Clinically, it can be an either intra- or extraosseous painless swelling that can produce cortical expansion.

Changes in Metabolites During an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test in Early and Mid-Pregnancy: Findings from the PEARLS Randomized, Controlled Lifestyle Trial.

The oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is used to diagnose gestational and other types of diabetes. We examined metabolite changes during an OGTT, and how a comprehensive diet and physical activity intervention may influence these changes in a population of overweight/obese Hispanic pregnant women. Integration of changes in metabolites during an OGTT may help us gain preliminary insights into how glucose metabolism changes during pregnancy.

Adrenal incidentalomas are tumors located in the adrenal glands and found on imaging done for purposes not related to adrenal disease. In other cases adrenal mases can be radiologically found when an adrenal hormone secreting tumor is suspected, such as a pheochromocytoma or Cushing's diseases. Adrenal incidentalomas may be classified as functional or non-functional based on whether they produce hormones, such as aldosterone, cortisol, and androgens, or catecholamines.

Negative Cultures for Cerebrospinal Fluid Samples taken from the Myelomeningocele Sac on the Day of Repair.

Objective: Our goal was to evaluate the intraoperative laboratory analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) aspirated from the myelomeningocele (MMC) sac prior to the repair to determine if there was bacterial growth in the culture.

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of the CSF cultures of 45 MMC patients operated on during the years of 2002 to 2013 at the University Pediatric Hospital. Before repairing the defect, the sac area was cleaned and three milliliters of CSF were drawn and sent for analysis for red blood cells, white blood cells, glucose level, protein level, chloride level, gram stain and culture.

Objective: The Caribbean islands are regularly affected by hurricanes in a seasonal manner, but major (category 4 and 5) hurricanes are infrequent, and what happens in their aftermath is important for future planning.

Methods: We reviewed the surgical cases entered into the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) General Surgery Department database from January 1, 2016, through December 31, 2017. This database collects patient and procedural information from the surgical services of the UPR-affiliated hospitals.

Methods: Patients from a multiethnic, multicenter cohort, the Lupus in Minorities: Nature versus Nurture cohort, where SLE was defined using the 1982/1997 ACR criteria were included. Little is known about the contribution of virus-specific and cross-reacting antibodies (Abs) or the cellular immune response generated by a primary dengue (DENV) infection on the course of a secondary zika (ZIKV) infection in vivo. Here we show that the length of time between DENV/ZIKV infections has a qualitative impact on controlling early ZIKV replication. Depletion of DENV2-specific Abs in sera confirmed that those type-specific Abs do not contribute to ZIKV control.

Race and Racism as Structural Determinants for Emergency and Recovery Response in the Aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico.

To explore the role of race and racism in emergency response and recovery in the aftermath of hurricanes in Puerto Rico (PR). Sixteen semistructured qualitative interviews were conducted between March and April 2018 with community members who had an active role in the process of response and relief efforts. Among participants, eight were from PR, and eight were of Puerto Rican descent living in the continental United States.
