Surgical treatment of slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) by Dunn procedure modified by Ganz: a systematic review.

Background: Treatment of SCFE is still controversial, especially in moderate and severe forms. Dunn osteotomy performed with the Ganz approach became very popular in the last decade, although it is a complicated and challenging surgical procedure with a risk of AVN. The aim of our study was to analyze the current literature verifying the effectiveness of this surgical procedure, with specific attention to the incidence of AVN and other complications.

Detection Rate and Clinical Impact of PET/CT with F-FACBC in Patients with Biochemical Recurrence of Prostate Cancer: A Retrospective Bicentric Study.

Our aim was to assess the detection rate (DR) of positron emission computed tomography (PET/CT) with anti-1-amino-3-[F]-flurocyclobutane-1-carboxylic acid (F-FACBC) in patients with biochemical recurrence (BCR) from prostate cancer (PC). As a secondary endpoint, we evaluated F-FACBC PET/CT's impact on patients management. Clinical records of 81 patients submitted to F-FACBC PET/CT due to PC BCR in two Italian Nuclear Medicine Units were retrospectively assessed.

Long-Term Follow-Up of Device-Assisted Clampless Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Compared with Conventional On-Pump Technique.

Study Objective: To evaluate the long-term outcomes of clampless off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (C-OPCAB) compared with conventional on-pump double clamping coronary artery bypass grafting (C-CABG).

Methods: From October 2006 to December 2011, 366 patients underwent isolated coronary artery bypass grafting. After propensity score matching of preoperative variables, 143 pairs were selected who received C-OPCAB with the use of device-assisted PAS-Port proximal venous graft anastomoses or C-CABG, performed by the same surgeon experienced in both techniques.

High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein Increases the Risk of Carotid Plaque Instability in Male Dyslipidemic Patients.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate how the high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) values influence the risk of carotid plaque instability in association with other cardiovascular risk factors.

Methods: One hundred and fifty-six carotid plaques from both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients requiring surgical carotid endarterectomy were retrospectively collected. According to the modified American Heart Association, atherosclerosis plaques have been histologically distinguished into unstable and stable.

The treatment of acute appendicitis in two age-based groups during COVID-19 pandemic: a retrospective experience in a COVID-19 referral hospital.

Purpose: During the past months, the Italian Government has reduced the restrictions and access to hospitals as well as outpatient. Since then, up to 40% of non-traumatic abdominal emergencies have had unusual delayed treatment. Given the rapidly evolving situation and the absence of evidence to support recommendations during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is useful to assess how the current situation is influencing the management of elderly patients with acute appendicitis.

3-T MRI and clinical validation of ultrasound-guided transperineal laser ablation of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Background: Transperineal laser ablation (TPLA) of the prostate is a novel, mini-invasive option for men with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). Our aim was to assess the impact of ultrasound-guided TPLA regarding urodynamic improvement and sexual function, monitoring clinical data, postprocedural complications and imaging findings at 3-T multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging.

Methods: Forty-four patients aged ≥ 50 affected with moderate to severe LUTS (International Prostate Symptoms score ≥ 12) due to benign prostatic obstruction and refractoriness, intolerance or poor compliance to medical therapies underwent US-guided TPLA between May 2018 and February 2020.

Leukoencephalopathy with cerebral calcifications and cysts (LCC) is a neurological disorder characterized by the radiological triad of white matter abnormalities, intracranial calcifications and cystic lesions variable in size resulting from a diffuse cerebral microangiopathy. Typically, progressive focal neurological deficits and seizures are the first clinical manifestation, but the severity of symptoms can vary according to the size and location of the cystic lesions holding compressive effects on the surrounding brain tissue. The most common histopathological finding is diffuse microangiopathy, which might be associated to pathogenic mutations in SNORD118 gene causing Labrune syndrome.

Background: One goal of orthodontic treatment in mixed dentition is to expand the maxillary arch to allow proper tooth alignment and a correction of sagittal and vertical malocclusions.
