Neurodynamic testing of the suprascapular nerve: An observational cadaveric study.

Clin Biomech (Bristol)

January 2025

Chaire de recherche en Anatomie fonctionelle, Department of Anatomy, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, 3351 Boulevard des Forges C.P. 500, Trois-Rivières, Québec G8Z 4M3, Canada.

Background: Suprascapular neurodynamic tests are used to clinically test for suprascapular nerve mechanosensitivity. Various tests described in the literature are proposed to induce suprascapular nerve mechanical strain but their potential effects on nerve strain have not been established.

Methods: This observational cadaveric study used biomechanical measurements to evaluate and compare the strain undergone by the suprascapular nerve during five different neurodynamic positions: (1) Cervical contralateral rotation and scapular retraction; (2) Cervical contralateral sidebending + shoulder girdle depression; (3) Shoulder girdle depression, retraction, posterior tilt and downward rotation; (4) Position 3 + contralateral cervical sidebending; and (5) Scapular protraction + Cervical contralateral sidebending (protraction sidebending test).

This is the first report on a unique hybrid molecule made of estradiol and testosterone (TS). This distinctive hybrid molecule (1) was designed to interact with both the estrogen receptor (ER) and the androgen receptor (AR) found in hormone-dependent female and male cancer cells, and was synthesized using ethynylestradiol (17EE) as the estrogenic component and 7α-(4-azido-but-2-enyl)-4-androsten-17β-ol-3-one as the androgenic counterpart in a seven-step reaction with ∼ 26 % overall yield. We reasoned that the dual receptor binding ability could allow 1 to act as an antihormone.

Article Synopsis
  • - This review targets researchers looking into air pollution control, specifically on recent advancements in removing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using plasma-catalysis technology, which enhances degradation and minimizes by-products.
  • - Two configurations for plasma-catalysis are highlighted: "post plasma catalysis configuration" (PPC), where the catalyst is downstream from the plasma, and "in plasma catalysis configuration" (IPC), where the catalyst is in direct contact with the plasma discharge.
  • - The review also explores the synergy between plasma and catalysis, discussing how each affects the other, which could lead to improved air purification systems for industrial and indoor settings.

Purpose: To investigate if the recruitment of different regions within the lumbar extensor muscles in response to unexpected perturbations depends on trunk posture.

Methods: In a semi-seated posture, healthy adult participants experienced unexpected posterior-anterior trunk perturbations in three different postures: neutral, trunk flexion and left trunk rotation. High-density surface electromyography was used to identify the regional distribution of activation within the lumbar erector spinae muscles.

There are few data comparing outcomes after hallux amputation or partial first ray resection after diabetic foot ulcer (DFU). In a similar context, the choice to perform one of these two surgeries is attributable to clinician preference based on experience and characteristics of the patient and the DFU. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the more definitive surgery between hallux amputation and partial first ray resection.

In solar photocatalysis, light utilization and recycling of powder from reaction solution are the main obstructions that hinder the photocatalytic efficacy of any photocatalyst. In this respect, a floatable system is effective for efficient solar photocatalysis by light utilization. Due to the maximum solar light absorption property, floating nanocomposite photocatalyst is an appealing substitute for effective wastewater treatment.

The emotional response to olfactory stimuli implies the activation of a complex cascade of events triggered by structures lying in the limbic system. However, little is known about how this activation is projected up to cerebral cortex and how different cortical areas dynamically interact each other. In this study, we acquired EEG from human participants performing a passive odor-perception task with odorants conveying positive, neutral and negative valence.

The synthesis of two isomeric testosterone dimers and an androstenedione dimer is reported. The design takes advantage of an efficient transformation of testosterone leading to the synthesis of the key diene, 7α-(buta-1,3-dienyl)-4-androsten-17β-ol-3-one, through an elimination reaction. It was found that in some instances the same reaction led to partial epimerization of the 17β-hydroxyl group into the 17α-hydroxyl group.
