Pathogenic bacteria trigger complex molecular interactions in hosts that are characterized mainly by an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) as well as an inflammation-associated response. To counteract oxidative damage, cells respond through protective mechanisms to promote resistance and avoid tissue damage and infection; among these cellular mechanisms the activation or inhibition of the nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is frequently observed. The transcription factor Nrf2 is considered the regulator of several hundred cytoprotective and antioxidant genes.

Introduction Malocclusion, a prevalent oral health concern, significantly impacts both functional abilities and psychosocial well-being. The Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI) is widely used to assess malocclusion severity and orthodontic treatment needs. This study aims to evaluate the prevalence of orthodontic treatment needs based on the DAI in a Mexican population, considering factors such as gender, oral hygiene, and age range.

Two-dimensional (2D) metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been extensively utilized across various research areas. However, the application of 2D MOF-based membranes for the removal of heavy metal ions remains largely unexplored, despite their potential as suitable candidates due to their inherent porosity. In this study, we employed molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate the capacity of a typical 2D MOF, Cu-THQ, for the separation of heavy metal ions, including Cd²⁺, Cu²⁺, Hg²⁺, and Pb²⁺.

Cadmium (Cd) is among the top seven most hazardous environmental contaminants. Minimal risk levels for daily exposure have been established, such as no observable adverse effect level (NOAEL) and lowest observable adverse effect level (LOAEL). Chronic exposure to Cd, at both NOAEL and LOAEL doses, causes toxicity in diverse tissues.

Brain reserve is an important concept to understand the variability of damage associated with brain-related diseases and includes the adaptation of cognitive processes to preserve brain function. A good cognitive reserve might delay the onset of clinical manifestations of neurodegenerative diseases as well as hepatic encephalopathy, improving the quality of life in patients with chronic liver diseases. By stimulating activities and maintaining overall health, individuals may be able to enhance their brain's resilience to age-related changes and pathology.

Charles Fernyhough's dialogical model of psychological functions offers a vision of theory of mind that considers the social dimension and the importance of language, especially inner and private speech, for a person's ability to represent and manipulate multiple perspectives, and its connection to executive function.
Objective: There is little direct research on Fernyhough's model.

Introduction: CD38 and BCMA are proteins expressed at high levels in multiple myeloma cells, so they are targets for the development of mono- or multispecific antibodies.
Areas Covered: Patent US20240132615 describes anti-CD3/BCMA/CD38 trispecific antibodies and a method of treating relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma pharmaceutically. and preclinical results show that anti-CD3/BCMA/CD38 trispecific antibodies have stronger binding affinity and killing potency compared to daratumumab, isatuximab, and teclistamab antibodies.

Fisetin and Luteolin are important flavonoids produced in plants and known for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and analgesic properties. They are also good candidates for different types of biosensors. The model used to describe the fluorescence (FL) emission of these flavonoids involves an excited-state intermolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) process that causes a change in the molecule configuration and a corresponding decrease in the emission energy.

Acetaldehyde is a volatile organic compound that can cause damage at the cellular and genomic levels. The monitoring of acetaldehyde gas at low concentrations requires fast-response and low-cost sensors. Herein, we propose the design of an acetaldehyde gas sensor based on a low-cost Microelectromechanical System (MEMS) process.

Cadmium (Cd) is a global pollutant, and its accumulation in the liver causes oxidative stress, inflammation, insulin resistance (IR), and metabolic complications. This study investigated whether curcumin treatment could alleviate hepatic IR in Wistar rats exposed to sub-chronic cadmium and explored the underlying molecular pathways. Male Wistar rats were divided into a control group (standard normocaloric diet + cadmium-free water) and a cadmium group (standard normocaloric diet + drinking water with 32.

Glass ionomer cements (GICs) are the common materials employed in pediatric dentistry because of their specific applications in class I restorations and atraumatic restoration treatments (ART) of deciduous teeth in populations at high risk of caries. Studies show a limited clinical durability of these materials. Attempts have thus been made to incorporate nanoparticles (NPs) into the glass ionomer for improving resistance and make it like the tooth structure.

Purpose: Fixed restorations and dental enamel have different structures that produce different wear on opposing teeth, resulting in clinical problems. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the type of restoration that causes less wear on naturally opposing teeth to make recommendations. The objective of this study was to systematically analyze the evidence from observational studies and clinical trials on enamel wear in different ceramic restorations.

Neurological disorders (NDs) are diseases of the central and peripheral nervous systems that affect more than one billion people worldwide. The risk of developing an ND increases with age due to the vulnerability of the different organs and systems to genetic, environmental, and social changes that consequently cause motor and cognitive deficits that disable the person from their daily activities and individual and social productivity. Intrinsic factors (genetic factors, age, gender) and extrinsic factors (addictions, infections, or lifestyle) favor the persistence of systemic inflammatory processes that contribute to the evolution of NDs.

The aim of this investigation was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the necessity of a white diet during or following a bleaching procedure. This systematic review and meta-analysis followed the PRISMA guidelines meticulously. The research question was: Is a white diet necessary during and/or after a bleaching treatment? In vitro studies or clinical trials reporting the color change in bleached enamel after the use of a free-staining diet were considered for full-text review.

Mucogingival surgery is a procedure for the treatment of gingival recession, which is a shift of marginal gingival tissue to the cementoenamel junction (CEJ), exposing the surface of the root teeth. One treatment for gingival recession is the Langer and Langer bilaminar technique, which involves the use of the fascia lata (FL) membrane. This membrane is harvested from the aponeurosis of the external muscles.
