Vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) are the most common osteoporotic fractures. Only 1/3 of patients with VCFs are clinically diagnosed. In our institution, the Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) was launched in 2017 to improve osteoporosis management for hospitalized patients.

Objective: To compare the impact of a commercial "sleep lotion" versus a placebo control lotion on salivary melatonin and sleep quality.
Methods: The presence of melatonin in the lotion was confirmed and quantitated with High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). In this randomized, controlled, double-blind crossover trial, undergraduate student participants applied lotions on two separate nights and we quantitated melatonin in saliva samples with enzyme linked immunosorbent assays.

Kappa opioid receptor (KOR) antagonists have potential therapeutic applications in the treatment of stress-induced relapse to substance abuse and mood disorders. The dynorphin A analog arodyn (Ac[Phe,Arg,D-Ala]dynorphin A-(1-11)-NH) exhibits potent and selective kappa opioid receptor antagonism. Multiple cyclizations in longer peptides, such as dynorphin and its analogs, can extend the conformational constraint to additional regions of the peptide beyond what is typically constrained by a single cyclization.

A Continuous Performance Task is an example of a mental stressor which requires vigilance, attention, and effort. We hypothesized that a sympathetic nervous system response would be evident from a resting baseline period to this attention test, and explored if physiological measures were correlated to state and trait anxiety, perceived stress, mindfulness, and performance on the task. In 20 undergraduates, blood pressure and skin conductance increased due to the attention test but heart rate variability did not change.

A variety of mouse models for Down syndrome (Trisomy 21) have been created to test hypotheses about the correlation of phenotypes to gene content and copy number. Ts1Rhr mice are trisomic for a region on mouse chromosome 16 that is homologous to 5.3 Mb of human chromosome 21.

Ovarian cancer remains the most lethal gynecologic malignancy in the USA. For over twenty years, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) has been characterized extensively in development and disease. The dysregulation of this process in cancer has been identified as a mechanism by which epithelial tumors become more aggressive, allowing them to survive and invade distant tissues.

Science is among humanity's greatest achievements, yet scientific censorship is rarely studied empirically. We explore the social, psychological, and institutional causes and consequences of scientific censorship (defined as actions aimed at obstructing particular scientific ideas from reaching an audience for reasons other than low scientific quality). Popular narratives suggest that scientific censorship is driven by authoritarian officials with dark motives, such as dogmatism and intolerance.

Mucin-domain glycoproteins are densely O-glycosylated and play critical roles in a host of biological functions. In particular, the T cell immunoglobulin and mucin-domain containing family of proteins (TIM-1, -3, -4) decorate immune cells and act as key regulators in cellular immunity. However, their dense O-glycosylation remains enigmatic, primarily due to the challenges associated with studying mucin domains.

Targeted protein degradation is an emerging strategy for the elimination of classically undruggable proteins. Here, to expand the landscape of targetable substrates, we designed degraders that achieve substrate selectivity via recognition of a discrete peptide and glycan motif and achieve cell-type selectivity via antigen-driven cell-surface binding. We applied this approach to mucins, O-glycosylated proteins that drive cancer progression through biophysical and immunological mechanisms.

The selective functionalization of carbohydrates provides a powerful method for introducing structural complexity, allowing access to unique drug scaffolds with distinctive pharmaceutical profiles. Herein, we describe an efficient and selective carbon-carbon bond forming reaction of a variety of common trimethylsilyl-protected pyranosides and pyranoses at C-6 using a one-pot Dess-Martin periodinane-mediated oxidation deprotection. This is followed by addition of stabilized and non-stabilized ylides to generate alkenoate carbohydrates and related analogs in good to moderate yields.

Purpose: To determine the most frequently cited articles relating to ice hockey since 2000 and conduct a bibliometric analysis of these publications.
Methods: The Clarivate Web of Knowledge database was used to gather data and generate a list of publications relating to "ice hockey" on June 20, 2022. Articles were filtered by the total number of citations accrued and were included or excluded on the basis of relevance to ice hockey; no date of publication, language, or journal restrictions.

The purpose of this paper is to present a tutorial on a diagnostic framework developed to assess children who stutter and exhibit co-existing disorders. While we have guidelines for treating these children, there are no specific guidelines for assessing them. We provide a rationale for the development of T-PALS with support from the literature.

4-Nonylphenol (4-NP), an environmental pollutant with potent ecotoxicological effects, has been discovered in significant quantities in glacial ice and snow of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, CA. Photolysis of 4-NP is suspected to be a major, if not the sole, breakdown pathway in snow. However, the photolysis process has yet to be characterized in detail for this unique environment.

Unlabelled: This study aimed to evaluate changes of the M-shaped genioplasty in sagittal and vertical planes in a group of 34 patients and describe other indications, such as the increase of the mentolabial angle, decrease in the depth of the mentolabial fold, and the centering of the chin.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 34 patients between 2010 and 2019. All studies were conducted at T0 (preoperative), T1 (a month after surgery), and T2 (1 year after surgery).

Purpose: This study examined the extent to which prelingual cochlear implant (CI) users show a slowed speaking rate compared with typical-hearing (TH) talkers when repeating various speech stimuli and whether the slowed speech of CI users relates to their immediate verbal memory.
Method: Participants included 10 prelingually deaf teenagers who received CIs before the age of 5 years and 10 age-matched TH teenagers. Participants repeated nonword syllable strings, word strings, and center-embedded sentences, with conditions balanced for syllable length and metrical structure.

The most distinguished feature of the female silhouette is the buttock. As such, the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) has become the most popular plastic surgery procedures in recent years. Despite the popularity of this buttock reshaping and augmentation procedure, there remains no prevailing standard for evaluating, planning surgical design, and objectifying buttock size and shape outcomes.
