Schmallenberg virus (SBV), a novel Orthobunyavirus, emerged in European domestic ruminants in 2011 causing abortions and malformations in newborns and none or mild clinical symptoms in adult animals. Here, a total of 364 bovine, ovine and caprine serum samples were collected in Kosovo and Albania between May 2014 and August 2016 and analyzed for the presence of anti‑SBV antibodies. Sera were tested using an enzyme‑linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and 48 ELISA‑positive samples were subsequently analyzed by serum neutralization test (SNT).

The septal organs are islands or patches of sensory epithelium, located in the ventral parts of the nasal septum and innervated by the olfactory nerve. The septal island in dromedaries () was unusually located in the rostro-dorsal part of the nasal septum, where the ethmoidal branch of the trigeminal nerve provides innervation to the island mucosa. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to reveal the microscopic and ultrastructure of this island and to explain the probable functions.

Background And Aim: In patients undergoing diagnostic coronary angiography (CA) and percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), the benefits associated with radial access compared with the femoral access approach remain controversial. The aim of this meta-analysis was to compare the short-term evidence-based clinical outcome of the two approaches.
Methods: The PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and ClinicalTrials.

Background: This case study describes research, which is located in Turkey, where more than 750,000 Syrian refugees reside autonomously in Istanbul. The research developed and pilot tested a novel model for helping urban refugee families with limited to no access to evidence-based mental health services, by delivering a transdiagnostic family intervention for common mental disorders in health and non-health sector settings using a task-sharing approach. This case study addresses the following question: What challenges were encountered in developing and piloting a low intensity trans-diagnostic family support intervention in a humanitarian emergency setting?
Discussion: The rapidly growing scale of humanitarian crises requires new response capabilities geared towards addressing populations with prolonged high vulnerability to mental health consequences and limited to no access to mental health, health, and social resources.

In this study, we report an abortion outbreak in a ruminant herd consisting of goats, sheep, and cows, with scenarios in two consecutive years. In early 2017, abortions occurred in ∼70% of goats and 66% tested positive for () and 40% of goats were positive for (). In February 2018, the same herd reported an abortion rate of 75%, with 55% positive for , 36% for , and 22% for .

Background: The Western Balkans are an important hotspot of caddisfly diversity in Europe, with several microscale endemics, many of which were discovered during the recent years. The genus Wallengren, 1891 likely originated and diversified in Europe, with the Balkan Peninsula being one of the most important diversity hotspots.
New Information: In this paper, we describe the new species sp.

Objectives: Anatomy of circulus arteriosus cerebri (CAC) shows wide variation in different individuals, and population groups and has vital clinical significance in causation and presentation of clinical disease. The literature revealed a connection between the variations of CAC and cerebrovascular disease, ischemia, stroke, aneurysms, and atherosclerosis.
Material And Methods: In this study, 513 patients without clinical manifestation in regard to cerebrovascular diseases, who are considered healthy on CAC anatomy, are included.

Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus (CCHFV) is a geographically widespread tick-borne arbovirus that has been recognized by the WHO as an emerging pathogen needing urgent attention to ensure preparedness for potential outbreaks. Therefore, availability of accurate diagnostic tools for identification of acute cases is necessary. A panel comprising 121 sequential serum samples collected during acute, convalescent and subsided phase of PCR-proven CCHFV infection from 16 Kosovar patients was used to assess sensitivity.

Evidence from several unrelated animal models and some studies conducted in humans, points to the immunomodulatory effects of androgens on various components of the immune system, especially on allergic disorders. This study evaluated the serum concentrations of sex hormones in women with allergy. For this purpose, blood samples were obtained from 78 participants in order to detect serum IgE concentrations, total testosterone, estradiol, progesterone, and DHEA-S.

Background: Colloid cysts account for approximately 1% of all intracranial tumors and are the most common type of the neuroepithelial cysts. They are benign, that most commonly occur in the third ventricle near the Monro foramen. Sometimes they have no specific sings and symptoms and may be confused and misdiagnosed with other pathology of nervous systems, but sometimes they may produce acute hydrocephalus, brain herniation, and lead to death.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the measures brought for prevention of infections are associated with considerable psychosocial and psychological morbidity in the general population. Providing continuous mental health services during the pandemics is a challenge worldwide, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This paper reports on the strategies and activities taken to protect public mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic in Kosovo.

Canine vector-borne pathogens are a group of widespread microorganisms and nematodes transmitted by arthropods that do not only impact dog health but may also pose a health risk to humans as many of them are zoonotic. As no data exist on the presence of canine vector-borne pathogens in Kosovo, we here present a first study on the seroprevalence of selected vector-borne pathogens, the dog heartworm Dirofilaria immitis and the bacteria Anaplasma spp., Ehrlichia spp.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant worldwide social and life-threatening epidemiological problem. Because this disease requires multiple drug treatment and prolonged therapy for several months, followed by a high probability of adverse effects (AEs), we assessed AE monitoring for anti-TB drugs in the Health Care System of Kosova.
Methods: This survey was a cross-sectional analysis performed at the primary, secondary and tertiary health care levels in Kosova.

Cancer is a genomic disease associated with accumulation of genetic damage. Cancer-initiating events, such as chromosome breakage, loss and rearrangement, can be used as biomarkers to evaluate individual cancer risk. Cytokinesis-block micronucleus cytome (CBMN - Cyt) assay parameters in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) of thirty four patients diagnosed with high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) and fifteen healthy women were measured.

Finding novel strategies for surface modification is of great interest in electrochemistry and material sciences. In this study, we present a strategy for modification of a gold electrode through covalent attachment of triazole (TA) groups. Triazole groups were electrochemically grafted at the surface of the electrode by a reduction of in situ generated triazolediazonium cations.
