Objectives: The primary objective of this prospective review was to compare quality of life between patients undergoing endoscopic and open skull base approaches.
Study Type And Design: Prospective Review.
Methods: Five centers recruited consecutive patients treated surgically for skull base neoplasms between 2012 to 2018.
Aim: Opioid use disorder (OUD) is the problematic use of licit or illicit opioids. Thus far, the literature on biological sex differences in accessing treatment is scarce. Hence, we hypothesize that biological sex has a moderating effect on OUD treatment accessibility.

We describe an atypical presentation of an isolated right ventricular metastasis of HCC following successful treatment with no evidence of primary disease recurrence. The case presented as gradually worsening hypertension and erythrocytosis in the setting of normal surveillance scans and alpha-fetoprotein levels.

The aim of this study was to examine whether previous nasal surgery was associated with hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HNS) therapy outcomes.
Study Design: Retrospective observational cohort study was performed utilizing the multicenter international HNS registry (ADHERE).

The emergence of poses a significant global health threat due to its high mortality rates and multidrug resistance. The development of new antifungal drugs is essential to effectively combat this pathogen. Antimicrobial peptides, such as Dermaseptin, have demonstrated potent anti- activity.

Patients and clinicians in the cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) are often tasked with making high-stakes decisions about aggressive or life- sustaining therapies. Shared decision-making (SDM), a collaborative process where patients and clinicians work together to make medical decisions that are aligned with a patient's goals and values, is therefore highly relevant in the CICU, especially in the context of palliative or end-of-life decisions. Despite its importance, there are barriers to optimal integration and implementation of SDM.

Objective: Benign phonotraumatic lesions of the vocal folds (BVFLs) are typically seen in younger female patients with high vocal loads. Hemorrhagic polyps (HPs) do not fit the classic paradigm of most BVFLs, as they tend to occur in an older population, have a male predominance, and report to result from a vocal accident. We present one of the largest cohorts of HPs, to reexamine their etiology and clinical features.

Background: This study evaluates the clinical trends, risk factors, and impact of waitlist blood transfusion on outcomes following isolated heart transplantation.
Methods: The UNOS registry was queried to identify adult recipients from January 1, 2014, to June 30, 2022. The recipients were stratified into two groups depending on whether they received a blood transfusion while on the waitlist.
Background: Preeclampsia is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and death. Primary care or cardiology follow-up, in complement to routine postpartum obstetric care, provides an essential opportunity to address cardiovascular risk. Prior studies investigating racial differences in the recommended postpartum follow-up have incompletely assessed the influence of social factors.

, a recent addition to the species, poses a significant threat with its association to numerous hospital outbreaks globally, particularly affecting immunocompromised individuals. Given its resistance to existing antifungal therapies, there is a pressing need for innovative treatments. In this study, novel triazole bridged quinoline derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for their antifungal activity against .

Purpose: To determine whether scapular morphology could predict isolated supraspinatus tendon tear propagation after exercise therapy. We hypothesised that a larger critical shoulder angle (CSA) and type III acromial morphology predict a positive change in tear size.
Methods: Fifty-nine individuals aged 40-70 years with isolated symptomatic high-grade partial or full-thickness supraspinatus tendon tears were included.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between early postpartum weight change and (1) hospital readmission and (2) 2-week blood pressure trajectory.
Methods And Results: This retrospective study cohort included 1365 individuals with a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy enrolled in a postpartum hypertension remote monitoring program. Exposure was percentage weight change from delivery to first weight recorded within 10 days postpartum.

Objective: There is limited data on the impact of clinical-demographic factors on survival outcomes among veterans with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). This study was undertaken to evaluate the impact of race and other factors on overall survival (OS) in a population of veterans with HNSCC treated with curative intent.
Methods: Demographic and clinical data were collected on veterans with HNSCC treated with curative intent at our institution between 1999 and 2021.
Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have uncommon associations with cardiotoxicity, yet these cardiotoxic effects are associated with high mortality. An accurate assessment of risk for cardiotoxicity is essential for clinical decision-making, but data from randomized controlled trials often differ from real-world observational studies.
Methods And Results: A systematic search of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Scopus was performed, including phase II and III randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies (OSs) reporting myocarditis or pericardial disease, myocardial infarction, or stroke with an immunotherapy.
Objectives: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of a rapid host-protein test for differentiating bacterial from viral infections in patients who presented to the emergency department (ED) or urgent care center (UCC).
Methods: This was a prospective multicenter, blinded study. MeMed BV (MMBV), a test based on tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL), interferon gamma-inducible protein-10 (IP-10), and C-reactive protein (CRP), was measured using a rapid measurement platform.
Objective: In patients undergoing hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HGNS), we examined the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) to understand how baseline sleep onset insomnia (SOI), sleep maintenance insomnia (SMI), and early morning awakening (EMA) affected postsurgical outcomes.
Study Design: Observational.
Setting: Multicenter registry.
Background: Infective endocarditis represents a life-threatening disease with high mortality rates. A fraction of patients receives exclusively conservative antibiotic treatment due to their comorbidities and high operative risk, despite fulfilling criteria for surgical therapy. The aim of the present study is to compare outcomes in patients with infective endocarditis and indication for surgical therapy in those who underwent or did not undergo valve surgery.

Warm Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (WAHA) is the most common form of autoimmune hemolysis and there is a growing body of evidence of an association between SARS-CoV-2 infection, WAHA and a hyperinflammatory state, including hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis/macrophage activation syndrome. However, there is no literature to date of WAHA or hyperinflammatory state following administration of anti-SARS-CoV-2 monoclonal antibody treatment. This report documents a case of a patient with history of WAHA who developed brisk hemolysis and a hyperinflammatory state consistent with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis/macrophage activation syndrome after COVID-19 infection and treatment with an anti-SARS-CoV-2 monoclonal antibody.

However, it may be difficult for the novice surgeon to interpret 2-dimensional (2D) illustrations into 3D surgeries. The objective of this study is to create operable models that demonstrate the progression of surgery in 3D and allow for mastering the final steps of the operation first.

Synovial metastasis is a rare condition with only a few cases reported in the literature. Synovial metastasis to the finger or toe joint is different from acrometastasis, which is defined as bone metastasis located distal to the elbow and knee. The most common site of synovial metastasis is the knee joint.
