines.

Since the new guidelines for endometrial cancer risk classification have been published, many reviews have proposed a critical re-evaluation. In this review, we look back to how the molecular classification system was built and its evolution in time to highlight the major flaws, particularly the biases stemming from the inherent limitations of the cohorts involved in the discoveries. A significant drawback in some cohorts is the inclusion criteria, as well as the retrospective nature and the notably sparse numbers, especially in the (nonsynonymous mutation in EDM domain of POLE) risk groups, all of which impact the reliability of outcomes.

To develop a core outcome set for Achilles tendinopathy (COS-AT) for use in clinical trials we performed a five-step process including (1) a systematic review of available outcome measurement instruments, (2) an online survey on truth and feasibility of the available measurement instruments, (3) an assessment of the methodological quality of the selected outcome measurement instruments, (4) an online survey on the outcome measurement instruments as COS and (5) a consensus in-person meeting. Both surveys were completed by healthcare professionals and patients. The Outcome Measures in Rheumatology guidelines with a 70% threshold for consensus were followed.

The present Bayesian network meta-analysis compared different types of polyethylene liners in total hip arthroplasty (THA) in terms of wear penetration (mm/year) and rate of revision. The type of liners compared were the crosslinked ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (CPE/UHMWPE), Vitamin E infused highly cross-linked polyethylene (HXLPE-VEPE), modified cross-linked polyethylene (MXLPE), highly cross-linked polyethylene (HXLPE), Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). This study was conducted according to the PRISMA extension statement for reporting systematic reviews incorporating network meta-analyses of healthcare interventions.

Telomeric G-quadruplexes (G4s) are non-canonical DNA structures composed of TTAGGG repeats. They are extensively studied both as biomolecules key for genome stability and as promising building blocks and functional elements in synthetic biology and nanotechnology. This is why it is extremely important to understand how the interaction between G4s is affected by their topology.

This paper demonstrates the design steps of a slot-loaded Vivaldi antenna for biomedical microwave imaging applications, showing the influence of the design parameters on the antenna's dimensions and performances. Several antenna miniaturization techniques were taken into consideration during the design: reduction in the electromagnetic wavelength by using a high-permittivity substrate material (relative permittivity ϵr=10.2), the placement of the antenna inside a coupling medium (ϵr=23), and the elongation of the current path by etching slots on each side of the radiator to reduce the antenna's lowest resonant frequency without increasing its physical dimensions.

Several scores can predict clinical outcomes of patients with Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS). The validated PARIS (Patterns of Non-Adherence to Anti-Platelet Regimen in Stented Patients) score is poorly used in clinical practice because it needs items that are not always easily available. The ACEF (Age, Creatinine, and Ejection Fraction) score is more attractive because it only includes three items.

A-site doped SrTiO is considered as a promising substitute for traditional anodic metals in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). In this study, we present the reactivity of LaSrCaTiO (LCSTO), LaSrTiO (LSTO), and SrTiO (STO) toward H by ambient pressure NEXAFS spectroscopy and theoretical spectra simulation with FDMNES code. The samples were synthesized by MBE (molecular beam epitaxy), hydrothermal, and modified-Pechini routes.
