Background: The core motive of pharmacovigilance is the detection and prevention of adverse drug reactions (ADRs), to improve the risk-benefit balance of the drug. However, the causality assessment of ADRs remains a major challenge among clinicians, and none of the available tools of causality assessment used for assessing ADRs have been universally accepted.
Objective: To provide an up-to-date overview of the different causality assessment tools.

The alteration of environmental conditions has two major outcomes on the demographics of living organisms: population decline of the common species and extinction of the rarest ones. Halting the decline of abundant species as well as the erosion of biodiversity require solutions that may be mismatched, despite being rooted in similar causes. In this study, we demonstrate how rank abundance distribution (RAD) models are mathematical representations of a dominance-diversity dilemma.

Objective: A novel cognitive-behavioral couple therapy (CBCT) has shown efficacy for treating provoked vestibulodynia (PVD), the most common type of genito-pelvic pain, in comparison to topical lidocaine. However, mechanisms of therapeutic change have not been determined. We examined women's and partners' pain self-efficacy and pain catastrophizing as mediators of change in CBCT, using topical lidocaine as a control group.

Single-cell technologies have revealed the complexity of the tumour immune microenvironment with unparalleled resolution. Most clinical strategies rely on histopathological stratification of tumour subtypes, yet the spatial context of single-cell phenotypes within these stratified subgroups is poorly understood. Here we apply imaging mass cytometry to characterize the tumour and immunological landscape of samples from 416 patients with lung adenocarcinoma across five histological patterns.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate in cadaveric specimens the reliability of measuring cervical intradiscal pressure (CIDP) and if posterior-anterior (PA) mobilizations targeting the cervical spine were associated with CIDP changes.
Methods: Cervical PA mobilizations were performed on the spinous processes of 7 (3 men, 4 women) cadaveric specimens using a servo-controlled linear actuator to provide 25N and 45N forces. CIDP measurements were performed at C4-5, C5-6, C6-7, and C7-T1 intervertebral discs (IVDs) using a fiberoptic catheter system that recorded CIDP for each IVD cervical segment.

Synthetic lethality is a pragmatic targeted cancer therapy approach in which cancer cells harboring genetic alterations are exploited for the specific killing of cancer cells. Earlier, we have established a synthetic lethal (SL) interaction between two genes that are CHK2 and PRDX2 in colorectal cancer (CRC) cells. The SL interaction between CHK2 and PRDX2 resulted in selective targeting of CHK2-defective CRC cells.

Autophagy plays an intricate role in paradigmatic human pathologies such as cancer, and neurodegenerative, cardiovascular, and autoimmune disorders. Autophagy regulation is performed by a set of autophagy-related () genes, first recognized in yeast genome and subsequently identified in other species, including humans. Several other genes have been identified to be involved in the process of autophagy either directly or indirectly.

The conjugation of chitosan 15 and 100 KD with anticancer drugs cis- and trans-Pt (NH)Cl (abbreviated cis-Pt and trans-Pt) were studied at pH 5-6. Using multiple spectroscopic methods and thermodynamic analysis to characterize the nature of drug-chitosan interactions and the potential application of chitosan nanoparticles in drug delivery. Analysis showed that both hydrophobic and hydrophilic contacts are involved in drug-polymer interactions, while chitosan size and charge play a major role in the stability of drug-polymer complexes.

Several paint companies recently included a range of recycled paints among their proposed products. These are produced from recovered waste and mixed according to their main binders and colors to produce new batches of lower quality at lower cost. As they are relatively new to the market, no comparative study of their differentiation has yet been realized.

Background: In heart failure, specific target doses for each drug are recommended, but some patients receive suboptimal dosing, others are undertreated or remain chronically in a titration phase, despite having no apparent contraindication or intolerance. We assessed the association of different levels of adherence to guidelines with outcomes in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).
Methods: Medical records of patients with HFrEF followed at our heart failure (HF) clinic for at least 6 months (n = 511) were reviewed and patients categorized as: 1) optimized (25.

Background: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) decreases lung volume below the functional residual capacity and can generate intrathoracic airway closure. Conversely, large insufflations can induce thoracic distension and jeopardize circulation. The capnogram (CO signal) obtained during continuous chest compressions can reflect intrathoracic airway closure, and we hypothesized here that it can also indicate thoracic distension.

Evidence from natural populations shows that changes in environmental conditions can cause rapid modifications in the evolutionary potential of phenotypes, partly through genotype-by-environment interactions (G×E). Therefore, the overall rate of microevolution should depend on fluctuations in environmental conditions, even when directional selection is sustained over several generations. We tested this hypothesis in a preindustrial human population that experienced a microevolutionary change in age at first reproduction (AFR) of mothers, using the annual infant mortality rate (IMR) as an indicator of environmental conditions during their early life.

Although risk factors associated with offending and recidivism are relatively well-established for mainstream sexual offenses, much less is known about men with a low IQ who have sexually offended (MIQSO), let alone those with forensic involvement. In this exploratory study, 137 convicted for the commission of at least one sexual offense and found not criminally responsible because a mental disorder were recruited in a maximum-security hospital. They were all assessed with the SORAG (static risk factors) and the RSVP (dynamic risk factors).

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the major causes of cancer-linked mortality worldwide. Selective therapeutic approaches toward cancer are the need of the hour to combat cancer. Synthetic lethality is a pragmatic targeted cancer therapy in which cancer cell-specific vulnerabilities such as genetic defects/somatic mutations are exploited for selective cancer therapy by targeting genetic interactors (synthetic lethal interactors) of such mutation/defects present in cancer cells.
