Background: Given the unprecedented aging of the population and the increased focus on overall well-being in older age, investigating the determining factors of sexual well-being in older adults becomes essential as it offers insights into promoting healthy aging and overall quality of life.
Aim: By applying the biopsychosocial model of sexuality in older age, we aimed to identify the role of biomedical and psychosocial factors in predicting sexual well-being in partnered older adults (≥55 years old).
Methods: A total of 111 participants (mean [SD], 63.

Mometasone furoate (MF) is a synthetic glucocorticoid used clinically to treat specific inflammatory disorders including superior and inferior respiratory tract. Due to its poor bioavailability we further investigated whether nanoparticles (NPs) made of zein protein may constitute a safe and effective choice to incorporate MF. Thus, in this work, we loaded MF into zein NPs aiming to evaluate possible advantages that could result from oral delivery and extend the range of MF application such as inflammatory gut diseases.

Although the importance of older citizens' civic engagement has been highlighted in research and policy, the topic remains underexplored. In this study, we discuss older Portuguese citizens' motivations for civic engagement. The research is based on interviews with eighteen participants aged over 60, who are retired but active in civic organisations, in which they hold or have held leadership positions.

Obesity associates with macrophage accumulation in adipose tissue where these infiltrating cells interact with adipocytes and contribute to the systemic chronic metabolic inflammation present in immunometabolic diseases. Tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and phenylethanolamine N-methyltransferase (PNMT) are two of the main enzymes of catecholamines (CA) synthesis. Adipocytes and macrophages produce, secrete and respond to CA, but the regulation of their synthesis in the interplay between immune and metabolic systems remains unknown.

Erythrocyte-based drug delivery systems have been investigated for their biocompatibility, long circulation time, and capability to transport cargo all around the body, thus presenting enormous potential in medical applications. In this study, we investigated hybrid nanoparticles consisting of nano-sized autologous or allogeneic red blood cell (RBC) membranes encapsulating porous silicon nanoparticles (PSi NPs). These NPs were functionalized with a model cancer antigen TRP2, which was either expressed on the surface of the RBCs by a cell membrane-mimicking copolymer polydimethylsiloxane--poly-2-methyl-2-oxazoline, or attached on the PSi NPs, thus hidden within the encapsulation.

The comorbidity between discrete clinical diagnosis occurs in higher levels than prevalence rates, indicating that mental disorders are systematically overcategorized. Dimensional models - as the Internalizing-Externalizing Spectrum - claim for a common latent structure of psychopathology. The current meta-analysis aims to evaluate whether the externalizing and internalizing latent factors of the psychopathological spectrum display common and distinctive neurobiological substrates, as unveiled by Error-Related Negativity (ERN) modulation.
