Introduction: Feedback may play out in the general practice workplace less usefully than anticipated by educators. We investigated work-based feedback conversations about directly observed student tasks embedded in the supervisor's clinical consultations with patients.
Methods: Feedback conversations between GP teachers and medical students and subsequent student reflections were audio-recorded.

To evaluate the generalizability of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms that use deep learning methods to identify middle ear disease from otoscopic images, between internal to external performance. 1842 otoscopic images were collected from three independent sources: (a) Van, Turkey, (b) Santiago, Chile, and (c) Ohio, USA. Diagnostic categories consisted of (i) normal or (ii) abnormal.

Introduction: Telehealth programs are important to deliver otolaryngology services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children living in rural and remote areas, where distance and access to specialists is a critical factor.
Objective: To evaluate the inter-rater agreement and value of increasing levels of clinical data (otoscopy with or without audiometry and in-field nurse impressions) to diagnose otitis media using a telehealth approach.
Design: Blinded, inter-rater reliability study.

A dog bite causing an auricular avulsion is a rare cause of an outer ear defect. By nature of the high-energy trauma inflicted by canine bites and the anatomic variability of the outer ear, no two such avulsion injuries are the same. If the native cartilage cannot be preserved after trauma, placement of a graft capable of forming grooves and ridges is required to reconstruct the complex anatomy of the outer ear.

Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS) is a high-grade neoplasm typically diagnosed in older adults and localized to the extremities or retroperitoneum. Because of poor response to therapy and high rates of recurrence, this neoplasm is associated with a poor prognosis. A 12-year-old female presented with weight loss, abdominal pain, fatigue, and diarrhea.

Refractory symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome can persist or reoccur after carpal tunnel release (CTR) surgery in 1% to 25% of patients, with up to 12% of patients requiring secondary surgery. If revision surgery is required, the results are much less successful compared to primary surgery. In this study, we investigated whether cryopreserved human umbilical cord allograft placement during CTR revision surgery improved short- and long-term surgical outcomes.

Agenesis of the internal carotid artery (ICA) is a rare congenital malformation that is often asymptomatic until the fourth or fifth decade. ICA agenesis is associated with several intracranial pathologies, the most reported being intracranial aneurysms, thought to be attributable to the increased flow in the collateral vessels supplying the anterior circulation. The cause of ICA agenesis is largely unknown and has not been consistently associated with any genetic mutations or syndromes.

As population obesity rates continue to increase, elucidating the impact of body mass index (BMI) on hip arthroscopy outcomes is essential. This investigation was conducted to quantify the effects of BMI on hip arthroscopy outcomes.

However, previous studies have not evaluated if this anterior knee pain is functionally limiting for patients. This study introduces the concept of functional anterior knee pain, or kneecap pain that limits patients' ability to return to their prior level of activity or sport.

Sinusoidal obstruction syndrome/veno-occlusive disease (SOS/VOD) is an established complication in patients undergoing allogeneic hemopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Defibrotide is an effective and safe pharmacologic option for treating diagnosed SOS/VOD. By exploring data provided to the Australasian Bone Marrow Transplant Recipient Registry (ABMTRR) by centers in Australia and New Zealand, this study aimed to describe the incidence of SOS/VOD and patterns of defibrotide use from 2016 to 2020.

Background: Autonomic dysfunction including sudomotor abnormalities have been reported in association with SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Objective: There are no previous studies that have compared autonomic function objectively in patients pre- and post- SARS-CoV-2 infection. We aimed to identify if SARS-CoV-2 virus is triggering and/or worsening dysautonomia by comparing autonomic function tests in a group of patients pre-and post-SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Objective: Despite the disabling deficits of motor apraxia and sensory ataxia resulting from intraoperative injury of the superior thalamocortical tracts (TCTs), region-specific electrophysiological localization is currently lacking. Herein, the authors describe a novel TCT mapping paradigm.
Methods: Three patients, 1 asleep and 2 awake, underwent glioma resection affecting primarily the somatosensory cortex and underlying TCT.

Background: In the presence of a dilated foramen of Monro, a transcortical, transforaminal approach is considered the safest and simplest approach for resection of colloid cysts. However, in the presence of small or normal frontal horns, numerous microsurgical approaches and, often complicated, variations have been described, invariably employing forms of stereotactic navigation.
Objective: To report an alternative, accurate, microsurgical stereotactic low-profile technique.

Studies have proposed that the routine use of the modified gamma-cyclodextrin, sugammadex, could provide perioperative time savings. However, these investigations have been limited to small group analyses. The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of sugammadex on perioperative times when compared to neostigmine under general clinical practice conditions following rocuronium-induced neuromuscular blockade for laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

One devastating complication that leads to increased morbidity and mortality rates after total joint arthroplasty (TJA) is prosthetic joint infection (PJI). Evidence on the relationship between climate, seasonality, and the risk of developing a PJI conflicts. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of seasonality and climate change on the rate of PJI.

Living donor renal transplant involves highly technical operations in both a healthy donor and a recipient with end-stage kidney disease. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography angiography (CTA) is used to assess critical donor anatomy, but its interpretation becomes increasingly difficult as renal anatomy becomes more complex. A related donor was denied because of prohibitive anatomy seen on the pretransplant evaluation CTA.

Amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) is a rare cause of severe maternal morbidity and mortality. No well-studied protocols are available for management of AFE. We present a case of cardiac arrest secondary to presumed AFE and the use of atropine-ondansetron-ketorolac (AOK).
