Therapeutic use of serious games in mental health: scoping review.

BJPsych Open

February 2022

Cornwall Intellectual Disability Equitable Research, University of Plymouth Medical School, UK; and Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, UK.

Background: There has been an increase in the development and application of serious games to support management of mental ill health, but their full impact is unclear.

Aims: Evaluation of the current evidence of acceptability and effectiveness of serious games in improving mental health disorders.

Method: A PRISMA-guided scoping review was conducted, using a predefined criteria and a relevant word combination on three databases: EMBASE, Medline and PsycINFO.

Background: Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is common among people with intellectual disability. Diagnosing ADHD in this clinically and cognitively complex and diverse group is difficult, given the overlapping psychiatric and behavioural presentations. Underdiagnoses and misdiagnoses leading to irrational polypharmacy and worse health and social outcomes are common.

Background: Oro-mucosal midazolam maleate (OMM) with suitable training to family and carers is being increasingly recognized as the treatment of choice to mitigate the development of status epilepticus in non-hospital community settings. There are no studies to describe the use, effectiveness, and suitable dosing of OMM in adults with epilepsy in community settings.

Purpose: To describe the use, effectiveness, and dosing of OMM in the emergency treatment of epileptic seizures in community settings.

Oxygen for seizures, more questions than answers: A scoping review.

Acta Neurol Scand

December 2021

Cornwall Intellectual Disability Epilepsy Research (CIDER), University of Plymouth Medical School, Truro, UK.

Background: Ictal hypoxaemia is a feature seen in epileptic seizures, characterized by low oxygen saturations, increasing seizure prolongation risk and possibly contributing to sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). High flow oxygen is recommended in the management of seizures by UK's National Institute of Health and Care excellence (NICE); however, the evidence supporting this recommendation is unclear.

Aims: To identify the efficacy of oxygen in the seizure treatment.

Background: The effectiveness of adjunctive perampanel has not been systematically assessed in seizure types other than its approved indications of focal seizures and primary generalised tonic-clonic seizures (PGTCS) in idiopathic generalised epilepsies (IGEs).

Objective: We aimed to identify and review available evidence on outcomes with perampanel in generalised seizures and epilepsies to examine its potential as a broad-spectrum anti-seizure medication.

Methods: Bibliographic databases of publications, clinical trials, and conference abstracts were searched up to August 2020 to identify studies reporting seizure or safety outcomes in patients of any age, with any type of epilepsy-associated generalised seizures treated with perampanel.

. There is emerging evidence that network/computer analysis of epileptiform discharge free electroencephalograms (EEGs) can be used to detect epilepsy, improve diagnosis and resource use. Such methods are automated and can be performed on shorter recordings of EEG.

We report final analysis outcomes from the phase 3 HELIOS study (NCT01611090). Patients with relapsed/refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma without deletion 17p ( = 578) were randomized 1:1 to 420 mg daily ibrutinib or placebo plus ≤6 cycles of bendamustine plus rituximab (BR), followed by ibrutinib or placebo alone. Median follow-up was 63.

We present a long-term follow-up of the UK chlorambucil, mitoxantrone and dexamethasone (CMD) versus fludarabine, mitoxantrone and dexamethasone (FMD) for untreated advanced, symptomatic follicular lymphoma (FL). This trial was the first to prospectively assess molecular response and the impact on outcomes for 400 patients. The median progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) for CMD were 3·6 and 14·6 years vs.

Patients with relapsed or refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) who are unfit for or relapsed postautologous stem-cell transplantation have poor outcomes. Historically, mTORC1 inhibitors have produced responses in approximately 30% of patients in this setting. mTORC1 inhibitor efficacy may be limited by resistance mechanisms including AKT activation by mTORC2.
