Nitrogen (N) and carbon (C) inputs substantially affect soil microbial functions. However, the influences of long-term N and C additions on soil microbial resource limitation and heterotrophic respiration-fundamental microbial functional traits-remain unclear, impeding the understanding of how soil C dynamics respond to global change. In this study, the responses of soil microbial resource limitation and heterotrophic respiration (Rh) to 7-year N and biochar (BC) additions in a subtropical Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) plantation were investigated.

Jean-Nicolas Marjolin was a 19th century French anatomist and surgeon. Although not strictly speaking a pivotal figure in history of medicine, he deserves to be known for at least three reasons. He (more or less accurately) described a type of ulcer which is nowadays referred to as Marjolin's ulcer (1828); he had the privilege of operating on the world-famous Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord for an anthrax (1838); and a rose has been named after him since 1860.

Since the Leibniz rule for integer-order derivatives of the product of functions, which includes a finite number of terms, is not true for fractional-order (FO) derivatives of that, all sliding mode control (SMC) methods introduced in the literature involved a very limited class of FO nonlinear systems. This article presents a solution for the unsolved problem of SMC of a class of FO nonstrict-feedback nonlinear systems with uncertainties. Using the Leibniz rule for the FO derivative of the product of two functions, which includes an infinite number of terms, it is shown that only one of these terms is needed to design a SMC law.

Cumulative childhood trauma (CCT) increases the risk of experiencing interpersonal problems and relationship distress in adulthood. However, not all CCT survivors experience such difficulties, and little research has investigated protective factors against relationship dissatisfaction in CCT survivors and their partners. Romantic attachment might be one such factor that could reduce the harmful effects of a CCT history on relationship satisfaction for both survivors and their partners.

Introduction: Dementia is associated with several behavioral changes globally referred to as (BPSD) of which many are recognized to be the expression of unmet needs triggered by environmental factors. BPSD are an extreme source of stress for family care partners and health care providers alike and can be the reason why people living with dementia (PLWD) are placed in long-term care homes (LTCH). The overall goal of this project was to examine whether a virtual environment that includes a virtual LTCH resident with dementia in a lifelike situation could be useful and usable for health care providers and care partners to identify potential triggers to BPSDs while being engaged emotionally with the scenario.
