Recently, we have reported that biogenic silver/silver chloride nanoparticles from (-AgCl-NPs) and (-Ag/AgCl-NPs) inhibited different cancer cells by inducing apoptosis and several genes alteration. Here for the first time, we assessed the effects of these two nanoparticles on human lung (A549) and hepatocellular (SMMC-7721) carcinoma cell lines. AgCl-NPs and -Ag/AgCl-NPs inhibited A549 cell growth with IC values of 22.

Breast cancer emerges as one of the most prevalent malignancies in women, its incidence showing a concerning upward trend. Among the diverse array of breast cancer subtypes, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) assumes notable significance, due to lack of estrogen, progesterone, and HER-2 receptors. More focus has to be placed on creating effective therapy due to the high prevalence and rising incidence of TNBC.

Heliyon

September 2024

Solar Energy Laboratory, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Rajshahi, Rajshahi, 6205, Bangladesh.

Copper cadmium tin selenide (CuCdSnSe) based photodetector (PD) has been explored with the solar cell capacitance simulator (SCAPS-1D). Herein, cadmium sulfide (CdS) and molybdenum disulfide (MoS) are used as a window and back surface field (BSF) layers, respectively. The physical attributes, such as width, carrier density and bulk defects have been adjusted to attain the optimal conditions.

Heterologous expression, characterisation and 3D-structural insights of GH18 chitinases derived from sago palm (Metroxylon sagu).

Int J Biol Macromol

November 2024

Genetic Engineering Laboratory, Faculty of Resource Science and Technology, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, 94300 Kota Samarahan, Sarawak, Malaysia. Electronic address:

Although plants don't have chitins, they produce chitinases to protect themselves from biotic and abiotic stressors. There are two forms of chitinases found in organisms: glycosyl hydrolase 18 (GH18) and 19 (GH19) families. Plant GH19 chitinases are well known for their role in protecting against pathogens, but the roles of GH18 chitinases have not been fully elucidated.

Each year thousands of people suffer across the globe due to higher cancer incidence and mortality rates. Additionally, the treatment option for cancer patients is also costly, and often cancer drugs suffer from lower efficacy with more side effects. The DNA topoisomerase can function as an established cancer target because Human Topoisomerase (Top1) regulates genetic transcription during the post-mitotic phase and plays a critical role in DNA supercoiling during replication and repair.

Understanding the impacts of, and options for, controlling invasive species is crucial to their management. Wetlands are a widely invaded ecosystem, since dispersal of aquatic species is facilitated by seasonal flooding. This study evaluated the effects of the translocated pondweed Monochoria hastata on fish and rice production in two wetlands of Bangladesh over six years (2017-2022).

Megacity solid waste disposal suitability mapping in Dhaka, Bangladesh: an integrated approach using remote sensing, GIS and statistics.

Environ Monit Assess

September 2024

Geological and Geophysical Engineering Department, Faculty of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, Suez University, Suez, 43518, Egypt.

Selecting suitable Megacity Solid Waste Disposal (MSWD) sites is a challenging task in densely populated deltas of developing countries, exacerbated by limited public awareness about waste management. One of the major environmental concerns in Dhaka City, the world's densest megacity, is the presence of dumps close to surface water bodies resources. This study employed the Geographic Information System (GIS)-Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) framework to integrate geomorphological (slope and flow accumulation), geological (lithological and lineament), hydrogeological (depth to groundwater table and surface waterbody), socioeconomic (Land use land cover, distance to settlement, road, and airport), and climatological (wind direction) determinants, coupled by land-use and hydro-environmental analyses, to map optimal dumps (MSWD sites.

Background: Delirium and Alzheimer's disease (AD) are common causes of cognitive dysfunction among older adults. These neurodegenerative diseases share a common and complex relationship, and can occur individually or concurrently, increasing the chance of permanent mental dysfunction. However, the common molecular pathophysiology, key proteomic biomarkers, and functional pathways are largely unknown, whereby delirium is superimposed on AD and dementia.

For the first time, different pollution indices and a receptor model have been used to quantify eco-environmental and health risk assessments as well as identify the sources of potentially toxic elements in soil along the Barapukuria Coal Mine (BCM). Individual indices include enrichment and contamination factors showing the soil samples are moderately to highly contaminated by arsenic, cobalt, chromium, copper, lead, and zinc and heavily contaminated by sulfur. According to the geo-accumulation index, there is significant pollution with arsenic (1.

Guizhou Province has many multi-layer, thin-thick coal seams; however, complex geology, incomplete reservoir characterization, and sweet-spot selection technology prevent large-scale coalbed methane (CBM) development. This study evaluates the CBM reservoir properties within the Dahebian block using logging data, coal sample analysis, and well-testing data and develops a 3D static reservoir properties model to analyze their spatial and vertical propagation. A sweet spot evaluation model was established using a multi-level fuzzy method based on 9 parameters extracted from a 3D static reservoir properties model.

Salinity intrusion into the freshwater system due to climate change and anthropogenic activities is a growing global concern, which has made humans and domesticated animals more susceptible to diseases, resulting in less productivity. However, the effects of salinity on domesticated and wild birds, especially in terms of production and immunity, have not been fully elucidated yet. Therefore, this study was designed to examine the effects of salinity on the production and immunity of birds and the mechanisms by which immunity is compromised.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the link between Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), with findings suggesting that both diseases share common key genes (sKGs) that may contribute to their development.
  • Researchers identified 259 shared differentially expressed genes and selected ten significant sKGs that showed a connection with DNA methylation patterns that could be linked to ccRCC.
  • The study also recommends three repurposable drugs, Digoxin, Imatinib, and Dovitinib, as potential treatments for patients suffering from both T2D and ccRCC, based on molecular analysis.
