Background: The Poincaré plot method can be used for both qualitative and quantitative assessment of self-similarity in usually periodic functions, hence the idea of applying it to the study of homeostasis of living organisms. From the analysis of numerous scientific data, it can be concluded that hand functionality can be correlated with the state of the human body as a biological system exposed to various forms of ontogenetic stress.

Methods: We used the Poincaré plot method to analyze the variability of hand grip strength (HGS), as an entropic biomarker of aging, during 60 repetitive tests of the dominant and nondominant hand, in young and older healthy subjects.

The overuse of synthetic pesticide, a consequence of the rush to increase crop production, led to tremendous adverse effects, as they constitute a major pollutant for both soils and water, with a high toxicity towards humans and animals and, at the same time, led to development of pest resistance. In the last period, the researches were directed towards finding new solutions with a lower toxicity, less damaging behaviour towards the environment, and a better specificity of action. In this context, the use of essential oils, a complex and unique mixture of compounds, can be considered for the next-generation pesticides.

A series of N-benzoylated mononuclear copper(II) complexes of the type [Cu(L)Cl] (1-6), where L= ethyl 4-benzoyl-5-methyl-7-aryl-4,7-dihydrotetrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-6-carboxylate, L= ethyl 4-(4-nitrobenzoyl)-5-methyl-7-aryl-4,7-dihydrotetrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-6-carboxylate, L = ethyl 4-benzoyl-5-methyl-7-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4,7-dihydrotetrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-6-carboxylate, L = ethyl 4-(4-nitrobenzoyl)-5-methyl-7-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4,7-dihydrotetrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-6-carboxylate, L = ethyl 4-benzoyl-5-methyl-7-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,7-dihydrotetrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-6-carboxylate and L = ethyl 4-(4-nitrobenzoyl)-5-methyl-7-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,7-dihydrotetrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-6-carboxylate have been synthesized and characterized by spectral methods. Electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of complexes show four lines, characteristic of square planar geometry. The binding studies of the complexes with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) revealed groove mode of binding, which were further supported by molecular docking studies.

The study analyses the significance of the plasmatic values of the OPN dosed to 91 people suffering from diastolic cardiac dysfunction with preserved ejection fraction, thus revealing significant growths of its level compared to the normal value. Despite being a clinical research, its conclusions are a breakthrough, differing from the results of other studies published in the relevant medical literature. We can make this assertion because this study analyses the clinical information given by the circulating values of the OPN, based on experimental models (animals), or on patients with congestive heart failure, which can be identified with the existence of a low systolic flow.

Faculty of Science, Physical Education and Informatics, University of Pitesti, Tg. Vale Street No 1, RO-110040 Pitesti, Arges, Romania. Electronic address:

The emission properties of norfloxacin, a quinolone antibiotic, in presence of salmon sperm DNA were studied at room temperature and in conditions of acid, alkaline and neutral pH. It was found that norfloxacin molecules are inserted between the DNA base pairs, as evidenced by the emission spectra features and the significant increases in relative viscosity of DNA by the addition of norfloxacin. The fluorescence quenching process was characterized by Stern-Volmer plots which display a positive deviation from the linearity.

Department of Medical Assistance and Kinetotherapy, Faculty of Sciences, University of Pitesti, Department of Neurosurgery, Emergency Hospital of Arges County, Pitesti, Romania; Research Center for Microscopic Morphology and Immunology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova, Romania;

Solitary extranevraxial plasmacytoma (SEP), as a clinical entity without signs of systemic myelomatosis, is extremely rare; it is difficult to find literature on the issue of patient management and proper course of action in the presence of associated pathology. The authors present a rare case of plasmacytoma of the skull vault associated with severe cardiac pathology, which made surgery extremely difficult and possible only through temporization of the interventions, as presented. We discuss our findings and opportunities for treatment in this case, which seemed unapproachable at presentation, in connection with the associated cardiac pathology.

The paper proposes that frameworks typical to metaphysics and art could be used in clinical treatment in somatic and psychiatric contexts to ensure improved care. The concept of the "body electric" of somatic patients which I introduced in previous work is developed further and paired with the "mind electric" of psychiatric patients. Both are defined as a patient's personally generated metaphysical possibility of being healthy-within-illness which is experientially actualized.

Variable or feature selection is one of the most important steps in model specification. Especially in the case of medical-decision making, the direct use of a medical database, without a previous analysis and preprocessing step, is often counterproductive. In this way, the variable selection represents the method of choosing the most relevant attributes from the database in order to build a robust learning models and, thus, to improve the performance of the models used in the decision process.

Changing Internal Representations of Self and Other: Philosophical Tools for the Attachment-Informed Psychotherapy with Perpetrators and Victims of Violence.

Philos Psychiatr Psychol

September 2017

Contact information: Department of Psychology and Communication Sciences, University of Pitesti, Str. Târgu din Vale 1, 110040 Pitesti, Romania;

Attachment research shows that the formation of unconscious, insecure representations of the self, the other, and the self-other relations is linked to perpetration and receipt of violence. Attachment-focused therapy aims to change these internal schemata to more secure, adaptive representations by therapeutic work addressed to senses, emotions, and behavior. The paper proposes a new approach to altering the self and other representations in offenders and victims: it involves intellectual reflection on self, will, action and responsibility informed by Augustine's views, facilitated by actual relational experience, and translated into a distinct self-soothing strategy.
