Purpose: Selection of appropriate adjuvant therapy to ultimately reduce the risk of breast cancer (BC) recurrence is a challenge for medical oncologists. Several automated risk prediction models have been developed using retrospective clinical data and have evolved significantly over the years in terms of predictors of recurrence, data usage, and predictive techniques (statistical/machine learning [ML]).

Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, we performed a systematic literature review of the aforementioned statistical and ML models published between January 2008 and December 2022 through searching five digital databases-PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Cochrane, and Web of Science.

Chembiochem

October 2023

Institute of Condensed Matter and Nanosciences, Molecular Chemistry, Materials and Catalysis (IMCN/MOST), Université catholique de Louvain, Place L. Pasteur 1, 1348, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium.

Article Synopsis
  • Three dinuclear coordination complexes were synthesized from a specific ligand, characterized by spectroscopic methods and single crystal X-ray diffraction.
  • The complexes formed through reactions with iron(II) chloride and copper(II) nitrate resulted in a co-crystal with varying percentages of two different copper-containing species.
  • The complexes displayed significant antioxidant properties when tested for free radical scavenging activity, outperforming the original ligand and other reference compounds.

Pan Afr Med J

July 2023

Department of Periodontology, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Mohammed V University in Rabat, Rabat, Morocco.

Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is a rare genetic disease characterized by a hypersensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) radiation leading to defective deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) repair and predisposing to skin tumorigenesis. This paper reports the safe approaches used for the dental treatment of XP patients, controlling the ultraviolet (UV) sources at the dental office. An XP 29-year-old woman was referred for oral pain and sensitivity at the service of periodontology, UV rays were checked with a UV-meter.

Surgical excision of peripheral giant cell granuloma of the maxilla: a case report.

Pan Afr Med J

July 2023

Department of Conservative Dentistry, International Faculty of Dental Medicine, College of Health Sciences, International University of Rabat, Rabat, Morocco.

Peripheral giant cell granuloma (PGCG) is described as an elevated lesion that is located mostly on the gingival mucosa and alveolar crest, consecutive to irritative factors and trauma. It predominantly occurs more in the mandible than the maxilla, and it is usually seen in the 4 to the 6 decades. The clinical appearance of this lesion is red-bluish in color, presenting a similar tissue to the one observed in the liver, usually measuring less than 2 cm.

North African fox genomes show signatures of repeated introgression and adaptation to life in deserts.

Nat Ecol Evol

August 2023

CIBIO, Centro de Investigação em Biodiversidade e Recursos Genéticos, InBIO Laboratório Associado, Campus de Vairão, Universidade do Porto, Vairão, Portugal.

Elucidating the evolutionary process of animal adaptation to deserts is key to understanding adaptive responses to climate change. Here we generated 82 individual whole genomes of four fox species (genus Vulpes) inhabiting the Sahara Desert at different evolutionary times. We show that adaptation of new colonizing species to a hot arid environment has probably been facilitated by introgression and trans-species polymorphisms shared with older desert resident species, including a putatively adaptive 25 Mb genomic region.

Spontaneous hematoma of the iliopsoas is a rare pathological circumstance; in the majority of cases published in the literature, it is associated with disorders of hemostasis due to anticoagulant treatment or coagulopathies. We present a case of a 64-year-old man on acenocoumarol, an anticoagulant of the vitamin K antagonist family, for atrial fibrillation, who presented with a severe left hip and flank pain with a huge ecchymosis on the left flank and a partial inability to extend the left thigh. A CT scan confirmed the diagnosis of iliopsoas hematoma.

In this research paper, we analyzed the bibliographic data of the research publications issued by the Moroccan Journal of Chemistry between 2013 and 2021. As an open-access country-based research journal with a narrow area of interest and international online exposure, it will be interesting to see how it affects the local chemical research community through the comparison of the characteristics of the research outputs of the journal as retrieved from the (DOAJ) with the features of Moroccan chemical research from 2014 to 2021 in the (WoS). In this context, we generated scientometric networks using , a tool for large-scale data visualization, to reveal the patterns of the publications in the Moroccan Journal of Chemistry.

Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) is a heterogeneous group of genetic rare diseases disrupting enamel development (Smith et al., Front Physiol, 2017a, 8, 333). The clinical enamel phenotypes can be described as hypoplastic, hypomineralized or hypomature and serve as a basis, together with the mode of inheritance, to Witkop's classification (Witkop, J Oral Pathol, 1988, 17, 547-553).

Penile abscesses are rare and mainly interest the corpora cavernosa or soft tissue of the external genitalia, while involvement of the corpus spongiosum is unusual, with only a few cases published in the literature. We report the case of an abscess of the corpus spongiosum secondary to a documented urinary tract infection in a young immunocompetent patient with no particular pathological history. To our knowledge this is the first case reported in this context.
