Statement Of Problem: The consequences of edentulism depend on its complexity and are far-reaching, but limited evidence regarding its association with neurologic health is available.
Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review was to establish the relationship between oral prosthetic rehabilitation and the regional increase in brain activity.
Material And Methods: This systematic review was registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (CRD42021262247), and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guideline was followed.

In low-resource settings, resilience to infectious disease outbreaks can be hindered by limited access to diagnostic tests. Here we report the results of double-blinded studies of the performance of paper-based diagnostic tests for the Zika and chikungunya viruses in a field setting in Latin America. The tests involved a cell-free expression system relying on isothermal amplification and toehold-switch reactions, a purpose-built portable reader and onboard software for computer vision-enabled image analysis.

Aim And Objective: This study aimed to determine whether the use of complete dentures has an influence on the respiratory capacity, assessed by the spirometry examination.
Materials And Methods: A systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis and registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (CRD42021255224). The PICO question (population/exposure/comparison/outcome) was "Does the use of complete dentures influence the respiratory capacity of a toothless subject?" A search strategy was adapted for the PubMed/MEDLINE, The Cochrane Library, OpenGrey, Lilacs, Scopus, and Embase databases.

Background: The mannose-binding lectin (MBL) plays an important role in innate immunity. Genetically determined variations in serum levels of MBL may influence the susceptibility and clinical outcome of dengue infection in early life.
Methods: We investigated the MBL2 gene polymorphisms and serum levels of MBL (total and functional) in children with asymptomatic (n=17) and symptomatic (n=29) primary dengue infections and age-matched uninfected children (n=84) enrolled in a birth cohort with dengue in Brazil.

Trichosporon yeasts are widely employed to produce lipids, lipases, and aspartic peptidases, but there are no previous studies on collagenase production. This work aimed to select the best collagenase producing Amazonian Trichosporon strains. Moreover, a 2-full factorial design (FFD) and a 2-central composite design combined with Response Surface Methodology were applied to optimize production and find the best conditions for hydrolysis of type I bovine collagen.

Statement Of Problem: Photodynamic therapy is widely used in dentistry, but limited evidence exists regarding its effectiveness in treating denture stomatitis. High resistance to antifungals has been reported, and photodynamic therapy could be an alternative treatment.
Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate whether photodynamic therapy is effective in reducing denture stomatitis.

The indigenous population has suffered from the impacts caused by Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Especially children, who live in a reality of extreme poverty, low level of education and precarious health services close to their communities. Health professionals must look closely at indigenous children so that they can help them deal with the impact that the pandemic has brought with it.

Objective: The objective of this systematic review with meta-analysis was to critically evaluate the available data on sensitivity and specificity of IHC compared with molecular tests in the detection of BRAF V600E mutation in ameloblastomas.
Materials And Methods: This systematic review was performed based on the PRISMA statement and registered in Prospero (CRD42021259117). PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases were searched for observational studies to answer the question "What is the diagnostic accuracy of immunohistochemistry compared with molecular tests for the diagnosis of BRAF V600E mutation in ameloblastomas?".

Objectives: Cardiac surgery is highly demanding and the ideal teaching method to reach competency is widely debated. Some studies have shown that surgical trainees can safely perform full operations with equivocal outcomes compared with their consultant colleagues while under supervision. We aimed to compare outcomes after cardiac surgery with supervised trainee involvement versus consultant-led procedures.

Mitral valve repair (MVr) restores leaflets coaptation while preserving the patient's own valve. The two main techniques are: (a) chordal replacement ("respect approach"), whereby artificial neochordae are used to resuspend prolapsed segments of the affected leaflet - and (b) leaflet resection ("resect approach"), whereby diseased leaflet segment is resected, and the remaining segments are sutured together. Both techniques of MVr are associated with better long-term results, fewer valve-related complications and lower mortality when compared with mitral valve replacement (MVR).

This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of low-level laser therapy in controlling postoperative pain in lower third molar extractions. A search was carried out in MEDLINE/PubMed, Web of Science and Cochrane Library (CENTRAL) databases, using the "low-level laser therapy", "photobiomodulation therapy", "impacted mandibular third molar", "mandibular third molar", "third molar extraction" descriptors and 2625 studies were found, including only randomized clinical trials published until July 2020, with no restrictions on language and country of study. Selected studies were submitted to initial screening based on the reading of titles, abstracts and full article, and duplicate studies were excluded.

Introduction: The objective of this study was to monitor the effects of chemomechanical preparation (CMP) performed with 6% sodium hypochlorite and calcium hydroxide-based intracanal medication (ICM) on the levels and diversity of bacteria, endotoxins (lipopolysaccharides [LPS]), and lipoteichoic acid (LTA) in root canals of teeth with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis.
Methods: Samples were collected from 10 teeth with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis before CMP (S1), after CMP (S2), and after ICM (S3). The levels of bacteria, LPS, and LTA were assessed by using checkerboard DNA-DNA hybridization, LAL Pyrogent 5000, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, respectively.

Aims: Liver fibrosis is the result of an exacerbated wound-healing response associated with chronic liver injury. Interleukin-22 (IL-22) plays a key role in liver disease, through either a protective or an adverse role, depending on the context. The relationship between IL-22 and its receptors IL-22R1 and IL-22BP (soluble inhibitor) in liver fibrosis is unknown.

This technical report describes a novel workflow for complete denture fabrication designed to abbreviate the necessary steps for dental prostheses delivery by using a 3-appointment protocol in which preliminary impressions are made in the first session together with the registration of maxillary lip support, occlusal plane, and reference lines for tooth arrangement. A trial denture is fabricated with conventional or computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing procedures and is evaluated in the second appointment for esthetics, the definitive impression, and the maxillomandibular relationship record to provide precise references for definitive denture fabrication.

Although SARS-CoV-2 surface contamination has been investigated in health care settings, little is known about the SARS-CoV-2 surface contamination in public urban areas, particularly in tropical countries. Here, we investigated the presence of SARS-CoV-2 on high-touch surfaces in a large city in Brazil, one of the most affected countries by the COVID-19 pandemic in the world. A total of 400 surface samples were collected in February 2021 in the City of Recife, Northeastern Brazil.
