Background: The association between human papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical cancer is well established, and cervical cancer can be prevented through HPV vaccination. Little has been reported on the association between HPV and breast carcinoma (BC) or oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in Africa. It is possible that use of appropriate HPV vaccines against genotypes responsible for these cancers may also prevent their development.

The death of a young person is most often a tragic occurrence, more so when this death was unexpected. Forensic pathologists are mandated to investigate such deaths, and there has been a strong move internationally towards genetic testing as an additional investigative tool. The aim of our article is to bring the advantage of implementing the so-called molecular autopsy in a local setting to the attention of medical practitioners.

Background And Aims: The gold standard for measuring LDL-C is impractical for routine use while direct measurements have numerous shortcomings. This study investigated the correlation of predictive equations with currently used enzymatic assays in populations where these have historically proven unreliable to determine whether equations may be used interchangeably. No reference measure was available for comparison in this study.

Purpose Of Review: The reference method for low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) quantitation is β-quantification, a technically demanding method that is not convenient for routine use. Indirect calculation methods to estimate LDL-C, including the Friedewald equation, have been used since 1972. This calculation has several recognized limitations, especially inaccurate results for triglycerides (TG) >4.

In this study, a set of dietary polyphenols was comprehensively studied for the selective identification of the potential inhibitors/modulators for galectin-1. Galectin-1 is a potent prognostic indicator of tumor progression and a highly regarded therapeutic target for various pathological conditions. This indicator is composed of a highly conserved carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) that accounts for the binding affinity of β-galactosides.

Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly occurring cancer with very less treatment options in case surgery fails to cure the disease. The emergence of drug resistant colon cancer poses a new threat and calls for better drugs for treatment of colon cancer patients. Novel substituted benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-5-(pyridin-2-yl) penta-1,4-dien-3-one trihybrid molecules were synthesized following appropriate synthetic route.

Objectives: Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) estimation is critical for risk classification, prevention and treatment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Predictive equations and direct LDL-C are used. We investigated the comparability between the Martin/Hopkins, Sampson, Friedewald and eight other predictive equations on two analysers, to determine whether the equation or analyser influences predicted LDL-C result.

Worldwide coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak is still threatening global health since its outbreak first reported in the late 2019. The causative novel virus has been designated as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Although COVID-19 emergent with significant mortality, there is no availability of definite treatment measures.

In the current study, a structure-based virtual screening paradigm was used to screen a small molecular database against the Non-structural protein 15 (Nsp15) endoribonuclease of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The SARS-CoV-2 is the causative agent of the recent outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) which left the entire world locked down inside the home. A multi-step molecular docking study was performed against antiviral specific compounds (~8722) collected from the Asinex antiviral database.

Nipah virus (NiV) infections are highly contagious and can cause severe febrile encephalitis. An outbreak of NiV infection has reported high mortality rates in Southeast Asian countries including Bangladesh, East Timor, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Madagascar, Philippines, Thailand and India. Considering the high risk for an epidemic outbreak, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared NiV as an emerging priority pathogen.

This research is a recent effort to explore some new heterocyclic compounds as novel and potential nonstructural protein-16-nonstructural protein-10 (Nsp16-Nsp10) inhibitors for the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) inhibition. The SARS-CoV-2 is causative agent of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. A set of 58 molecules belongs to the naphthyridine and quinoline derivatives have been recently synthesized and considered for structure-based virtual screening against Nsp16-Nsp10.

In the current study, the Asinex and ChEBI databases were virtually screened for the identification of potential Lyn protein inhibitors. Therefore, a multi-steps molecular docking study was carried out using the VSW utility tool embedded in Maestro user interface of the Schrödinger suite. On initial screening, molecules having a higher XP-docking score and binding free energy compared to Staurosporin were considered for further assessment.

The protein-protein interactions (PPIs) in the biological systems are important to maintain a number of cellular processes. Several disorders including cancer may be developed due to dysfunction in the assembly of PPI networks. Hence, targeting intracellular PPIs can be considered as a crucial drug target for cancer therapy.

Background: Molar pregnancy is a complication characterised by abnormal benign or malignant proliferation of trophoblastic cells resulting in markedly elevated β-hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin) levels, an established marker for the presence of the disease. Owing to the structural homology between β-hCG and TSH, the raised β-hCG can result in secondary hyperthyroidism.
Methods: Two patients aged 20 (Case 1) and 31 years (Case 2) presented to the emergency department within a few days of each other complaining of vaginal bleeding associated with abdominal pain.

In the present study, pharmacoinformatics paradigms include receptor-based de novo design, virtual screening through molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation are implemented to identify novel and promising HIV-1 integrase inhibitors. The de novodrug/ligand/molecule design is a powerful and effective approach to design a large number of novel and structurally diverse compounds with the required pharmacological profiles. A crystal structure of HIV-1 integrase bound with standard inhibitor BI-224436 is used and a set of 80,000 compounds through the de novo approach in LigBuilder is designed.

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and considered as serious public health concern worldwide which kills approximately five thousand people every day. Therefore, TB drug development efforts are in gigantic need for identification of new potential chemical agents to eradicate TB from the society. The bacterial DNA gyrase B (GyrB) protein as an experimentally widely accepted effective drug target for the development of TB chemotherapeutics.

Drug resistance is an unsolved and major concern in the bacterial infection. Continuous development of drug-resistance to the antibiotics exponentially rises the danger of bacterial infections. Chemical components from the plants are becoming a major resource of potentially effective therapeutic chemical agents for the wide range of diseases including bacterial infections.
